SRW2: Yoshi's Archipelago
author=AnimebryanSpoilers man! Geez, can't you see the sprite up above was blacked out? Now I don't even want to fucking play this thing.
2 - What made you change {REDACTED}?
;)
"Sturgeon's Law, Taste and RPG Maker"
author=kentonaNo, I'm still cool. Look.
old.

author=SoozNo, but fair points. I feel like I have a pretty good sense of game design and I notice every little thing. A sprite facing the wrong way, or an image that doesn't line up, and it really turns me off. I have a hard time looking past little issues like that and seeing the fun inside. It's hard for me to just enjoy the ride because I'm analyzing every little detail. It's like a curse for becoming a game dev, you start to notice things you probably wouldn't have before. "That move route command was sloppy"
The gist of what I'm trying to say is, "I work for McDonalds."
Part of it too, is that I don't like wasting my time any more. When I was young I didn't care, but now I'm very picky about what games I play.
Final Fantasy 1 was the first RPG I remember ever playing, and it would be the series with the most games I've played. It's like referencing McDonalds, there's lots of fast food restaurants out there but everybody knows MickyD's.
author=SgtMettoolSo basically I'm part of the problem and I didn't even know it? haha
It basically says that elitist gamer culture ruined video games.
Granted, this piece was written five years ago and this very culture that held so much sway in the industry has since been blown wide open and continues to be slowly dis-empowered as we speak.
Super Mario Bros. X
We should hold an event where we make levels in that new version. It sounds dope.
Hali? Get on that.

RPG Maker 28th Birthday
Pokémon RMN Version
That could be something for a sequel. Use your same save file and it unlocks a new region. But yeah, one step at a time.
What are you thinking about right now?
The problem I have with the steamed hams meme is that after you watch a few of them it gets real old beyond the initial laughter of what is being mashed up. Most of them are 6-8 minutes long when it's really only good for a few seconds. Some have good moments spread out but most of the time it's like 'yes, I know what is going to happen' and I can just envision what the rest of it will look like without having to sit through the whole video. But maybe I'm not a meme-loving person.
That initial laugh is good though. I liked the guitar hero one, because I'm big into that game.

I don't know if it's because of how you took the screenshots or what, but that font is some major issues.
I have nothing else to complain about, it all looks pretty good.

"Sturgeon's Law, Taste and RPG Maker"
Interesting article. I can't say I fully grasp everything said in it though haha My low-brow mind kind of glossed over most of what was said because of the words used. Me Hulk, me no understand fancy word play.
But basically the article is saying "RPG Maker games can be really original so stop being such a hipster art critic with hoity-toity tastes"? Then provides a few examples.
I'm afraid I probably fall in that group of people who think 90% is crap, instead of it being average. Ironically, when I first started in RMing(2002) I did think most everything was actually really cool! It was all exciting and I would have played ANYTHING. But as time went on, being immersed in all the games that showed up on this site(because really I didn't visit any others), my tastes started to change. I can't stand RTP or anything on the default setting, I can't stand "teenagers first RPG", and I need something really unique and top of the line to even be interested in reading the game page.
I try not to be a dick about it though so I just don't post anymore. What have I become? *looks down at hands*

SRW2: Yoshi's Archipelago
The stars unlock things, so while maybe not required to see all the levels, as gamers we needed to collect them to find out what's in that pipe that requires 10 stars. Ya know? And in order to do that we spent more time than I would have preferred wandering around a few levels.
There is a probably bit of smbx fatigue, although it's been months since I played any. But in all the previous RMNx games they seemed to be full of levels with wacky ideas. The mega man levels, the classic art themed level with the squares, kentona's level with a giant thing chasing you. My fucking off of the wall level ideas haha That is what has always appealed to me since the beginning of the smbx era. Something new and interesting.
But, I might be rushing to judgement here. We only played about a dozen levels? How many is there in total?
If you showed this to someone who never played any smbx games and likes Mario, it would rock their socks off. It's well crafted and well balanced, kudos, but I've always had different tastes. I wouldn't worry too much about what I think, I just wanted to share my thoughts.
Deckiller, sure thing. Ask and ye shall receive.
Are there any levels that have unique concepts beyond basic running and jumping? Any standouts that might appeal to my tastes?
Oh, does anybody have a save file with the entire game unlocked? That might be a good idea, so we can skip levels that don't appeal or hold us up because we can't fucking beat them. I've always hated ghost houses haha.
And one thing I'm remembering, in that underwater level where the sea of ghosts phase in and out. I felt like the change happened too quickly, and there wasn't enough space between the ghosts. That section was fucking hell to get through. There was a period of like a full minute where we didn't make any progress at all. We were just struggling to stay alive and keep our yoshis. It's a good concept but was too constricting.
