Inspiration and Work Ethic

^ /agree

Okay folks, I am unquestionably the goddamn poster child for lack of inspiration and work ethic. I technically started my game in QBasic in the mid-90s, then it went to rm2k, then to rm2k3, then to RMXP, and now possibly to RMVX, and you know what? After 8 years of development I have JACK SHIT to show for it except a shitty demo that I released in like 2002.

So next time you're feeling unmotivated, just count your lucky stars that you're not me. :P

Zephyr Dreams VX, full demo

Looking pretty good so far, Flik. Just a couple of things I noticed:

There are quite a few spelling/grammar/tense errors. But then, this is a demo, so I'm not expecting you to have it perfect yet.

Your sepia tint for what appears to be flashbacks or narrative sequences would look much better if you tinted the screen before showing it.

The world map is awfully big for the actual amount of stuff in it.

Likewise with the castle. Your maps are pretty huge.

Other than that, I like what I've played thus far. The little touches in the menu are nice, Tack's interactions with the NPCs are good, and it's shaping up nicely. Good work!

Some other changes:

They've added two conditions to event pages that RMXP didn't have: Item being held in inventory, or actor being in the party.

There's no longer a hue slider when selecting an event graphic.

There are only 5 speeds for movement frequency now instead of 6.

You can once again set an event to be "below hero", "same level as hero" or "above hero". Subsequently, there is no longer an "always on top" option.

The options setting of the tools menu no longer has a default option for transparent colour. You can change it to anything you like.

A number of options have been added for actors. The first is dual wielding. I have no idea what the others are. There is no longer a maximum level setting.

You can set individual names for skillsets based on class again.

There are some slight changes to skill scopes. The new list, as far as I could tell from testing, is as follows:

None
Single enemy
All enemies
Single enemy, 2 hits
Random enemy
Random enemy, 2 hits
Random enemy, 3 hits
Single ally
All allies
One ally (HP 0)
All allies (HP 0)
The user

Skills have some other new options but I can't figure out what they do. You can also set up a usage message again, like you could in rm2k.

Two enemy action conditions have been added: MP and state. You can no longer select multiple conditions for an action.

Enemies can now drop two items.

States have more options in restrictions, but I don't know what they are.

You can set two animation graphics for a single animation.

There is no longer a "play miss" button.

There is no longer a tileset tab.

I'm playing around with event commands and trying to figure out what's new. The commands are now split up more into categories apparently, so I'll list them in groups. (Although I can't read Japanese so I'll number them)

Trihan's impressions:

I love how you can change tileset passability directly from the map editor now, that'll speed things up a lot when testing.

Only having to mess around in one layer is more convenient, but I'm not entirely sure how it works yet. We shall see.

There appear to be some automatic event generating options when right clicking a map, but the only one that seems to really do anything right now is teleport.

The layout of options and such seems to be much more streamlined than RMXP. I can't read the captions, but things are subdivided more than before, which should make it easier to navigate.

System scripts look a lot tighter.

Animations look nice.

I can't bloody well figure out how they made that one skill hit three times.

Edit: Turns out the other event options weren't working because the demo has an event limit. There's teleport, door, treasure chest and inn. Handy.

Master of the Wind

You need to hurry up and release arc IV.

MMORPGs

Ragnarok Online for DS? My life is officially over.

And you are...? (THE INTRODUCTION THREAD)

My name's John Clifford and I'm a 22 year old male from Elgin in the northeast of Scotland. I've been engaged to a 27 year old American woman called Melissa who I met on Yahoo Messenger for about 3 years now. I have a GSVQ in computing and am currently working for Carlton Bingo mainly as a cashier/caller, but I do other stuff too. I have a work blog at http://shakeyourballs.blogspot.com

My interests are game making, composing music, drawing, listening to music, MMORPGs, reading, writing, horse riding and hanging around with friends, although I don't really have all that many of them these days.

I stumbled upon the community in around 2001, when my friend (who isn't a friend any more for reasons I won't go into) and I were looking for a program that would let us make an RPG we'd been brainstorming. It actually started life as a QBasic project called Dark Legend. After a while we refined the characters and story and called it Tundra instead. It was still incredibly cliche, but we didn't realise that at the time.

Anyway, I found rm2k while looking for decent programs and joined Don's boards. I couldn't think of a username, but I was kind of a fan of Dragonball Z at the time and was reading an article about the fictional sequel Dragonball AF in which a new character was mentioned called Trihan. I thought it sounded pretty cool, so I adopted it as my online alias and have been using it ever since.

I'm also a total Nintendo fanboy.

Smash Brothers

I usually play as Pikachu or Marth, while my friend Jamie always used Kirby. I don't think I'd ever play in a tournament.
