If you downloaded before this message your version is not broken, it still is possible to finish the game, but it has some bugs that make the game less enjoyable.
Given the fact this is a short game I recommend redownloading.

Actually don't download anything yet good people of RMN , ESBY is adding a slick new tile that improves the game by 115%.
Also our new download will be RTP independent because you are on a website dedicated to all RPG Maker engines, you have no excuses not to already have all RTPs for all engines already installed on your machine. :)

ALRIGHT WE'RE ABOUT TO UPLOAD.
The naysayers have been talking shit about us but they were wrong.
We have a complete game.
Hopefully we make it on time :'(
EDIT: THANK YOU MANUAL DAYLIGHT SAVING SETTINGS OF RMN FOR REMOVING LIKE 10 YEARS OFF MY LIFE IN STRESS WHEN WE STILL HAD AN HOUR!

Awesome. To be fair, it's not the most straightforward thing to use pictures if you've never done it before. Also stuff like forgetting to put the switch, even the best of us do that sometimes.
Anyways, good to hear it works, have fun!

Here I made an example:
https://mega.nz/#!5JQQXTyY!kbrO9Ic-gFXRRMlzQ_YYhoiVv0dM-aIWAAh6V1PEW7Y
This is using the common event method, hopefully you can find what's missing.
I wasn't sure which version of 2003 you had so I made it a tsukuru.

Definitely make sure that you have the "wait" option in your move picture command would be my first guess.
[RM2K3] Editing battle window
Possible but only with the unofficial version (so Rpg Maker Tsukuru 2003 1.08a not Maker from steam or the website 1.1+).
Check out DynRPG, if you know C++ it's super easy to use, it's divided in static callbacks and a module containing game objects, it's pretty simple to use.
Though I don't think you could do what you are trying to do with cherry's version though from looking at the API (unless you wanna create a custom scene somehow). I know PepsiOtaku has a version with more functionality accessible.
Maybe there's a simple hacky solution for your problem :D
Let's wait for more answers.

^^^ Honestly I would've suggested that from the get go, but I thought a on map event might be better while you don't have full mastery of the eventing.
But yea common event would be the way to go.
EDIT: also you might want to do an erase event in the map event at the end or else the thing will keep showing up over and over.
By erasing the event you ensure that it runs and then disappears while you are on the map.
When you erase an event on a map and leave the map, the event is restored and will be back when you return on the map.
