vacant sky's failure and the trends of selling rtp to stupid humans

Most commercial games are made by teams.-

I'm sorry, let me stop you right there. Are we not talking about indie games? I'm pretty certain we are. Stop falling back on this. It's irrelevant.

That's a just fact. Not only could Pixel spend as much time making Cave Story as he wanted because he's a hobbyist, him being so multitalented is extremely anomalous; it's unrealistic to expect every person who wants to make a game to be highly talented in all areas of game development,

Pixel himself didn't have the technical prowess to create a game, so he LEARNED HOW TO. If you're too lazy to expand your skillset to realize your vision, you don't necessarily have to. If you're passionate about game development, you should be talented in AT LEAST ONE AREA of development, helping to cut costs. You are severely overestimating the amount of money it takes to make a worthwhile game. How much money did Dwarf Fortress need to get made? Did the creator have to commission some dingbat from deviant art for derivative anime character designs?

Uh, what? That doesn't even make sense. Game studios exist for a reason.

The entire purpose of the Independent development is to be free from larger studios and teams. What exactly ARE you trying to argue right now?

See my original post.

This does not bear repeating. Stop it.

In fact, replacing them with commercial-quality graphics is completely unrealistic for any development team with a small budget, and graphics are only part of the huge amount of work that goes into developing a game.

There are a great deal of games out there that prove this claim wrong. Cave Story being one of them. It was a game made by one person in 3 years. I doubt his development budget was anything close to 20,000 dollars.

There is a key thing to remember in cave story's case. The author had talent.

He was versatile and tried to do things he wasn't even familiar with (Music). Remember, the cost of your own labor is only time.

If you need 20,000 dollars to hire some random shmucks to perform most every aspect of game making for you; you're in the wrong field. The less people involved in the creation of a game, the better off it is; budgetary or otherwise.

2. Asking for $20,000 to fund the development of a game is ridiculous. Actually, $20,000 is a very small budget for a commercial game.

This might be relevant if the subject were commercial games. Maybe, I don't know though.

Thiamor, while I feel that WC should stay, your attitude is completely counterproductive to the type of place that we want to foster. You're basically driving people away. You realize that a bunch of people who may be on the fence about registering still read this page, right? What kind of image are you projecting?

I don't understand, who wouldn't want to be a part of a community of petulant fucksticks who lash out at people for leaving their community?

The fire always burns

Anyone who's currently interested in RM20XX could, yeah, but there's always the potential for more interested (too lazy to look up a thesaurus, sorry) people who chance upon WC's project through a directly-related website (i.e. RMN). S'all about demographics.

Then they can follow the re-direct link, but I don't understand your exact problem. People who find this place by accident are just as likely to find MD by accident. Furthermore, Dreamincode's visitor base far exceeds this site's. Giving the engine proper exposure is not going to be an issue.

Look, you're the first guy to tell me I didn't look like a ghoul; so I'm not calling you a vacuous imbecile right now; but be reasonable and try to look at this objectively.

WolfCoder might have his personal reasons (e-morals??) but at the end of the day I think it's pretty stupid to completely abandon a huge number of geniunely interested people.

Idk, whatever floats your boat, dude.

In the interest of logic you could just... still follow the project pretty easily?

Phantom's Legacy Redux, an Update

I will now predict the future with stunning accuracy.
But first, let me explain the preceding events that will dictate the course of what is yet to come.

History
1) Users invest time and energy into RMN. Cliques form.
2) Something happens and RMN has a change of direction.
3) One or two people have beef with the new direction.
4) By peer pressure and the nature of discussion, everybody in that group's clique now have beef with RMN.
5) The negative sentiment grows and open flames occur here and there.
6) One or two of the more immature disaffected users cause physical damage to the site. This is their version of slamming the door on the way out.
7) One by one, disaffected users leave the site. They all slam the door on the way out. "Fuck you, RMN. You wronged me. I'm the victim."
8) The disaffected users form a new site with lots of ambition in their hearts.

Now watch the future unravel as...
1) The new site never really goes anywhere. Knee-jerk reactions rarely do.
2) Real Life happens, and members of the disaffected group leave the RM community, thereby leaving the site.
3) The few members left don't really want to look after a site that has no future. They abandon it.
4) They meander back here in a low key fashion. Sometimes they change their alias. They'll also be the first ones to say "The past is the past. Let bygones be bygones."
5) It's cool. Everybody welcomes them back.

If you've seen it on one forum, you've seen it on a dozen.

Yeah, I mean remember that time everyone got pissed at gamingw.net and then went to Rpgmaker.net, then after th... oh.

Phantom's Legacy Redux, an Update

Fallen Griever: The majority of the money came from USERS of this site who have either have not cared enough of my blog's departure to post, or have stated that they'll continue to follow the game anyway. RMN Apparently (according to paypal) gave me 25$. If Holbert or any of the staff would like, I will refund the money to them.

Dragonheartman donated
Miracle donated
Dyhalto donated, RMN just added a bit to his donation.

I owe my fans, my donators and various users of this site my greatest gratitude and my continued development.

I owe RMN and its administration 25 dollars.

Phantom's Legacy Redux, an Update

I was "complaining about" the reason you'd given for moving your shit prior to my original post, which boiled down to extreme arrogance. Since all you chose to do is make a comment about sharing the front-page with other games, that's all I had to work with. To be honest, now that you've given your other reasons I think that they boil down to a combination of arrogance and cowardice... so I was only half right in my judgement, but that happens when you only make a single, off-hand comment about sharing the home-page with other games instead of actually explaining yourself/saying nothing.

"Cowardice."

I take back what I said, you're not being serious here.

Phantom's Legacy Redux, an Update

Unfortunately, what you actually said was basically, "The games here suck, my games is better, I don't want to share a front-page with shit games". That's a completely different thing to say and, frankly, it's a poisonous attitude to have.

I have stated on numerous occasions my problems with this site, (once even on IRC during the MAGI INCIDENT) and yes; these instances were well before this announcement. I clarified myself when prompted to. I don't get what you're complaining about.

The whole point of putting "Latest Releases" on the front-page is so that people will see them and offer advice, hopefully resulting in better developers and better games. This is a much healthier attitude to have regarding the future of the community.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what I've said in regards to having good and/or featured games having a more prevalent space on the front page. Bear in mind that this too is not the only reason I'm moving my future downloads and updates.

Phantom's Legacy Redux, an Update

Don't be a disingenuous cunt. I have too much experience of being one to fall for it. We both know that you didn't mention the state nor the style of the front-page prior to me calling you out on your childish elitism. The fact is that you're moving your game away from RMN because you don't want it showcased alongside "lesser" games. Why bother denying it?

Just to be sure, let's take a look at what I was responding to (other than the main text in your blog, which makes no mention of the front-page of the site either), shall we?

Oh we're being serious now? Good.

I wanted to keep things brief, your moronic post demanded I go in more detail, also creation asked nicely later on. Nothing I have said is provably wrong, isn't that why they're remaking RMN yet again? I wonder how long the post RMN4 burst of activity will last before everything dies down and nothing happens again.

In retrospect I should have just followed catamites example or just saying "Im moving my stuff here bye".
