[RMVX ACE] Possible game maker needs team BADLY :P
@Alexis9000
I can to some extent understand how you feel as I to am only getting started in game making. When I first came here and had a game idea I thought was great my first thought was: "I need to ask some help in making this game because I can only do little programming and little music ", but when I saw threads like this I understood that it would be a bad idea.
However as I thought about it I realized that I could do the rest of the game with little practise; existing chrasets could be modified and recolored to make charsets you want in your game, I could draw battlers by hand, scan them and resize them on computer to get decent battlers even though I know next to nothing about pixel art etc. With quick googling you can find tips for creating a story or designin a game - nowadays it's easy to find tutorials on all kind of things. If you would think and plan a little bit more you would see that you can in fact make entire game on your own.
It also shouldn't take too long get decent level of quality in new skills. People wiser than me say that it takes only 20 hours of deliberate practise to get good at something. If this is true then you could use 40 minutes a day for 4 months for practising scripting, mapping, pixel art and 'desingin' and you could fill the positions you listed in your opening post and make a game of decent quality. I'm sure that even you have time for that if you're truly into game making.
Just some thoughts I had - I hope that helps ^_^

Few days ago I finished the last four pieces I was planning to make, but I listened to them today and 2 of them suck so much that I don't want to submit them here. I try to make two new better pieces before time runs out in this event - I'm sure I end up with something better.
It's terrible when you work on something, think it's decent and then take a break and listen for it later and it sounds like rubbish...

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)
I was first thinking it would be nice to work in pokemon fan game project or make a fan game of my own, but then I thought about the legal ambiquities and other difficulties about implementing ready made game mechanics and concepts... so no fan games.
Instead I thought about making more original game idea and concepts with pokemon style gameplay. Currently in my mind is this megaman/pokemon crossover world where people battle using special robots. I've already created the core concepts and now I need to brainstorm different robot models, attacks and abilities. My aim is to create engaging battle engine with strategic depth.
First I checked RPG Maker VX Ace and other engines to see what I would use to implement the game, but I choose to use python programming language and pygame modules if I ever implement the game. I can do programming and music for the game, but I would need help with graphics if I ever made full game...

I made shorter (non-looping) version files of my earlier submissions and used ogg format instead of mp3. I also finished four new pieces.
Menu theme This is what I came up with for the (main) menu, but I'm not fully satisfied with the quiet part though...
Inn theme Music for inns; not very long or complicated.
Shop theme Not really sure whether I knew what I was doing here XD At first I didn't even knew what instruments I should use so I came up with this.
Battle theme1 Battle theme I really like, but the intro isn't too good...
Couldn't come up with names for the pieces this time, but maybe that's not important... There's still another four pieces to come.

Ok. Thank you guys for the info.
I will submit shorter versions of my earlier submissions to be used in the game.
Still wondering should I use mp3 or ogg though...

I have a question... or two about loops in the pieces.
I've noticed that most people here make their pieces play the loop point only once. I on the other hand am used to make the piece play the loop point twice to show how looping works in the piece, but is this necessary in a event like this?
Should I make new pieces play only up to the loop point and should I update my submission into shorter versions?
Also, how are the loops in music implemented in the game? Not all pieces loop to the beginning but they have a intro that is played only once so how is this data provided to game developers who put the music into game or is this data possible to put into audio file itself?
Just asking because I don't have experience in this side of making game music...

Some RPG battle music I made sometime ago
At the moment I mainly compose for the MOG music event, but I have some other projects I'm working on. I'm also trying to learn to use eq and compression to improve the quality of my music, but I don't even know when I should use them...
Most recently I tried to make a pokemon inspired RPG town theme with pokemon Heartgold & Soulsiver soundfonts. I'm not very happy about the result; some of the soundfonts used made a crackling sound and I wonder if there would be a effect or something in LMMS to remove the crackling from the soundfonts. Also, I'm not sure if it sounds anything like piece from pokemon games :/

I will contribute few pieces; I was planning a soundtrack of 12 pieces; 3 town themes, 2 dungeon themes, overworld/field theme, 2 battle themes, inn, shop, menu and game over themes and any extra pieces if I have time.
Here's 4 pieces I managed to finish already:
It would be nice to hear some comments...
On another note there was two youtube videos containing lectures with tips and common pitfalls in game music production that I want to share:
Professional game music creation tips & avoiding common mistakes
Composing memorable melodies for casual, social & mobile games
I hope that helps.

"Calm town" - theme for home town of the game's protagonist
"Infinity bay" - theme for a port town next to sea
"Eerie dungeon" - a dungeon theme - I hope that the shaker isn't too loud...
"Widespread plains" - an overworld/field theme

Hi to all. Wannabe VGM composer here.
Yay, thank you for welcoming me ^_^
I mainly use LMMS for making pieces, but I sometimes use Korg M01d for nintendo 3ds.
I also use Musescore and Audacity for making music; Musescore for brainstorming melodic ideas and Audacity for tweaking the wav file exported from LMMS.
However I plan to get FL studio or some other commercial DAW. I'm testing the trial versions of various DAWs while saving money for them. Do you have any tips which one to pick?
