My brother and I created an RPG called 'The Sword and the Fish' back in 2006 and have been showered in riches and admiration ever since. Er, at least I got a comic published.

[RM2K] I'm old. Help me catch up on changes since 2006.

You can do that with EasyRPG. There might be a few glitches though, and if you had any .AVI files in your game, they won't play properly.
SIR, I AM IN YOUR DEBT.
In 10 minutes or so I ported my whole game onto my phone and made my first save. It runs like a CHARM and I'm absolutely stoked it works. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Another question, easily answered I think:
Any way to port a RPG2K game to an Android? I've dropped all the files on my phone, but the exe won't run. Inno Extract couldn't recognize the folder with the exe in it either.

Found no .lzh on my computer.
Compression agents to quickly make a self-running game would be ideal, and perhaps worth the price of the ticket alone. After all, I'm just getting the game to kiddos, nothing fancy. It would overcome problem #2 as well because, well, even though the install 'breaks' at the point mentioned, I just tried running the game itself REGARDLESS and lo and behold it seemed to work fine. As in, it installed everything before it claims to have broken.
I think maybe buying the Steam version might be the answer.

Hi community,
I created a game back in 2006 (The Sword and the Fish) and have just let it be for 15+ years. Now I'm dad age and I just updated it over the past year to give it a PG-rated face lift so my nephews and students can play it (it is currently pending approval, The Sword and the Fish 2020). A lot has changed and I have some basic questions.
1. I have the oldest school version of RM2K there is, the original Don Miguel one from the age of Napster. I've kept it alive through 4-5 laptops. I own Steam and could easily buy RPG Maker 2000 or what have you - except I am unlikely at this point to make another RPG, and would go with something newer.
Question: if I bought the Steam version from 2015, would it run Sword and the Fish? Would it sync with my pre-existing RTP and custom folders, etc?
I ask because...
2. Nowadays when I try to install my latest Sword and the Fish 2020 (I'm testing it before giving it to my students or nephews) the install no longer works. RTP installs. My font fixed seems to work. RM2000.exe gets an error about authenticity and the SHELL.dll file after freezing on the last file. It also appears to only install in the C drive else greta confusion.
Question: anyone know a work around for this?
3. Finally, are all these folders etc still necessary? Is there an easier way I get my game into the hands of the waiting kids? I just want to know that when I link them to, say, a compressed zip or something better (even a link to the game on here, say) that they have an easy time playing the game. They don't need the program, per se.
A big thank you in advance. I have had a few headaches finalizing this project after a year or content edits to trim it PG and I just want it done.
Merci!

RPG Maker 2000 Value! Is now out in English!
author=Zachary_BraunScumdropRPG Maker 2003 can take RPG Maker 2000 games and convert them into RPG Maker 2003 games, just by opening them. However, the conversion is one-way only, and permanent. Make a backup before trying.
3. I suppose there is no way to translate an RM2000 game into RM2K3?
Thanks, dude!
The idea that after all these years I could get SatF out there FOR REAL is very exciting to me. Of course I would have to do a MASSIVE OVERHAUL OF EXCESSIVELY STOLEN CONTENT first, but after they... eyyyyy!
RPG Maker 2000 Value! Is now out in English!
Hi everyone. I'm not up on 'the latest' as I could be.
I built "The Sword and the Fish" a long time ago and recently re-upped it onto this sweet site. I followed the link and noticed that the Humble Bundle page says this at the bottom:
Share Your Game:
Want to share your creation with the world? You can export your creation in a portable file that can be played on ANY Windows system! Plus, games made with RPG Maker 2003 can be sold as long as you have the appropriate rights and have followed the registration procedure. With some hard work you could become the next great indie game developer!
1. Why advertise this at the bottom of RM2000?
2. I suppose this cannot be done with an RM2000 game?
3. I suppose there is no way to translate an RM2000 game into RM2K3?
Sorry if any of this has been covered already.

I Am Back Like a Spring Chicken
Guys, I am back like a spring chicken and I don't even know if that makes sense. It just came to mind and had to be said for the good of the community.
It might be dumb to say 'back' when I was never actually here, but my game has long been a staple of the RPG Maker community from as far back as 2006. So I feel like a long-time veteran, you know? Anyway, I joined up to help spread the love and see what the RPG community is up to these days, boasting all sorts of new editors that far surpass the capabilities I was fiddling with. Sigh. Alas, progress!
For anyone who is yet to give it a spin, I made a really long and involved comedy game back in 2006 that boasts a ton of maps, enemies, items and jokes - with, as Darken recently perfectly summarized, "a really messy, overwhelming charm to it." Those who played through know that the game itself gets exponentially more solid as it progresses, which really helps keep the awe factor going. It generally follows 'Clifford' a scruffy bum who gets roped into being in a bad local bad around the same time he becomes destined to 'try' to fight Gwar, an ancient demon of evil lineage and blood type. You can read all about it at my RMN page here: THE SWORD AND THE FISH or for the even more hardcore, my Sword and the Fish website! Or you can read a 40-page comic about it too over at Imgur.
I hope anyone new to the game digs its retro appeal!
Delicious!

[RM2K] Porting RM2000 Games to Phone
Hello rmn!
Recently re-arrived.
I am wondering if anyone has any know-how on porting pre-existing games from RM2000 (or 2K3 I suppose) onto phones. Since many of these games are simple in their graphics, they would be ideal to have on the go - but beyond downloading it onto the phone and running it - which always breaks for me / I have trouble navigating properly - I have no comprehension of what to do.
Is this a programming issue? Or am I just inept at opening and loading my RM install via phone?
Go easy on me. I created my game, 'The Sword and the Fish' back in 2006 and I barely remember what a char_set is.
PS: Are char_sets still things?

The Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic
author=fooderauthor=Fidchelldang I wish I checked this sooner, i think the mediafire link is down now, thanks alot though for replying and what not.author=fooderHere you go: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ckvwd2x4zpwd9jb/The_Sword_and_the_Fish.zip
Does anybody have the sword and the fish?
It's my favorite rm game.
I don't know if the mediafire link worked, but I can provide a link for THE SWORD AND THE FISH that should definitely work. My own private one! Since I made the game!
I did a Google search for my own game out of sheer hubris and found your plea. Thus I joined up here, remembering rpgmaker.net from my 'golden age' era of RPG design, and offer this so link that you may continue to enjoy The Sword and the Fish into the next millennium:

Additionally, you can enjoy this 40-page Sword and the Fish comic I made a few years back (Assuming the link works). Delicious!
