From what I remember, that only happens when you get a certain mushroom. The SMB2 mushroom. Maybe they resprited that mushroom to look like the SMB3 one, but don't expect that trick to work on every SMBX game.

Hey Jack, Just finished Watching Part 2 now, but just a tip...
When you reach a world with SMB2 Mushrooms, you can do a little trick I discovered...

1. Get a powerup of your choice(Likely Hammer, or Tankooni Suit)
2. Collect the mushroom, it will duplicate your current item into the dropbox
3. Drop it and switch to Luigi(Make sure he gets it!)
4.Stock him up, whenever you want that power-up, switch

Okay, decided I was gonna start Let's Playing today and decided I was going to use this as my first attempt at a Let's Play, keep in mind I've never so much as touched an LP in my life... God help me
