Oh, really? What, exactly, makes books a higher art form than movies?

Hahah you took the bait!

Aside from that your example is pretty stupid because you could just as well compare East of Eden to Debbie Does Dallas!

Which is to say: dinosaurs.

Give me a break did you even read my post? I didn't dismiss Dark Knight as an action movie - I dismissed it as an action movie that follows the conventions of a Hollywood action movie. There is a distinction!
Granted, but you brought up the High Art/Low Art divide as if it supported your point.

Even the music isn't that good. It's all rehashes of the first one's soundtrack, which really only had a few good tracks (like "Final destination," "Beat the angel," and "Walking on Tethe'alla"). There's maybe only one or two good tracks out of the entire ToS2 soundtrack. Sakuraba was slacking again on this one. <.<
I haven't been a fan of Sakuraba's music for some time, but the best track on the ToS soundtrack by far was that remix of Fighting of the Spirit. I love that one.

So yeah, I got one of these backloggery thingies. It seemed sort of interesting.

So what, are you supposed to put just the games you haven't finished in there to keep track of what you need to go back and play, or are you supposed to put in your whole collection, or what? I've just done the unfinished ones for now.

Well, if he has a firewall (like Windows' built-in one) he'll have to poke a hole in it, but I can't help you there, since I've been on a router for about ten years. Google will help.

These sorts of things are the difference between snobbish high art and thrilling pop art.
That's a distinction that doesn't exist in most post-modernist thinking.

From a modernist perspective, there's a very clear delineation about what is and isn't art ("high art" if you prefer, but no one is fooled into thinking that "high art" isn't just their way of saying "real art"), and that's basically determined by consensus of the artistic community, and certain media get entirely excluded by the same committee....but the people who still think that way are the same sorts of people who think they're going to be able to maintain a business model involving digital property based on scarcity economics for more than a few years. Which is to say: dinosaurs.

I'm not supporting the Dark Knight as some amazing piece of art, but the medium and the genre have nothing to do with that.

It should work fine without any special settings. When it says you have to forward your router, it's just because if something is sent to an IP address, it'll go directly to the router if one's connected, rather than any of the computers on the network.

Chewy--in regard to your question:

Yeah, there's still room. If everyone who's expressed interest this week actually does join, it's going to be about as many as I can handle. Get me a character sheet by Wednesday or Thursday, though I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to work everyone in just yet.

So yeah, everyone, joining is fine, but make sure you've read the megapost and try to see if you can't get Ventrilo working on your computer since we're going to try to switch to that by Friday. If you can get me your character concepts before you send me the character sheet, it'll help me figure out when to work you in.

Also, keep in mind that for this first session for the newcomers, you're probably going to be sitting on the sidelines for a portion of the session while I work up to a good intro point for you.

With this sudden surge of interest, I'm going to have to make this a first come, first serve thing. I can't handle more than seven or eight players, so I'm going to have to start turning people away after I get my eighth.

And anyone who gets me a sheet after tomorrow will have to wait until next week at the earliest. Man, I can't believe it's already almost time for another session.

Well enough, but I wasn't totally satisfied. VOIP is a definite necessity and I still need to get used to the new system. The players said they enjoyed it, but I feel like I could've done better.

I need to work out a better reference system, too. I didn't have Power Cards printed out for all the PCs and I really should have.

I've been meaning to toss up a recap, but I've been tired and busy, so I haven't gotten to it yet.

The Dark Knight

The thing that it comes down to for me is that while Heath gave a great performance, it felt like someone was playing the Joker. With the one on the Animated Series, it felt like it was the Joker.

Maybe this comes down to an issue with the mediums (I am an admitted animation addict), or maybe it's just because for the last sixteen years or so, Mark Hamill has voiced the Joker in every credible thing where you can hear the Joker's voice, but that's the thing. Hamill's role is iconic for me, Ledger's role was just excellent.

Go ahead. The more the merrier. As long as we're under eight people. If we ever get to that point I might have to start turning people away.

Firefox

For the record, pages do load faster in Firefox and Opera than Internet Explorer, sometimes significantly so. But it's way more noticeable on low-end computers. At work I've showed some of the users how to install and use Firefox, and their performance increase is highly noticeable.
