NOVALUX'S PROFILE

Hey, Novalux here. I'm planning to make some games someday, if I ever get around to finishing them. I enjoy trying out others' games on rpg maker as well and writing reviews.

Immersion vs. Game Mechanics

Depends on what type of game it is. If you're playing a visual novel game, for example, immersion is most likely going to come before gameplay. If you're playing Tetris, on the other hand, gameplay is king and immersion takes a back seat. Not to say that both can't be combined though, as games with innovative mechanics that work with that game can really immerse you into the game.

S. 897: Bank on Students Loan Fairness Act

As a longtime libertarian that's more or less well versed in politics, I'd like to propose an alternate solution to the problem: Don't lower the interest rates.
Why? Because it won't solve the problem. I'll try to explain it the best I can here, but its probably best to check out this video to get a better explanation:

Basically, there are 2 reasons why the price of tuition is going up:

1. Degrees are getting more valuable. This one is more or less obvious; the more money you get from a degree, the more colleges are going to charge for it. Basic supply and demand, right?

2. Gov. subsidies (including student loans) artificially inflate demand. This one is much less obvious, but nonetheless it is real. By giving students subsidies, college becomes more affordable, therefore demand rises, and colleges subsequently increase prices.

While it may seem like a good idea to cut interest rates, it does nothing to solve the problem of rising college prices, and if anything it increases the problem.

[Poll] Would you sell your game on RMN?

Only one person likes turtles? For shame, for shame.

Rhythos RPG Builder - a Free and Open Source Dev Tool

Right after I just bought rpg maker too... Looks like its shaping up to be pretty good though.

Anyone need help? Anyone?

hey kid, fetch me a coffee, yeah?

Regular or decaf?

Anyone need help? Anyone?

I'm not gonna lie, I'm new to rpg making(although I have designed maps and levels in other games) and I haven't been doing all too well. I've read a lot of tutorials already (Almost 3 weeks' worth), but they haven't really helped out much past teaching me the basics of the program. Since I'm much more of a "learn while doing" type of learner, I figured I could try and help out whoever needs help making their rpgs, and learn the ropes that way.
The one caveat is that I can't do any artwork. Period. Other than that I can do decent mapping, maybe some story/ eventing and the like. Don't expect me to be strictly on schedule though, because of homework and some other things I have going on.

Edit: I'm gonna start working on my first rpg for a little while more and see how its turning out. If it turns out crappy, then I might do this for real. Sorry for any false advertising.

I'm a composer for classical/modern/contemporaneous music who wants to compose for a game!

Sounds interesting. If I ever get my first game started it'd be awesome to have some original music, but that probably won't be for a while.

Welcome to the site! As you can see, any thread can become a debate! :D
Yeah, I kinda noticed that while looking at some other posts... Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome to rpg maker.

Choices choices

Not 100% sure on this one, but here goes nothing. I'm going to rate each one on a scale from 1-10, 1 meaning stay and 10 meaning change.

Story- 5
I think adding a little bit more to the story of the world could be pretty good and help involve people in the world. But only a little, and it should basically be revealed gradually as you go along, like it has been so far.

Chars- 6
I think it would be pretty interesting to learn more about the chars instead of them being completely cliche, maybe a just a little backstory to some people and most of it to the main char and her friend.

Combat- 2
Yeah, this doesn't seem like it would fit in very well with this game. Maybe you could do some parody battles/minigames of it (like facing off against the heroes), but as a central game mechanic I'm gonna say no. I do like the idea of it making sense to play certain minigames in certain areas though.

Graphics- 1
Graphics are already great as they are, and keep in mind that the more you improve graphics the more the game lags for people with slow computers (like me)

Overall I'd say keep the game more or less the way it is, don't fix what isn't broke.

You Are Not The Hero!

*slow clap* Amazing game, all the way around. Great dialouge, nice mapping, and fun gameplay. I only have one issue though, and thats the jumping. I have a semi-old computer and it can lag while playing most levels in the game.
This makes trying to jump over gaps really annoying, as 80% of the time it wont register my jumps and I have died countless times trying to complete the jumping areas (it was still fun enough that I wanted to continue). Either increasing the jump distance or having fewer of them would be much appreciated. Anyway, good luck with the rest of the game, can't wait to see whats next.
