About the ending:It reminded me a lot of Darren Aronofsky's movie "The Fountain". Actually there are a few similarities with the terminal illness and seeking the the tree of life. Was that an inspiration? If so, good movie to be inspired by. I always thought it was underrated.
Entirely correct. Very good movie and as you guessed the main inspiration for the story.

So is this called Rust and Blood, or Blood and Rust?
That is a secret, and not at all something I myself forgot during the development of the game.
Fire Kingdom
Just wanted to drop by and thank you for the entertainment that the comments gave me. Also, I just bumped the gamepage for you, I bet you like that, you little bumpslut. Take that bump, baby. And swallow it.
Rust and Blood Review
Thank you! I removed all text that would make you think there are several recipe books, along with the tabs in inventory. I'll upload new screenshots and remove the ones that has thirst bar and stuff at a later date, too.
Rust and Blood Review
Thank you for your thoughts. Really too bad that the audio didn't record for the video, I would have loved to check it out. I'll address a couple of your thoughts:
I actually at first had already added thirst mechanics and even some recipes that you needed into the game (along with now unused graphics), but after having a friend playtest the game and telling me it was too hard, I decided to remove it and simplify it by just having hunger.
I also did indeed plan to have more recipe books initially, for example various grenades that you could make, but there aren't enough enemies to warrant this, I felt. Removing the thirst recipes also kinda removed the need for more recipe books, so there's that, too. I should probably remove the recipe books tab in the inventory (and the misleading text).
I finished the game a bit earlier since there is currently a storm going on here (and will be for the next few days) which is why I needed to finish it before it hit (I could be without electricity at any time).
So I finished it a bit early as a precaution.

I try to keep scripts that take up mucho power out of the game. For example, I removed a lighting script (Kha's script, I believe it was) and instead use pictures and other stuff to make lighting. Other than that, I try to keep events and stuff that runs as parallel processes to a minimum. Basically keep things running to a minimum while still trying to keep the standard as high as possible.
I've had alot of people tell me my games run slowly before, despite this.

Sure, if your contributions are significant, I wouldn't mind. General thoughts on what could be improved are also welcome (granted it's doable before the end of the contest).
Rust and Blood
Probably lucky I finished this game early, because it seems there's a bigass storm coming here so I'm guessing I most likely won't have power all of the time the next days. Phew!
Thanks, and good luck to both of us in the contest.

This game is magnificent. If someone would like to know, it costs less hunger to go the route on the left side than the right side.
It's a really cool game where you have to manage your resources to survive in a hostile environment. I found it hard near the end though trying to find those two boxes. Still need to finish, but the art style is so striking and the gameplay is solid. Nice entry, man. Guaranteed prize-winner here. :)
Thanks, and good luck to both of us in the contest.
It's done.
Keep going forward in door 801. And yeah food is pretty scarce but spend a couple of days gathering food from all three fridges that are close to the bed and you should be fine. Maybe I should change those fridges to contain more food?
Edit: Done. New download got some more food in it. Downloading and moving the old save should be no problem.
