EDIT: Also, are you sure your game is one of the top sold games with RPG Maker tag on Steam. Because I just searched Top Sellers with RPGMaker tag, and I don't find any of your games on that list (they're Save your Mother and Stranger of the Power, right?): http://store.steampowered.com/tags/en/RPGMaker/#p=1&tab=TopSellers

Yeah, it's on 3rd page on top sellers in that small list or in 2nd page in "show all"

EDIT: Ah, direct link don't work. But it's on third page of top sellers in the link you gave.
Haters gonna hate. As far as I'm concerned, you're a member of the RMN family and my happiness for you isn't conditional on how much you've contributed to the site.

I'm super happy for you! ^.^ Congrats, Tuomo! <3

I've heard Alice is a pretty cool protagonist, so I'll probably try the game out when/if I get time and money~

I see Strangers on page 8 and Save your Mother on page 10, but congrats anyways!
Forgive me if this seems ignorant, but wouldn't it make more sense to talk about milestones like these as a blog post on the game's page? As it is, people seeing the Statuses don't know what the game is, and people looking at the game page won't know of these accomplishments you've been posting about. Plus, I think game blogs, or at least comments on them, raise the game within this site's discovery algorithms, if that means anything to you.
Also might not hurt to either post about it or update the description on the Steam page? I don't really know how that works.

Oh, thanks, but I don't know what metric you used because Save Your Mother has deffinettly sold more than Strangers.

I think the reason some people are a bit annoyed by this status is that it was preceded by such Tuomo statues as:

"Hello to all my fans in Africa!! Multiple people bought Save Your Mother in South Africa alone!"

"My game has been sold and bought in nearly every country in the world now."

...And the one from just a few days ago, "So, a Steam curator reviewed my game and said in it 'greatest work of literature since undertale.'"

As for why these are statuses and not blog posts, this brings up an interesting point. Commercial Steam success seems to not equal RMN success, at least in Tuomo's case. On RMN, Save Your Mother has only seven subscribers and one middling review, and having bought and played the game myself, I didn't find that it held up against many of the free games on this site, which may be a factor in its lack of popularity here: In a site with a high amount of fellow game creators, a game that sells well on steam but doesn't stand up in terms of the quality that generally comes with the RPGs that do well on this site (not to mention you cannot sample the game without a purchase) means that people on RMN generally won't be fans.

I don't mean this in any way to take away from Tuomo's commercial success. No, far from it, congratulations are in order here for a game selling well. However, I think this also speaks to the fact that talented developers on RMN could possibly find more exposure and success by putting their games on Steam as well as on this site. Granted, I'm sure Tuomo's success involved a fair degree of marketing of some sort, but I must admit that I'm considering Steam as a future avenue for games myself just to see how well it could go.

I don't know, man. This is what I see on page 3 on my side, and your game's not there: https://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/2613/locker/RPGMaker.png

Maybe the top sellers' actually region-locked. If that's true, then it's probably only popular in your region and not worldwide.

No, I'm talking about Global Top Sellers.

If you look at Big Global top sellers, both Save Your Mother and Strangers of the Power are in Global top sellers list.

You can also use RPGMaker tag and both show up.

I wholly get that different developers have different goals, which in Tuomo's case seems to be heavily weighted towards turning a profit. But considering he joined this community by complaining that people weren't paying attention to his game and strong-arming it to the front page I'm less worried about how much he embellishes himself, and more worried that it might enable others to act the same way.

Because every topic or status he has posted -has- gotten us to pay attention to him, and it's been a cycle for months now. Like, I'm sorry, but I don't think Tuomo is here for feedback or to improve himself as a developer. I feel like he's just here to sell things and that's why I think people are getting frustrated.

I really am not trying to be mean here. I'm glad that Tuomo is so passionate about what he does, even if his goals are completely different than most of ours. But we're really seeing how the two ideals clash lately and it's frustrating.

I usually don't get heated by these kinds of things, but I'm worried it's going to further hurt the outlook of commercial games on this site.

lol you got me. jealous as fuq

On another note, I can't believe this is a real status. It only reinforces the notion that you have a serious lack of self-awareness when it comes to bragging about your own creative achievements, "fan-base", and social media followers.

Pretty much this.

There's another person I can think of who thrives on cycles of attention, no matter at what cost or how outrageously inaccurate everything he tweets is, lol.

IMO, games like this just reinforce certain stereotypes about RPGMaker on Steam. And shamelessly bragging about it is understandably irritating to some people here.

This is a valid way to look at this. While I don't want to shame anyone for making statuses congratulating themselves for their accomplishments every once in a while, if that's all you do, then you're not really contributing to the community or helping other developers.

I wholeheartedly agree that we should approach this attitude with caution. Perhaps my own interest in Steam is some sort of misplaced hope that with all the work I put into games, maybe I could be doing better for both my games and myself, and perhaps that's partially driven by all of Tuomo's claims of Steam success. It's something to think about for sure.
It's on the middle of the third page. Of five pages. I'm not sure how you could reasonably call that one of the "top" games.

"RPGMaker" is the main tag used, not "RPG Maker". When searching for that, you're on page 5 of 12, which doesn't sound half bad, until you look at what's beneath it. For reference, using that tag, Ara Fell is the 31st top selling game. Strangers of the Power is 111th and Save Your Mother is 119th.

What is your goal here, Toumo?
being proud of your accomplishments and sharing that and anticipating positivity in return is an anathema to me and my generation

I mean I'm not averse to sharing one's accomplishments, but when you go into a community and never interact other than to talk yourself up... that's not really being part of a community, that's just picking an audience to hear your list of accomplishments. Which is where the pushback is coming from, not some idea that nobody's allowed to be happy about their success.
I am just softening you guys up so that in 6 months when I "pull a Tuomo" with my own game on Steam you guys aren't so up in arms and put off about it.

Thats certainly another part of it, for me anyway. I haven't played the game, but it certainly looks like every other high schoolers attempt at hitting it big with RTP from the screen shots. As someone who is making something that contains entirely original, well everything (except story hyuck hyuck) whenever I tell people who arent in the community that im making something in RPG Maker this is the stuff they IMMEDIATELY assume im making.

Obviously there is an audience for games that look like this but how big can it really be?
