Music/Art Programs?

Alright, I am in desperate need for good programs for Music and Art (*cough* wow, I bet you would've never guess that from the name) and I'm curious as to what everyone else uses? If possible (and hopefully free) anyone wanna give me links to where I can download such programs? I'm preferring programs in the neighborhood of creation over editing, but both would be greatly appreciated.

I Just Bit My Cat

I was wandering around the forums and my cat jumped on me and bit me. So in response to this hate crime, I bit her back. Any suggestions of what I should do?

What comes to mind from the username above you?

A little hairy man that sits in his room which he built underneath a large oak tree and watches homestarrunner nonstop and now talks like Strong Bad and yells at his cardboard box yelling,"STINY! Get me a Danish!" To this day... he still hasn't gotten his Danish..

Ask to be Medieval Personage! [1 Week Only][Roman names later!]

Psh, I would doubt any other kind of moderator on some other RPG Making website in their ability of coming up for a wicked name for me, but since this is RMN and you're Kentona Kentontius Maximus, I have no fears.

Edit: This name is freakin' awesome! I knew my trust wouldn't go unrewarded

can I post a question about dodorian here?

Anyone else notice the three different accounts (same person) asking questions?

The Next Maker?

I personally enjoy the pixelated goodness of RM2K3 and severely missed it for when I tried out XP and VX. The newer makers just seem like they're just trying to milk the cow and not really come out with anything all that new other than scripting. Basically it feels like they're doing what Microsoft is doing, have 1 drunk coder, and 99 graphic artists, and slap a label on it that is "Vista". I will admit that adding in the ability to have a caterpillar system, ABS, CMS, already in there will make things so much easier and save hours upon hours of time, but it takes away the feel of accomplishing something great in your own game when you finally have it made with all the bugs worked out and everyone that plays your game sitting there and thinking,"Omg, how the freakin' crap did he do that?!" Although it does take away that feeling, I wouldn't mind it. ;D Of course, it also opens up a door for a lot more crap to be released because Little Jimmy thinks that since he has a built in ABS system, he needs to flood the system with constant releases of RTP, completely generic storylines, Final Fantasy, and terrible grammar/spelling. This happens anyways, and people are open to make whatever game they wish, but I don't exactly like having to flip through page after page of 10-15 minute games of "Slay the Dragon! Final Fantasy PWNS! You're crap got stolen, killed, crapped on, get revenge!"
In next maker, I'd like to see:
-Choice of battle systems (ABS, sideview, frontview)
-WYSIWYG type of system for pictures
-More pictures
-Importing of any type of file for music, graphics, etc
-Ability to edit the default systems
-More noticeable pixels! (I like the smoothness of newer graphics, but I like the older style of games a incredible amount more)
-Built in character maker (instead of going to the charas-generator)
-Built in battle character maker that looks like charsets with swords drawn (not all fairy like looking RTP in RM2K3, pretty much the biggest and only downside that came with it)
-Picture editor
-WYSIWYG side-view for well, basically everything that happens in the game
-A message system that doesn't need a patch so that you don't go off the border in-game.
-Built in music creator/editor
-An awesome penguin type of character that pops up giving you inspiration for whatever type of game you're making which is exactly what you were wanting to think up but didn't get to it yet so that you aren't stumped and offers you free chocolate-chip or snicker doodle cookies and have them magically come out of your cd-rom drive hot, fresh, and ready to go.

Of course, all of the things like a music, picture editor, and the magic inspirational penguin would crank up the price considerably. So I'm pretty sure I'd be able to do without, it probably wouldn't be up to par and other programs such as photoshop would be more of what I needed anyways.

Favorite Game

Golden Sun for the GBA... yeah I said it... The GBA! It had surprisingly good graphics for a handheld system of it's day, it was a rather long RPG as well. I've beaten it 7-8 times, and I really liked the Djinn system that they had in there, and how certain weapons used a special ability when you're just attacking. The storyline wasn't all that great sadly, but it still became my favorite game.

Starcraft or Warcraft III?

Well I liked both of them and have played them both for more hours than I'd ever care to count. But I'd probably have to go with Warcraft III. Personally I liked the hero system and micro management, which led to lots of amazing custom games. But some things were very annoying like upkeep and a rather small population limit. I don't think graphics should be a consideration in deciding since they were released 5 years apart, which creates plenty of time for improvement. Starcraft is awesome, but slightly outdated. I'm still surprised to see it for sale when it came out 10 years ago, even though I still find myself playing a bit of Brood War every once in awhile. Yay Carriers!

Planning your RPG

Normally I think of a storyline and let it swim around in my head for a long time until I have the main parts of it all figured out. I also make sure that my storyline isn't anything generic, or anything that I've heard of happening in anyone elses game. (I try to be original) Then I like to build a world map, then think up events that will take place at each town that I decide to throw on there. Then I work on the battlecharacters/battlesystem. After that I start actually making the towns and making certain events just giving a description of whats going to happen in the town, and go back later to actually put all of what I wrote down into action. Then once again go through the whole thing to do touch-ups and make sure everything that I wanted to happen will, or get rid of any loose ends, fix typos, and anything like that.
