Yeah, the big picture with all the words on it would work, but then when you import the picture, you can chose which color is the "see-through" color. So White letters on a Black background, then make the Black part as the invisible part. Only the letters will show when you do a Show Picture. Then, just move that picture in the direction you want it to scroll.

Doing it Zelda Style :D

This question is unfortunately more then a simple "Reply" can answer.

Firstly, it's a CBS (Custom Battle System) in which you make up your own events that handle everything such as your health, attacks, magic, as well as the mobs attacks, health, etc... Very lengthy process.

Your first step is to have no Enemy Encounters on any of your maps. You will have no "encounters" as these would be random attacks that take you into battle mode. You don't want that.

Then you need to capture key inputs for the buttons you want for swinging your sword, using an item, talking to people, bringing up your map, etc. Make it a Common Event that runs Parallel. Then, have Condition Branches that call another Common Event for the action done. (IE pressing the swing sword button would call the attack event.). You would also want to set a switch so your key presses don't cross, or someone could attack while looking at the map.

Then, you'd have to make an event for each of those possible actions. Common Event called ShowMap would do the functions that would bring up your map, how keys are handled while the map is up, and the transaction back to the playing field. The Attack event would handle the animations, as well as if the attack lands, what damage is done and to who. (This is where you have to think outside the box to figure out how to calculate if a hit lands or what not.)

Then, you have to make the "enemies" as Events that would need AI for hero detection, hero chasing, running away, attacking hero, ranged attacks, etc...depending on the enemy. (This part also requires a lot of figuring things out.)

That should get you started. There are a lot of Tutorials (or Tuts) on how to do things CBS related (as well as how to do the things I've listed). Try searching and seeing if you can find more exact explanations. It's a bit of work, so expect to be very familiar with the workings of RM2k3. If you aren't, you might want to start fooling around with it before taking on a CBS.

System graphics

Found it, thanks. I looked at the help under System, and it just showed what you could do in the database...there was no link, but I did finally find it, thanks

System graphics

Sorry, I should have mentioned, I have RM2k3...so my system graphic is the text box color, followed by the borders and up down arrows, then two more squares, then a lot of small icons. Then the last two rows are just blocks of colors. Twenty in all. I think they are like the Text color, the color for HP or MP or something, then the last ones are like the colors that appear when you use the /c(#) in a message box. I know the 0-19 are those colors, but are the first ones to specific text by default? or something like that?

System graphics

Ok, I can't remember where I saw it, nor can I find it again. I'm looking for a "template" that shows what each of the color/boxes in the System graphic represent. For example, I know the first Large square represents what the text boxes will look like.

Anyone know where that diagram is?

[Question] Getting shot at - when in Enemies Line of Fire

Doh, just answered this on Gaming World...

well, for my (lame) shooting game, I had the mobs event call Move Event, and set the move to Move Towards Hero. So as to give the hero time, I put a Wait event after the move, to give the Hero time to run around without the mobs being completely on his toes. The longer the wait, the slower the mob is. I tried slowing the events move speed, but that didn't give me time to "shoot" at the mob since he was always moving. (maybe that will work better for you then it did for me though.)

To go into your game, first you'd need to add a Face Hero to the Move Event also. I'd add the Condition Branch's to check for matching X or Y before the Wait. That Wait would also make it so there is time between shots, allowing the Hero to get out of the line of sight. Maybe put a Switch to ON if X or Y matches, and then have a second page for the shooting, so you can put a longer Wait in there then the Move Event. Just make sure to turn OFF that Switch if the X or Y doesn't match anymore.

Also, I was thinking about "proximity" to the mob. You know, the mob doesn't "see" the hero until he's closer. You could do a check within the X, Y branch that if the hero is + or - 10/15/20 of X and Y, that he's within range to pull the mobs attention. Just a thought

Usernames?
