SAILERIUS'S PROFILE

Something happened to me last night when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go. I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky. It was moving irregularly. Suddenly, there was intense light all around. And when I came to, I was home.

What do you think happened to me?

[Poll] Why You No Nominate For 2015 Misaos Yet, RMN?

author=kentona
It's been attempted in the past. Twice (I tried organizing it back when I had the energy to organize things). It ended...badly. It played out exactly as the Misaos did, in the sense people got all fed up over the results, but instead of directing their ire at some amorphous anonymous entity like 'Tumblr', it was directed at the judges themselves. Not unsurprisingly, there was little appetite to do it again.

Don't know why people are so butthurt about this. I don't agree with this list but nor do I agree with any other awards, for anything, ever.

I'd like to point out that THE OLD LIST IS MY FAULT AND WAS BASED ON A FLAWED SYSTEM. That is all.

E:
basically, what I am saying is that on paper the idea of a committee of judges to highlight and praise games/endeavours is a great one, but in practice things tend to go to shit. But that was back in the Time of Yore (2009) so maybe it won't be so bad if we tried again. I ain't organizing it though.
Please, please do not bring this back. I'm assuming that anyone advocating for it was not around at the time to experience how hostile the atmosphere was. It sounds like fun on paper but it made the community very venomous and unpleasant to be around.

RMN is different from other "choice awards" because it's passing judgment on the work of the community members, many of whom have put months if not years of hard work into their entries. When you have someone make a big official announcement about how your game is inferior to someone else's game, it's bound to cause hurt feelings at best or resentment at worst.

Perhaps another approach might be to have an event where users submit something like "my most memorable moment in an RMN game this year" and the submissions are collated into a series of articles or something, with a maximum of one entry per game. That way, there's no drama over rankings as anyone can submit something (provided the write up meets some quality and length screening). It's also more interesting than yet another "best of," I think.

EDIT: On the bright side, it can't possibly be worse than in 2010. Hopefully we've moved on from sending death threats to people.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

author=Dudesoft
I played them all, and am a huge fan. But there's just no set up or explanation on the in-between of MGSV and Portable Ops. Ground Zeries was just a mission if I recall. There wasn't much in the way of lead in. Unless I'm forgetting something critical, like Mother Base blowing up.
Did you not play Peace Walker? MGSV is a direct sequel to Peace Walker (it picks up less than a week after the ending, IIRC), so if you haven't played it, I can see how it would be confusing. Ground Zeroes also had some pretty big plot events despite its short length. What about the beginning did you find hard to follow?

Related: Still playing ungodly amounts of MGSV. Over 200 hours now. Please send help. I have never played a game this much before.

[Poll] Why You No Nominate For 2015 Misaos Yet, RMN?

I've been crunching on games so much this year that I didn't really notice much of what came out here admittedly. Is it just me or did 2015 not have any big "blockbuster" RM games? I wonder if it's because so many people have moved to commercial, and commercial games aren't eligible.

[Poll] A quick question about ads and RMN

author=kentona
2) what are you thoughts on RMN selling their adspace directly to someone like Degica for them to hawk things you might actually want, like DLC or engines or whatever?
3) what about RMN selling their adspace directly to people to hawk their games and projects??
I have an ad blocker on so I never notice the ads unless I visit from another device, but I will say the only thing about the ads that bothers me are the trashy ones featuring scantily-clad women trying to get you to sign up for F2P RPGs.

I think making the ads more relevant is a good idea. I imagine Degica products and the like will be relevant to most of the userbase here.

Kill la Kill is about Google.

craze have you watched anything besides those two anime

(pyscho-pass was pretty dang good)
no i've also watched magical witch punie-chan

i'm just not a fan of chibi and sweat drops and stuff. unless it's punie-chan or blue exorcist, one of which is incredibly over-the-top and the other only uses those devices sparingly. from what i've seen, KLK used that a ton. also i didn't like green laaggaaann which was by the same guy i think?
I tried to get into Kill La Kill, but someone failed to warn me that you have to find rape jokes every five minutes funny to appreciate it. I would probably not recommend it unless you think joking about raping the protagonist every episode is funny.

EDIT: Psycho-Pass is great tho

Star Citizen allegedly going bankrupt, development mired by turnover, racism, sexism

I find the fact that many employees individually and independently corroborated similar stories highly suspect. While it isn't definitive proof, where there's smoke there's fire and when this sort of thing happens, it turns out to be true more often than not.

I found the rebuttal to be more damning than the report itself. It reeked of desperation and an attempt to change the conversation through ad hominem attacks.

Hey there!

Hello and welcome!

I intentionally put "allegedly" in the thread title because none of the accusations have been proven but wow, the fact that he tried to deflect the accusations by doing an ad hominem hit piece on The Escapist really doesn't help his case much.

A game with a larger budget than Metal Gear Solid V is allegedly (by several employee reports) going bankrupt with virtually nothing to show for it. Also, this gem:

It was also alleged that Roberts' wife and Cloud Imperium Games Vice President of Marketing Sandi Gardiner enforced discriminatory hiring practices. CS1 reported that they were instructed to, first, check the education field on a prospective employee's resume. If too much time had passed, Gardiner reportedly informed people not to hire them, because "they may be over 40, which makes them a protected class and harder to fire." It was also claimed that Gardiner used race as a determining factor in selecting employees, allegedly once saying "We aren't hiring her. We aren't hiring a black girl."

Yikes.
