HAPPY'S PROFILE
I'm a very big fan of music of japanese role playing games for it has influenced me throughout my life since my early childhood. The day I saw Nobuo on the stage in front of me I decided I too will become a composer one day. It has been 9 years since that day.
You can't find my works anywhere right now, but that will change very soon this year as I will be contributing several original tracks for RMN Music Pack 2.

@Happy: I thought it might not be in the guidelines because it was for a character-naming screen. I guess in my head I consider the character naming an out-of-game-world/external event, which could happen anywhere and any atmosphere. If the area or event of the character-naming is like you described, with all of the quirky people and what-not, then sweet. I just immediately considered this a separate type of instance, like a menu screen song or something. XD
Well, you are allowed to compose for any game instance! Be sure to remember that! You can go for any video game genre and situation. Only your approach, and the so called impression of the song has to be light-hearted.
I hope that people understand this!
Edit: Oh god, taking my song down. Always spotting nasty problems later.

I added a a WAV version for the entry, but also an OGG for people who might not want to load up all of that data.
I think this new version is finished compositionally. I gave it a decent mix and mastering, although I've never been great at that. I may tweak some EQ and compression as the month goes by to try and get it a little better.
Sounds really good! Really like the main melody instrument you begin the song off with and all the quirky turns it takes. Pretty spot on.
What comes to mix, it's pleasant and balanced in terms of volume, but I feel the soundscape is leaning heavily to the "front end."
It's hard to say how the song would work on a system like Nintendo DS for example, but listening to it on pc I have hard time focusing to the atmosphere or ambience as there is so much stereo separation. This is kind of hard to explain, though, but I feel that I cannot find elements in the middle, or place a foreground and background to the atmosphere when listening to it. Not sure how else to put it.
Edit: Perhaps to get a better idea you could compare your mix to commercial soundtracks out there! It's never a bad idea where it comes to mixing!

@Happy: Great atmosphere for a hero naming. Depending on the game, that could work really well. :) (Although, does your entry fit the guidelines? XD)
Thanks! Why do you think it doesn't fit the entry guidelines? :( Wouldn't you say it fits a light-hearted game as a character creation track? :( It may not be exaggerated take, but I'd argue it's still a light-hearted take as opposed to more serious type of music. :P

This is pretty nice! I'm not a fan of the samples used for the violin, though; I think they sound a little choppy in places, particularly when, um, transitioning between notes, whatever the word for that is. Still, nice work. I could also see it used as music for an intro cutscene, or a bedtime story.
Just a short comment about the title: my first thought when I read it was the song by The Who. Be aware of that if you plan to stick with that title.
Thanks for the feedback! I have to see about that cello, and if working its' "release"/ delay qualities could make it sound better.
What comes to the title, I wasn't aware of that. :P

Here's something to comment on: a hero naming theme!
I might still adjust the volume details slightly, but I'm done for tonight!

So far I've only composed 30 seconds, but I think I'm in the right direction. This is not mastered or finished, so no use in making a WAV version.

Yupp, I'd say you're pretty much in right direction with that! Curses, there goes my plans creating a track for castle town. Your track gives me an image of such, so I should go with something else next, probably!
I've been working on a comical "Oh the Poor Me" tragedy theme and a theme for creating a character in j-rpg. I'll post them once they're closer to being complete!

Short flute/piano duet...
Not sure if it sounds happy enough, and I can't write a decent harmony to save my life, but here it is-- http://rpgmaker.net/content/events/sos/files/air.wav
Sounds somewhat oriental to me! And it is more lighthearted than serious in my opinion at least. It may not be light-hearted in an exaggerated way, but it would fit as a more peaceful location track in a light-hearted game, sure!
All the instruments sound like they are panned very much to left, though. You could give it a try and spread them more horizontally, some a bit to right too, perhaps? It also sounds like both instruments are positioned on top of each other in the soundscape. You could try to see if you can vary their volume, delay or reverb qualities to see if you can bring in more ambience?
