Nintendo 3DS MEGATHREAD
Well, DQ7 finally broke me. I slogged through for two hours, got to the first few battles, then said "oh right, this is why I hate RPGs."
The new Phoenix Wright DLC case is out, but I hear it's kind of mediocre. I might get it if I get bored enough this weekend.
Otherwise, I might pick up Fire Emblem again! I bought Birthright originally, intending to plow through all three campaigns in order, but I only made it about two missions deep before I decided I hated it. Not just due to story, but mechanically - so many of the units feel like hybrid classes that it feels like it's missing its edge. Then again, shame on me for picking up Babby's First Fire Emblem, I guess. Maybe I'll just plunk down for Conquest and hope for the best.
Spoiler alert: I am really hard to please!

This new one is probably my fifth favorite overall (after the original trilogy and Investigations 2), so it's definitely worth getting. Some of the animations probably seem stilted because they tried to recreate the older sprite poses 1:1, but most of the new ones (especially the culprit in the first case, holy crap) are properly zany.
Really, the main fault is that the new prosecutor is probably one of the worst characters in the franchise (borderline Trucy-tier), but the game still works because the setting itself is more of an antagonist this time.

I played a bit of 7D3! I enjoyed the crazy wackadoodle battle system, though I kind of wished they'd added more classes and character slots and opportunities for inter-class synergy rather than each oddball class prepping its own attacks/abilities. I'm not sure why I quit; something new and shiny must have come along, and battles did start to feel rather samey after a while. Maybe I'll pick it up again in the future.
Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!
I ran my first PlayStation 4 build today! It took a couple of hours to get all the SDKs and firmware and engine add-ons to sync up in harmony, but once that was settled, it was surprisingly easy to deploy, and seems to load quickly and run well. Only issue now is a hang related to a missing DLL (I think so, anyway), so I'll work on that tomorrow.

I'm just about to finish the newest Phoenix Wright (Spirits of Justice). Except for the fourth case (which was the fillerest of filler cases), it's been exceptional so far. I definitely recommend it.
After that, I'll start on Dragon Quest VII. I've heard less-than-good things about the port, and it apparently has a total length that borders on miserable, so I'm glad I just rented it!

Backing up your project
I have a Passport drive (basically a USB hard drive, 50 bucks on Amazon) that I back up to nightly through Windows backup, and I also do incremental backups to it with Windows 10's file history thing. I also back up projects to my Google drive once a week, just out of sheer paranoia.
I almost lost a game project to a failed hard drive a few years ago, so, now I'm extra cautious. It seems like a pretty common story that gets people to start making regular backups, so, if it hasn't happened to you yet - start now, because it will.

Voice Acting Microphone
I hired a gaggle of voice actors through Behind the Voice Actors (their recruitment tool is great for getting an entire ensemble at once, and the community behind it is pretty huge - I ended up with over 400 auditions in all). Many of them swear by a brand called "Blue Yeti," so that's probably a pretty good choice!
