Stories in Games: A Counterpoint to Usual Thinking

What's interactive fiction about then? A Mind Forever Voyaging was fantastic if I recall correctly, and I'd say despite all the text it's still a game.

With modern games, however, I suppose I agree. Every now and then, however, I've come across some game stories which are surprisingly well written, almost always older ones. I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, for example.

New Article: Your Intro Sucks

Yajuu Tensei has a relatively limited intro. You see your O-COMP statistics (naturally only your life support is functional), are visited by an angel, your O-COMP restores itself, and then you're plopped right into the first dungeon. The bulk of the story is revealed once you manage to escape from this dungeon. You can also absorb some story info from the computer terminals scattered around, but they're used mostly for the puzzles. This dungeon has no encounters until the end.
