Hi I do art mostly but also do games.
Please read my comic, Patchwork and Lace. It's about a Lovecraftian Disney Princess dark mage and her superpowered undead partner hunting monsters and being bad at communication.

Search
Are there any non-garbage free music sites other than Incompetech?
By "non-garbage" I mean "Has a search option with a level of granularity above Completely Useless."* I've been cruising sites all day and so far they all share the same "OK pick a genre THAT'S ALL YOU SHOULD NEED HAVE FUN CLICKING A MILLION DIFFERENT TITLES WITH NO FURTHER DETAIL, ASSHOLE!"
Jamendo used to be pretty fabulous for this before they decided user friendliness is an abomination unto the Lord.
So, does anyone know of a diamond in the rough, or am I stuck with further plodding through the unforgiving desert of "Oh, OK, it's another piano solo and/or generic Epic Movie piece and exactly not what I'm looking for"?
PS Thank you for reading my enraged rambling.
*I would also add "Is not overrun by horrific art noise that nobody wants to listen to" but I'm not sure that's possible.

Phantom mailbox message (so spooooooky!)
EDIT: NEVERMIND, UNITY JUST TOLD ME HOW TO FIX IT. BUSTING MAKES HER FEEL GOOD.
Give a time estimate on game (and other?) submissions form
Since the "guys my game hasn't shown up yet!" topics are pretty common, I think it'd be a good idea to add something to the form (probably right before the submit button) giving them an idea of how long they'll have to wait and why.
Something like "Our game pages are hand checked by human volunteers, so it can take up to a week or more for a page to be approved. Thank you for your patience!"
It'd presumably cut down on stress for the submitters as well. And we could make fun of people who clearly didn't read the form :V

Finding Motivation
I keep seeing folks "joke" about never finishing things (or just eternal procrastination), so here's some great advice on why that happens and how to fix it:
It comes from a filmmaking perspective, but applies to p. much any endeavor.

"Rediscovering Mystery"- designing games with secrets and exploration in mind
So here's a minidoc:
Having grown up in the Nintendo Power generation, I'm pretty interested in this stuff, and agree to an extent that it's a little disappointing that the rise of the internet has led to kind of the death of mystery in games.
On the other hand, it's neat to see devs designing games with the knowledge that players will strip the code bare, and adding details that way. (The best known example I think is Undertale and the WD Gaster stuff.)
So, what are y'all's thoughts on the video, and the subject of mystery and secrets in games? Do you work to put in something interesting for explorers? Any ideas about the changing role of secrets and mysteries in the internet age? Discuss!

[RMVX ACE] Scripts for time-based and button-mash inputs?
OK disclaimer: Yeah, I am designing a game that's kind of QTE-ish. I don't need to hear how much QTEs suck, because I already hate them myself. I assure you I have kind of an idea what I am doing.
ANYWAY.
I'm looking for scripts or guides to make the following:
1) A button-mashing event where the player has to press something repeatedly and really quickly, a la the "kill yourself" event in the Consuming Shadow.
2) A timed dialog choice where if the player waits too long, the highlighted choice is automatically selected.
Do such exist?

Suggestion: Ignorable threads
author=InfectionFiles
I'm just glad to not have to see it anymore. And I known I could "ignore it" but it gets harder and harder.
Makes me think we need a ignore feature for topics/threads. Would work for mafia too.
This would be a good feature IMO.
