Whole World or Not

I don't really understand what Pyro meant, but if all main content of your game is in one city and other ones just have sidequest, why not ditching the world map entirely and creating some sort of "train station" or something that brings you where you want?

Free Action Burst Battle System (FAB/BS Discussion)

From what I see, there's only one negative side of the system: the fact that all enemies attack at the same time. That gives battles a luck-based aspect that works against the "tactical" theme you're working on, since it prevents the player from reacting to circumstances. (The good old "enemies gang up on one character, kill him and there's nothing you can do about it" could happen, for example).

Still, this is closely related to the "action points" system, so I guess it's just part of the tradeoff...

(Maybe giving the player the option to not use some action points during his turn, in exchange for the possibility to interrupt the enemies' phase? Maybe at a ratio of 2 ability points for 1 interruption?)

And the sheer number of characters and skill in the video confirms what I said before: you'll have to be very careful in introducing them gradually to the player.

Free Action Burst Battle System (FAB/BS Discussion)

I've just thought of another thing that will make or break your game: gradually introducing the player to all those features.

If I were thrown in a fight with 10 characters, each of which with his skillset, with elements, buffs, debuffs, synergies and everything, I'd just close the game.

Maybe start with a fixed party to give the player an opportunity to get used to the peculiar "turn" system, then give him the other characters one at a time, so he'll be able to spend some time playing with every skillset.

There's actually this wonderful point in between those two where you can say the things you need to say without being too mean or too nice about it. It's called professionalism

I call it "meeting the minimum requirements to be a funcional member of any kind of group of people". I mean, it's not an epic feat. It's normal.

It should be.

Bottomline is - if you don't like a game, don't feel it can be improved in any way, it's just not your type of game - don't review it!

As long as the staff not only approve of reviews such as this one, but also don't take steps to combat this mentality, this site, as I've already said, will be crap for feedback and other communities will treat it with well-deserved contempt. "But we're professionals here and other sites are for noobs!" my ass.
"Do as I say, not as I do" at its finest. Unless your first quote applies exclusively to games, I guess.

Community Spotlight Interview: Rastek

This "interview" idea is very interesting.

My posts might seem harsh, but that's just the way I am - straight to the point.
Which is exactly what Craze could say about his review.

And I don't think "people" don't know how to express themselves without being offensive; it seems to me "they" actually go out of their way in their desire to be as offensive as possible. As to why they do it, well, if you have tact it means you are weak, doesn't it?

Sideview: Turnbased or ATB?

CTB for the win.

Actually, ATB has its potentials, but it requires some UI adjustments to be "good", imho.
The best example would be a style where the turn progression stops when a character can act, but you can let it go by pushing a button.
This way, you're able to let characters wait for the best moment to act (which is the one thing ATB can do and CTB doesn't) and you will be able to controll the flow of the battle.

RPGMaker2003 "wait" ATB style is just pointless: having a bar who stops every time a character can act is equivalent to a basic CTB system where you have to wait for no reason.

Still, I find it way better than "everything happens too fast for you to use any kind of strategy, and turn progression depends more on the length of battle animations than on the characters' AGI stat", FF9-like mode. God, how much I hated that game's battles.

Craze butts in, takes a dump on a still emerging genre because there's NO NUMBERZ TO CRUNCH and then tries to act surprised when people call him on his bullshit

No comments or reviews? Well, you can thank Craze and a few other guys who seem to never have anything positive to say and intimidate others from posting anything contrary to their opinions

I'd just like to point out you're kind of contradicting yourself here... I mean, either the community goes against Craze's "bullshit" or the community supports it. From the reactions to this review, I think it's more of the former.

You'd have to have pretty little confidence in you work to let yourself be "intimidated" by something like this.
