WIP music...

A song I'm working on for my project. My headphones are crapping out on me so the mastering sucks. That and it is a Work In Progress.

Constructive criticism is welcome.

(RMXP) Display current / max values for HP/SP on the combat screen?

I suck at scripting. I've never really worked with a class-based language before, so I really don't know what I'm doing. There's one tiny little modification I'd like to put into my game though, and it seems like it should be a fairly straight-foreward copy+paste sorta deal. As far as I can tell though, it's probably a little more complicated than it seems (big suprise there!).

So basically, what I want is to display both the current and max values for my actors' HP and SP during battle, rather than just current values. The same way it's displayed in the menu.

What I tried doing first was copying the following lines of code from Window_Base:
self.contents.draw_text(hp_x + 48, y, 12, 32, "/", 1)
self.contents.draw_text(hp_x + 60, y, 48, 32, actor.maxhp.to_s)

..and pasting it into Window_BattleStatus like so:
actor = $game_party.actors
actor_x = i * 160 + 4
draw_actor_name(actor, actor_x, 0)
draw_actor_hp(actor, actor_x, 32, 120)
--> self.contents.draw_text(hp_x + 48, y, 12, 32, "/", 1)
--> self.contents.draw_text(hp_x + 60, y, 48, 32, actor.maxhp.to_s)
draw_actor_sp(actor, actor_x, 64, 120)
--> self.contents.draw_text(sp_x + 48, y, 12, 32, "/", 1)
--> self.contents.draw_text(sp_x + 60, y, 48, 32, actor.maxsp.to_s)

When I enter a battle, I get an error saying "Undefined local variable: hp_x".
So I need to define hp_x (and sp_x too I'm assuming) as...something? That's where I'm stumped. I dunno, I'm probably going about this entirely the wrong way. Suggestions, anybody?

HP/MP gauges in battle and menu in RMXP?

Cool script! I was wanting to have something like this in my game, so I'd like to use it in my project if that's okay with you :)

I'd like to also have a guage for EXP. I tried copy/pasting the chunk of code and replacing all the 'hp' to 'exp', but that doesn't seem to work because I can't seem to figure out what the right "function call" (or whatever it's called) for exp to next lvl. I tried "exp_next" and "exp_rest_next", the two I found in other parts of the code. But those all just gave me errors when I opened the menu in-game.

I'm sure it's something stupid I'm leaving out, or miss-typing, or something. It's been WAAY too long since I've done any real programing, and my skills are practically nil by now.

Who else here thinks Dark Ambient music is awesome?

Best VG Soundtracks + overrated

I don't know how particular this order is, but:

1) Diablo (Diablo 2's soundtrack can suck it)
2) MDK (or pretty much anything by Tommy Tallarico)
3) Quake 3 (Front Line Assembly, bitch!)
4) Mechwarrior 2
5) The 7th Guest
6) Wipeout XL
7) Portal
8) Myst / Riven
9) System Shock 2
10) Fallout

EDIT: I'm an idiot.

Some of these tunes aren't half bad, some are quite ear-jarring though (and not in a good way).

I wouldn't really consider it psychedelic though. They have more of an industrial feel to them, IMO. Reminds me a lot of Ice Ages, which is cool.

So why am I hearing that the Airbender movie sucked?

post=147958
..makes The Matrix look like a short story done by a grade 6 student.

Brilliant on so many levels.

Oh, and to get back on topic: M. Night Shamalan...that's enough reason for me to avoid Airbender. That and it's a Disney movie that's not Tron.

What was the last film you watched?

ahahaha that movie is hilarious and stupid at the same time. I think the funniest part was when one of the bad guys turned into a zombie and he started speed crawling on the trees like bug, that was just lol.

Don't forget the part where he burrows underground and pops up behind Hero Guy.

My favorite is the squirrley short guy that keeps losing his gun. He just gets pissed and pulls out an even bigger gun out of his back pocket. By the end of the movie, he's running around with some huge anti-tank sniper rifle thing.

What was the last film you watched?

Versus is a good one too, if you're looking for B-grade japanese gore. Kind of a mix between Highlander, Street Fighter, and The Blair Witch Project, with a healthy sprinkling of campy humor and zombies throughout. Just make sure you get the director's cut (the other version is missing most of the gore and is horribly edited).
