I'm a student from Paraguay that likes to design and play a lot of games.
Having said that, I've also made sprite animations in the past and I'm still doing some when I have time.

Add Jumps cares.
Hear me out: Liberty will likely be streaming these games when the event is finished. It'd be great fun to scare the crap out of her on the stream.
Only add jumpscares if the proper tension has been built up, just like superstroke said.

While I've got lots of ideas for plot and puzzles, I fear that I'm either not adding enough horror or adding it willy-nilly; I don't think creepy music and limited vision is going to cut it... I need to make it scarier!
Add random jump scares, it always works! (It also decreases the value of your game by 99%, but meh)

Meanwhile, I'm left questioning whether or not it's still horror if there isn't any blood or jumpscares or chase scenes...
Well, your game doesn't need jumpscares, blood or chase scenes. If you manage to build a tense atmosphere that keeps the player on his toes, it will also be horrifying. For example, I can't remember the name of the game, but it had to do with an abandoned bunker, it only used sounds and atmoshpere to deliver a truly frightening experience.
Edit: The name of the game is "Bunker 16", it's quite a creepy game

Currently working on random monster chases. Probably around 50% done with the game. Just have to add some more spooks get some more busts done by my amazing artist and wrap up the story.

Dungeons vs. DRAG-Marines 69k - No DRAG's Die
"Excuse me, but I think you have the wrong impression about me comrade, I might like to go headstraight into battle, but I'll let you know I can build a tank given enough time and proper materials, heck, I could even turn my platinum axes into something that isn't meant to chop if I so feel like it!"
Seeing as my comrade isn't up for a frontal assault, I follow his ambush idea and try to polish some of my axes as much as possible, trying to turn them into reflective mirrors.
"If we position these propeerly further inside the cave, we could blind our enemies with a simple flashlight, we would use the reflective surfice of my axes to blind them in the darkness and attack while they're disoriented!"
Ugh, I really dislike when people see my liking of the direct approach as a sign of lower inteligence. But I guess that's more my fault, seeing as I never really show a lot of thought when I make any battle plans.

"Muahahahahha!! Big mistake for them to leave their spaceships!" I turn towards my comrade in arms "let's kill some dungs, shall we? I'll be the distraction and you take the jump on them!"
I proceed to take two of my handaxes into my hands and prepare to jump out of cover to attack the dungs with insults in hopes of them to focus solely on me. In case that they are within throwing distance, I'll throw my handaxes at one of them.

Everything is going well so far, I tihnk I'll actually have a finished game for the deadline, but we'll see.
