Magical Crystals - Clichés To Hate

Thank you, Chivi! I strongly believe good storytelling is open even for basic tropes, but it requires using them in a wise, aware manner - not just "I'll use it because other people use it and I don't have a better idea" but rather "I'll use it 'cause it's the right path to make my story even better".
I personally never made a story or a game using magical crystals exactly because of this reason (I never made a story that would be Better thanks to them), but if I'll have a good reason to create it, I will. : )

The Tavern

Hi, Gainsborough, we're glad you got interested in The Tavern! : ) We plan to release the full version during this month - the demo is only a shadow of the final product. : )

I think you should try to use Pratchett WAS, not IS in your sentences. He died in 2015.

Revenge Explains Everything - Clichés To Hate

You quote Terry Pratchett and call Other people pretentious? : ) Good talk.
I answered your entire post, not minor parts of it - I'm not going to quote every single phrase you used and rephrase how much I don't agree with it in creative ways. You literally said "normal" people are boring. For me people are the most fascinating creatures there are to be found. How can we even start to talk about it? xD
If your grand teacher is a person I find unable to teach anything about Good storytelling, we obviously won't find a middle ground.
The difference is you're going to insult random people on the internet because of that. ; )

Revenge Explains Everything - Clichés To Hate

That's cool, but if your great example and advice-giver is Terry Pratchett, I'm afraid we have nothing to talk about. I absolutely hate his books. I loved them when I was very young, but then I started to read a lot of high-class literature. It was impossible to return to Pratchett's level.
If you think he was the best person to take advice about storytelling from, I'm pretty sure you and I are looking for completely different things in stories.

Hi, lonestarluigi. We're not looking for beta testers anymore. : )

Bows Are Easy And Only For Women - Clichés To Hate

Basics swords are not even that powerful, though really, really pricey. Using them is really difficult, they don't give you that much impact and they are sort of "universal, but not that special weapon" for rich people, useful more for defense than aggressive attacks.

For example, a basic medieval knight (most likely - a man) will use mostly a lance, since he will do everything he can to never leave a horse. Horses are awesome. But if he looses his lance, he will not instantly think about a sword - he will use an axe, since its really easy to swing it and just brutally punch footmen around you.

There is so much interesting stuff hidden in this topic that people want to ignore in the name of "making things cool". I honestly think that using more historically accurate research is just as, if not more, "cool".

Still though - use crossbows. They are so good and easy to use it's just stupid.

Bows Are Easy And Only For Women - Clichés To Hate

Oh boy so many new comments! I want to just thank you fellows for keeping it civil. When I saw how many updates we got, I was afraid of some anti-female argument. You are officially more kindhearted than GDC's Youtube section. ; )

We'll upload the new part of the series tomorrow! (No promises it will be accepted by the admins instantly, though. They have a life outside of RMN after all. ; ))

Bows Are Easy And Only For Women - Clichés To Hate

I had a bow for one of my female characters BECAUSE it requires strength and skill (she also had a hell of a strength stat in comparison to the other characters, to reflect that). Not because she was a woman, but because she had legit reasons to want to use the bow instead of other weapons (she wasn't a fan of engaging in the heat of battle itself, preferring to snipe from afar so that she was both safe but also not having to see what her actions caused. She was also quite squeamish, but determined to back up her friends. And learning archery allowed her to spend time away from everyone else (and gave her a set role in her town).

These sound like great reasons to make someone an archer/sniper. Thanks for sharing! - Aureus
