Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!
Currently working on giving characters in Blackmoon Prophecy a bit more of an identity of their own. This is Vera. For the longest time, she was just a recoloured Rydia. I wanted to make her look at least a little more unique.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!
Just finishing up a part in Blackmoon Prophecy where six of the main characters are forced into a state of sleep, and you have to guide them through strange nightmare-like scenarios. Overall, it took me twelve minutes to clear on a test play, which isn't too bad.

Wait, why is Amy inflicted with Sleep even though she's technically dead?
She had it before she died. For some reason it doesn't clear in the DBS when they die.
Tips on Making Good Forests
My forests usually always look lousy, so I know where you are coming from.
HOWEVER... I find that Tales of Phantasia forest tiles are easy to use and yield awesome results. If you can get those tiles scaled or whatever to work with VX (I don't know since I've never used it) then go for it.
This is from rm2k3, but whatever. It's still ToP tiles. I made it with zero direction and no idea where I was going with any of it. Random tiling, I guess. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-03RF8uWtc0
The key, I find, is making sure that the tiles you are using have lots of vegetation and tons of variety in terms of grasses, flowers, rocks, whatever. If you go into a forest in real life, you're going to see tons of variety. Try to mimic that by throwing lots of variety into your map. Don't have lots of boring ground tiles with nothing on them.

A question in terms of fan games.

Making a fangame is just a tribute, in most cases. Good series have a rich background, history, folklore, and it's fun to use the ideas of that "universe" to make your own interpretation of it. It's true there are many bad fangames, but it's not bad because it's based off something else. It's bad because that person is probablly a terrible game maker and whatever game they make will be bad.
Bingo, that's why I'm working on one that... I swear I'll finish one of these days.
I find, as someone who is working on a fangame, that it's also a neat way for the creator to relive their own fond memories of whatever their game is based on. Mine is based on the 8 bit and 16 bit Final Fantasy games, and I label my fangame as a tribute to them. Almost everything in it is inspired by something that I'm nostalgic over. I just run with that and hope that, hey, somebody else will maybe feel the same nostalgia.
Fangames aren't for broad audiences, so it really is a little silly for one who does not like fangames to go and condemn one, regardless of the quality of it. I say just leave fangame makers to do their own thing, which is aiming to please the very distinct crowd of people who enjoy playing fangames.

This is probably abandoned, based on the single screenshot and apparent lack of progress...oh well.
No sir! Alive and well again as of November 1, 2010. I'm making lots of progress on the game and it is now about 10 hours long or so.
Affilitiation?
Affilitiation?
I couldn't find an answer anywhere on the site and I have no idea if this site supports private messaging so I couldn't ask WIP that way so..
Yeah, does RMN do affiliations with other sites or anything like that?

Lost Chapters IV
Personally, coming from my standpoint as a story teller, I think the inclusion of the "Gorlasks" as a supernatural antagonists weakens the plot. Also the name Gorlasks is pretty silly. I think your story would be much stronger thematically if the threat to the World Trees was human in nature, since reading through your creation myth (congratulations on having a creation myth that was not so generic I literally couldn't force myself to read it) it seems the underlying seed of thought is the idea that humans endanger the world with their very existence. So I think your plot would be stronger if the threat to the World Trees was humans trying to exploit/destroy them all along. As I said, there will be twists. Don't worry about the Gorlask threat seeming a bit dull or boring. There is much more to it than that. I just can't reveal it or I'd be giving away quite a lot of storyline information.
If you are going to include Neville and Wolfang in the same party as Lucas and Aiden in a way that is anything other than JRPG CLICHE YAWN, that is going to take some serious writing chops. FF6 is cool and all but I have a problem with the king of a country just jumping up to join some group of adventurers with just a few message boxes worth of justification, and same goes for the CEO of a corporation or the Emperor of a nation. In fact, it's going to take some really good writing to make your second two main characters plausible protagonists at all.Don't worry. View Lucas as Aiden as the two protagonists. Neville and the Emperor will never join the party, but they will have very important roles.
his is really cool in theory. In practice, however...I would, but I don't like XP's resolution since I'm too old school.. Plus I'd get nowhere with Ruby and I've made serious efforts to learn it in the past but I just can't grasp it.
1. How exactly will this prevent players with one head from wearing five helmets, wielding five weapons, wearing five pants, etcetera, if the letters are not associated with a type?
2. I would strongly advise you uppgrade to RMVX already, it's perfect for this kind of thing as well as your Action system and would make your life much easier while developing this game.
As for your screenshots, well, it looks like a really generic RM2k3 game. With Alex. There's nothing wrong with your mapping. I'd give it a 7/10. But it is not exactly eye-catching. It is by far the weakest part of this presentation and I hope it does not hold your game back from getting the attention it deserves.Yeah, I've barely even started. The inside of tree will hopefully look much more interesting.
How is this for comparison?

Lost Chapters IV
That's definitely where I'm headed with this and I'm glad you caught on.
I'm hoping to include LOTS of optional dungeons and locations to visit which will all reward the player with goodies for increasing stats if they manage to clear them or at least explore most of them.
Obtaining essence items will be essential. Say the player reaches level 99 with all characters but never uses a single essence item. Well, they would be absolutely slaughtered.
