Some VX engine help.

Yet, wasn't there another screen shot of that same game that DIDN'T use the RTP?

Video game genres that will eventually die in the coming years.

Video games aren't that old sir.

Or you could, you know, use things other than VX RTP.

How could you suggest such a thing?! Enterrain is full of geni-

Yeah, I would do that since I do that with almost every other game. Except the sad fact that many VX tiles I've seen don't look realitic at all in anyway. I think VX actually downgraded from XP.

Video game genres that will eventually die in the coming years.

We like video games. We make video games, and now we must realize that if you think ahead some of the genres of today are slowly fading away. A few genres that will in the coming years, eventually will be abandoned or rarely seen:

Platformers

There really almost isn't such a thing as a PLATFORMER. Including that plumber guy. Most platformers nowadays are fused with other genres. Usually cleverly as well. There isn't many if at all TRUE platformer games.

Fighters

Let's face it, other than Gulity Gear, the series that tried mixing genres with the fighting genre, and Mortal Kombat, that could add like laser guns and shit to there games, fighting games are dying rather fast. This is of course, excluding those Fight Night EA games and the like, I am talking arcade type fighting games.

The 2D plane thing is done to death, the 3D movement on a 2D plane has been done to death. A lot of games have similar attacks and animations, a lot of the stories aren't even really stories, just and execuse to fight. It's basically the same thing over and over again.

Guilty Gear tried mixing genres to keep fighting games alive. The problem with the way they did it was that they were bordering FIGHTING GAME with BEAT EM' UP GAME. 3D fighting is also borering other genres. An example would be the Final Fantasy fighter. Dissidia I believe. Really, the fighting needs an uplift, but it seems close to impossible at the moment. There are fighting games in a first person perspective, but the problem with that is you can't really make and arcade fighter like GG, MK, or SF in first person.

First-Person shooters.

These games have been highly popular. The problem with this genre is that we have/had received many FPS games in large amounts quickly. Now, the main problem is that FPS games need different ideas for stories. Different enviorments, and etc. Right now, many popular shooters have set the bar impossibly high, that others are trying to copy their stories and ideas. Remember when WW2 was popular enough to have like 3000+ games based on WW2? That's a perfect example of what I mean. So far we have "WE ARE IN A WAR" then we have "SHOOT THE ALIENS" then we have "PROTECT THE PERSON/GOVERNMENT/PRESIDENT FROM TERRORITS" Then you have "JOIN AN ARMY TO KILL THINGS" Then you have "KILL THE ZOMBIES.' Many, and I mean many FPS games actually follow or closely follow this paths and they need to branch out. Those are the most popular story paths to follow at the moment. Mostly right now, if we didn't have Online Multi, many developers would switch the way they do things.

RPG/JRPG/TBRPG

There really isn't such a thing a PURE RPG any more. JRPGs tend to stick to a linear path. Which may or may not be ok, but many JRPG story lines are exactly the same, or border the same with few differences. Some of the quests even seem the same. They restrict your choicing so you barely actually play a role unlike WRPGs/ARPGS and others. Those let you choose where you want to go, in whatever order, while knowing it effects what will happen.

TB or turnbased RPGs are actually now highly considered as "SLOW" or "THE COMPUTER PLAYS FOR YOU" Both of which are actually true in many cases. It really does get old for you to click a and wathc a miss for some reason while Bad guy B freezes the game to show a slow as attack animation. Or when Hero q chooses heal, then you have to wait for monster r to attack. Monster r than attacks, maybe cause you to be paralyzed. Despite you are paralyzed, the game will show a message saying you are still paralyzed or whatever status in a repeated cycle over and over again. Do not confuse this with Strategy based RPGs.

SIM Racing

While not sure if this is really a genre, this will eventually be one of the few that will fade away. Wow, I can drive a car, on a track, that like is so realisitc. While there is nothing going on but the sound of my engine driving a car. Or you can play NASCAR and hold the analog stick in the left position while the fake audience cheers.

There's and argument over which is better between the newere Gran Tourismo 5 and Forza Motrosport 3. Why does it matter? Whether one is more fun to drive or not, you are doing the same thing EACH GAME. Then you have offroad sims. WOW I AM DRIVING ON DIRT DOING THE EXACT SAME THING! I AM SO COOL AND AWESOME! No, you aren't. While changing how the simulators work is actually a step to taking it from very boring, to just boring, it's still the same thing. The PS3 is currently living off these types of games, and only the PS3. After the GT5 dissapointment, I am pretty sure this is going to help speed the end for these. Or at least for them not to be to popular.

AIR SIMS

Really? I can fly a plane? Oh great! So now what do I do? Keep flying the plane? How about if I add guns? What? I can't add to many weapons or else it won't just be a sim? Well, than I guess these WW2 guns on my WW2 sim plane will have to do. Wow this is boring. Damn, I suppose I'll make it an action game.

Adventure games

What is an adventure game? Chances are you're going to say I HAVE TONS OF ADVENTURE GAMES
Well sorry, but you don't have adventure games, most likely anyway. What you actually have is probably a cross of Adventure-action, Adventure-Platformer, Adventure-*Insert Genre here*, etc. I think adventure games are constantly confused with this dual-genre game as just adventure game so much, that people have no cluw what an adventure game is. Take out the action or any other genre that also is in the same game. Now you have a adventure game. Not like what you thoughy adventure games to be huh? I mean, you can jump, maybe have somebody shoot something. But putting to much of each will make it more than one genre.

GTA-CLONE

Yes, I found that for some reason this is listed as a genre. Even Wikipedia has it as a listed genre. Pretty much, I haven't seen a real GTA clone since Saints Row. But they may also be arcade games on XBLA that may also ry to immitate the early GTA games. But no one really is trying to copy GTA anymore. Yes, I know there is a new True Crime that came out recently, but that's like one game.

TBS

Turn Based Strategy, yes these are around. I pretty much compare them to Turn Based RPGS because they are the same concept. You walk one step, the enemy walks one step, the enemy moves, you move, you think you are in range to attack, you miss, the enemy attacks, hits you, you move back, it moves back, you select to attack, you hit the enemy, you move up, another enemy moves up. I mean, R-Type is an example of what I am talking about. Even though the game itself isn't really purely a Turn-Based Strategy.

Night Mare of Druaga, while horrible, tried to change up the genre so that you move in real time, but still take turns. So it did help a litle, but you are basically doing the same thing, but now the games doesn't freeze when it is your turn.

I'll probably find more to put here.

Some VX engine help.

Yep, I'm going to have so much fun with VX. *cries*

Some VX engine help.

Ok, quick question. So I have just started VX to work on the sequels sequel to a game series I am making. Now, after realizing I just lost $60 on a very un-detailed tile and character set. I decided to breath and calm down.So then I was like, "OK, I need to make some houses." But there are only walls and I need roofs for houses. I don't see any but two things that look like roofs.

Also, that waterfalls have rocks behind them, why do the waterfalls have rocks behind them?

New up in hur!

If this actually works, I will laugh for 68 straight days.

Why does ice beat fire?

I... I lost you in so many different directions that I can't find you.

Graphical help.

So I suppose they are some kind of popular band?
