Visual novels.
I agree, and have argued from that platform before. I often rail against overemphasis on long cutscenes or huge blocks of text in video games, or even the assumption that video games should ever be focused more on story than gameplay--but Visual Novels are a different story. They're not games, even though they use similar User Interfaces and have interactive elements. I often make the argument that people who do take such an interest in telling stories over making games should be making visual novels instead.
That said, I don't think it's like a picture book either. Visual Novels are their own medium, and can utilize things picture books can't, like animation, music, and voice acting--all of which make a pretty big difference.

Don't mind my saying but I don't understand why people love Bleach and Naruto so much.
Me neither. Anyone care to enlighten us?
1.) Johnny Yong Bosch
2.) Rock Lee and Shikamaru
Though actually I'm not that big a fan of either, but they're inoffensive to me so I have no problem watching them on Cartoon Network.

You mean like Ruby?
...There should be a better way to teach people how to use this...because reading a multiple page article on a boring looking website is no way to learn how to use Ruby.
Please god no Ruby.
If a help FAQ on Ruby that is multiple pages is all that it takes to scare you away, I wouldn't bother.
Plus, you basically don't get programming languages that are simpler than Ruby while still being capable of anything significant. Even BASIC isn't much simpler, especially modern iterations like VB.NET.
Spore
I've been playing for the last few hours, and my feelings are that it's nowhere near as bad as people are saying it is, but it could definitely do with a bit more gameplay depth to go with all the neat toys in it. But then I didn't see the old graphics and have never felt threatened by cartoony graphcis in the first place. Actually, I almost always prefer them.
Spore
Well this thread is a convenient place to see if that's the trend here, too, I suppose, once people start posting their impressions with the game when it releases....in a minute or so.
Spore
author=Feldschlacht IV link=topic=1860.msg29919#msg29919 date=1220805323This is the internet. Spore could come out and bake you free cake and people would still call it that because that's what they do. Plus, like I mentioned, a lot of the people saying that are the pirates who are playing it without any of the other users' user-generated content.
Word on the street is that Spore really isn't all that great.
"Overhyped piece of shit" is the callphrase for it. Which sucks because I wanted it really really bad.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it was overhyped quite a bit, and probably won't be the best game ever made. But I imagine a lot of what we're hearing about it now is just hype backlash. Which I could've told you a year ago was going to happen.
Spore
All right, according to the EA download manager, Spore releases in two hours (or at least, that's when EA will let me install it), so imagine my surprise that we don't have a topic dedicated to Spore.
So we all know Spore, yeah? You'd have to be living under a rock not to. It's EVO-meets-Civilization-meets-Sim-Life-meets-Electroplankton, from what we've been told, with a heavy emphasis on user generated content. It's the most (over)hyped game to ever exist.
Who's eagerly awaiting the release? Who's lost all interest? And who has already played it? I'll just play along and pretend you people who have played it live in Australia and didn't just download it off of a torrent =P.
I've heard that pirates aren't enjoying it as much as they had hoped, but then they also don't get other users' creations in their games, I hear, so they're missing out on a major aspect of the game it would seem. Anyone care to weigh in?

author=Natook link=topic=1822.msg29834#msg29834 date=1220747533Is this sarcasm? Because if not, that's an impressive job of entirely missing the point.
I would've liked Rurouni Kenshin more if the last 30 episodes weren't filler and death was more involved. What's a samurai who can't kill?
That said, if that's how you roll you might check out the Kenshin prequels (I think they're released as Samurai X over here). Much bloodier.

author=Holbert link=topic=1775.msg29637#msg29637 date=1220668584You need to keep in mind, Holbert, that the people who don't want the minimum wage to go up generally make more than minimum wage themselves. Arguing to them that they need to think about the people who don't is like arguing to people who have no health insurance that they should think about how the quality of medical service will go down for people that do if we switched over to socialized medicine. My grandfather constantly makes that complaint to me, and my only response is "Do you know how long it's been since I've seen a dentist?"
Well, then, you have two other choices:
1) Do nothing. Leave the minimum wage where it is, even though it's not nearly worth as much as it was because of inflation and price increases on food, gas and housing.
2) Get rid of the minimum wage entirely. Free market, maybe! $3.00 an hour Wal-Mart wages!
Yeah, those two don't sound good either.

I'm not asking for $5000 -- I'm asking for $5, $10, whatever.
I guess you can spend it on cheeseburgers, though.
Also, I am not giving money to American politicians.
