“It’s hard to believe you can do good work for the little amount of money these days. We did ‘The Graduate’ and that film still sustains. It had a wonderful script that they spent three years on, and an exceptional director with an exceptional cast and crew, but it was a small movie, four walls and actors, and yet it was 100 days of shooting.”

Dumb Notes:
-don't write your characters around the story:
i.e. character sees dragon on mountain.
-write the story around your characters:
i.e. character sees dragon, seeing dragon changes character.
-let emotion drive the scene. i.e. Will they make it out of this alive?
-let anger drive the action. i.e. "Are you crazy? I'm not picking that up!"

PS1 Classic, anyone?
author=Darken
also RIP the ps3 PSN (closes July 2nd) I bought all that I think I might be missing from the ps1 library. Yeah I know I'm buying roms that'll go into jim ryan's pockets but I have so much invested in my ps3 that all of my ps1 save files are on there from since 2009, plus the Vita made it a Switch experience long before that was a thing. Between emulator files getting shuffled and a scrappy disc on ebay, PS3 became a decent option for me. Shame there's zero scalability towards PS4 and up.
yeah, I'm bummed about the store closing. I'm writing down everything I need to still get, lol. It kind of sucks, I always thought, since most of these games are digital now, it would take up less space and be easier to preserve and maintain and possibly be around for as long as...well... here we are I guess, lol. It just feels weird, you know? Like, games have become a lot easier to purchase over the years, but I guess sales do have to inevitably end at some point too..But it just doesn't really make sense when venues like gog.com are around, where you can download something like Beneath a Steel Sky for free.
I can't stand this Jim Ryan guy, holy shit. Supposedly you can now play Xbox, Xbox360 games on your android phone. I would love to play something like Xenogears or Suikoden 2 on my phone.
What the fuck Jim.
PS1 Classic, anyone?
Out of boredom I was poking around the PSClassic, and I came across a stunning revelation today - Shinan already posted that great article on how many games were originally planned for the system. A lot of them were cut because of licensing issues (Spyro/Crash trilogy rerelease from activision/universal)
...But combine those licensing issue, with the fact that you only have 15GB of storage on the system. and suddenly those selection of games become really really small. Jrpgs were huge on the playstation, but a lot of them had multiple discs, if you had more than one, you'd also be cutting into the number of games.
So the question becomes: knowing how much space is on this system; which 20-25 games would you include on the Playstation classic? (space permitting?)
Here's the original PAL/USA list.
And here's what I was able to include:
Ace Combat 2
Ape Escape
Crash Bandicoot 2
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy Tactics
Gran Turismo
IntelligentQube
JetMoto
Metal Gear Solid
Odd World: Abe's Odyssey
PaRappa the Rapper
Resident Evil Director's Cut
Silent Hill
SoulBlade/SoulEdge
Spyro the Dragon
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Syphon Filter
Tekken 3
Tomb Raider 2
Tony Hawk ProSkater 2
Twisted Metal 2
I tried to imagine what an "ideal" Playstation Classic would look like for the NA region, but my picks aren't the best and plus some of these don't work without a dualshock controller..(I'll probably swap out Crash 2 for Crash 1 and Ape Escape for Medal of Honor or something. I tried to squeeze in Armored Core and Warhawk, but there wasn't enough space.) But yeah, it's interesting to think about what this list of 20 games could've been, storage space and licensing issues aside.

Flash is dead. Let's talk about Shockwave/Macromedia Flash games!
author=Gari
Else, you can try Adobe Flash Debugger for swf files, which looks to be... official old flash, but on your computer.
Thanks for adding this Gari❤,
I was looking for this today. I was gonna do another write up, but a lot of games rely on shockwave or the latest version of flash you can no longer download - using the debugger player is a good offline solution. Thank you.
[RM2K3] .r3proj file problems.
author=Cherry
Anyway, try importing this registry file: https://cherryshare.at/f/6UAt7W/r3proj_steam.reg
(Note: This works only if your RM2k3 is in the path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RPG Maker 2003\rpg2003.exe". If not, you have to change the path in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\r3proj_auto_file\shell\open\command.)
Thanks Cherry! this worked❤
Before importing the registry file, for reference I decided to screenshot what came up under "default programs". It probably has something to do with reinstalling windows 7 or something.

im trying to find this game i played years ago, i'm fairly sure it's an rpgmaker game.
So it's very simple pixel style, black and orange palette. You're hiding from a killer and you find your dead parents(?) And every time he catches you it loops, the killer was borderline a stick figure but when you discover the bodies it's super detailed and like digital art, I think you crack open a wardrobe or something and see part of them
[RM2K3] .r3proj file problems.
Hi, I'm hoping Cherry or someone might be able to shed some light on this/fix this issue.
I recently had to reinstall steam rpgmaker2003 on windows 7. Before, steam rpgmaker2003 use to have this really cool feature where it would create .r3proj files that allowed you to quickly open multiple rm2k3 games in multiple rpgmaker2003 editors, whenever a new rpgmaker2003 project was created.
Problem is, with a recent update (I think?) the game file was renamed from .r3proj to .r3project making the old r3proj files unrecognizable.
I tried using the r3proj files to "Open with" rpg2003(the editor located the in steam folder) but then it asks for ultimate_eb.dll (the file associated with rpg2003 located within the steam folder, instead of the project folder)
This feature, when it worked saved a lot of time, but now it doesn't seem to be working anymore? Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried to remove rpgmaker2003 and reinstall, but r3proj files still fail to load.
UPDATE: I got it to work after renaming ".r3proj" to ".r3project". Is this a bug or something?

Post some old shit
I posted this in the RMN discord awhile back. I think Darken will get a kick out of this, I dunno. In the final fantasy anthologies strategy guide by brady games(1999). If you look very carefully on the right side of page 191 during the FF6 walkthrough. Dudes using a SNES9X emulator on a PC to grab screenshots for the official guide...lol!
I remember this part being a slog, especially if you had to travel back to the airship, there were a lot of monsters that had instant death abilities or something - So that's probably what happened; they got some dude to replay through the part and take screenshots from a PC? The Final Fantasy nerd in me couldn't believe it!
But yeah, I only had like a commodore 64 that ran windows 3.0 and Dos till 2000. So for years while looking at these screens I always wondered how they got FF6 to run on Windows.

Making Your Game Work Without the RTP
I wrote a similar article not too long ago. But it's probably too difficult to find. I guess the name is everything? i'll add this to the masterlist.
https://rpgmaker.net/tutorials/2610/
Or maybe it's too long winded? I dunno.
(TLDR/Summary of Steps):
https://rpgmaker.net/tutorials/2610/
(TLDR/Summary of Steps):
1.Edit RPG_RT.ini with "FullPackageFlag=1" to run without RTP
-Go into your game project folder
-Find a file called “RPG_RT.ini”,
-Add “FullPackageFlag=1”, Save.
2. Download Harmony.dll and place it in your project folder with the RPG_RT.exe (not needed for steam RM2000/RM2003)
Harmony.dll for RM2000
Harmony.dll for RM2003
3. Download RMtools [
4.Download the corresponding rtp:
Don Miguel's RM2000 RTP
RPGAdvocate's RM2003 RTP
----------------------------------------
RMWEB/Steam RM2000 RTP
RMWEB/Steam RM2003 RTP
5. Use RMtools to scan/import missing RTP files for rpgmaker2000/2003 (or merge the corresponding RTP folder)
6. Test your rpgmaker game on a computer that does not have rpgmaker installed. (or temp rename the RTP folder for testing)
7. If no errors are found, you're done!

I kind of checked out on this cause of "year" problems, but looking back at cyberpunk - yo we need to do another one of these!
Also I was wrong about trials of mana, that actually got decent reviews.

[FEEDBACK NEEDED!] Marrend's 2020 misao compliation thread: Let us know what you think!
Just wanna chime in here quickly about the list, a few months after the fact. Really happy we were able to put this together: I'm starting to brainstorm ideas for a promo for 2021, and because it's in this format that Marrend and I helped put together, I can already quickly get an idea of the games to highlight, because they're in this list.
Looking forward to what 2021, thanks again for the input everyone.
Especially Marrend.❤
