Short Games vs Longer Games

I've been playing RPGs for around 20 years now. 8 hours is indeed the average commercial game unless you include RPGs, which is the whole topic here.

This gen..

Lost Odyssey
Infinite Undiscovery
Final Fantasy XIII
Disgaea 3
White Knight Chronicles
Blue Dragon
Dragon Age
Dragon Age II
3D Dot Game Heroes
Demon's Souls
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Enchanted Arms
Fallout 3 and New Vegas
The Last Remnant
Nier
Resonance of Fate
Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Tales of Vesperia
Valkyria Chronicles

and countless handheld RPGs, and a good portion of console RPGs I missed are all way way longer than 8 hours.

Also, a game being good regardless of length is enough for me to want a sequel.

I've hated very, very few games. I've liked 95% of the RPG Maker games I've played too. I'm incredibly easy to please. My main requirement for an RPG is length.

Short Games vs Longer Games

If I can't grind in a game, it makes me sad. What's worse in those kinds of games is when the battle system is amazing, but the game won't allow you to enjoy it as much as you want.

So, Final Tear 3

So I guess a couple of hateful reviews and a "let's hate" topic teaming up people to destroy the game (successfully, cause it was removed from the site) wasn't enough, someone had to create a topic like this.

This topic right now is almost as big as Leo and Leah's gameprofile (in terms of posts), which has been up since July 2010, is a very nice game and is now featured.

Also worth noting that Final Tear had more reviews, etc.

Just an example, I could name a few other good games that don't get nearly as much attention.

Now can someone please tell me what's the point?

I wasn't creating a hate topic. I simply created a topic stating that the game was removed from the site. I never flamed the guy. I pointed out things I didn't like in his game and moved on. For some reason though, flame wars always break out in my topics.

Short Games vs Longer Games

Battles are the meat of games that have them. Can't have a game without gameplay afterall. An epic story is great, but I can get that out of a book or movie. Something like Final Fantasy XIII gets mad props from me for battle system. I can get into that all day long. It's great.

Mini-games are something I'm split on. I don't care for them, however if they are in the game, I want them to be good enough to make me want to play. Blitzball and Triple Triad are good examples of mini-games I like to play. Those horrendous lightning dodging, butterfly catching, and jump-rope mini-games are examples of stupid, stupid ones.

I've seen a lot of people on various forums say that battles just get in the way of the story for them, which really makes little sense to me. If all you have is story, you'd be paying $40-60 (commercial games of course) for a 2-3 hour game.

Gameplay video -- Pass or Fail

That video is great. I really want to play this now. I agree with him about the writing, too. It's very well done.
