[RGSS] Need to reference map database name, not map display name.
Hey guys. Here's a small snippet from a script I'm using that calls the map's display name and writes it on the screen.
Script in question: http://pastebin.com/uwLJzta3
This is Moghunter's save/load screen script, which writes your location on the save screen. The script draws it from the map's display name, but I want it to use a map's database name in the map tree. I want it to use the map name in the database/map tree (so just the actual map name itself). Anyone know what I need to change in the script to make that happen?

[VX Ace] Triple Triad game based on RMN games?
This was just a little idea I had that I think, if enough people supported it, would be pretty interesting! Plus it wouldn't take long to churn out with the proper level of interest/support from members.
I was thinking of Triple Triad and the script that perfectly emulates it VX Ace (which a few Final Fantasy fangames make good use of), and I was thinking that it could be interesting if a fun little game was created around RMN that uses the Triple Triad script. All cards would be notable heroes, monsters, or villains from RMN's vast backlog of games. Of course, people would volunteer their game's characters/enemies to be featured. The game board, back of the cards, etc. would all be RMN themed. Heck, we could even get one of our fine composers to do the (very few) music tracks that the game would use.
Some small shell of a game could maybe be constructed around the card game if that would drum up more interest. If so, maybe some kind of tournament where the NPCs you play against are RMN members? There could/would maybe be some kind of hokey plot that involves saving RMN and that, logically, only winning a card game can save the day. I suppose, ultimately, we'd have to take down kentona and his terribly fearful deck!
What do you guys think?

[RMXP] The biggest, blackest dick. That's how I want to die. (Cards Against Humanity/Pretend You're Xyzzy)

Anyone here play Cards Against Humanity? Specifically the online clone, Pretend You're Xyzzy?
RMN has a lot of sick people, so I figured I'd ask! I'm an avid player of both the physical boxed game and the online clone. I play with family/friends with the physical copy, but only strangers online. I thought it would be cool to see if anyone from RMN plays, thereby removing the aspect of only playing with strangers!
We could have scheduled RMN games if anyone's up for it, and maybe even make an RMN Cardcast deck (Cardcast allows you to make your own custom decks for various incarnations of CAH as well as Pretend You're Xyzzy).
But URPC, I don't even know what this game is!
That's okay, I can help you there! READ, RULES:
To start the game, each player draws ten White Cards.
The person who most recently pooped begins as the Card Czar and plays a Black Card.
The Card Czar reads the question or fill-in-the-blank phrase on the Black Card out loud.
Everyone else answers the question or fills in the blank by passing one White Card, face down, to the Card Czar.
The Card Czar shuffles all of the answers and shares each card combination with the group. For full effect, the Card Czar should usually re-read the Black Card before presenting each answer. The Card Czar then picks the funniest play, and whoever submitted it gets one Awesome Point.
After the round, a new player becomes the Card Czar, and everyone draws back up to ten White Cards
If the first round Czar played a black card that read "_____. That's my fetish.", then the rest of the players would have to pick the best/funniest card to fill in the blank. It's a REALLY easy game to grasp.
So, anyone interested in having a go at some online games? If there's enough interest in playing, we could even come up with a Cardcast deck. "Cards Against RMN" or something of the sort.
[RM MV] So, I want to start learning JavaScript in preparation for MV.
A lot of the things I've been reading about MV sound REALLY interesting. The best part, though, is JavaScript. I've looked it up on Google and, compared to Ruby, it seems so much easier to understand. When I look at Ruby, it's not always clear to me what it's saying. This wasn't the case with JavaScript though, I could tell exactly what the code was intended for. It just looks really user friendly, and I'd love to try and figure out how to use it.
Anyone out there with any JavaScript knowledge able to suggest any sites or resources that are good for people who want to pick JavaScript up?

Heroes of the Storm

I freaking love this game and have been addicted since the open beta. Anyone else play it yet now that it's been "out" for a few weeks?
IF you haven't played HotS and aren't really sure what it is, allow me to explain! HotS is a MOBA, much like Defense of the Ancients or League of Legends, but it strips away with a lot of the bloat and clutter that made the aforementioned games complex and difficult for newcomers to get into. It's also free to play.
I don't even know what a MOBA is!
Well, let's turn to Wikipedia!
Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), also known as action real-time strategy (ARTS), originated as a subgenre of the real-time strategy (RTS) genre of video games, in which a player controls a single character in one of two teams. The objective is to destroy the opposing team's main structure with the assistance of periodically spawned computer-controlled units that march forward along set paths. Player characters typically have various abilities and advantages that improve over the course of a game and that contribute to a team's overall strategy. A fusion of action games and real-time strategy games, players usually do not construct either buildings or units.
So what does HotS do differently?
- Focus On Teamwork: There are no lone wolves, and no overleveled beastly players carrying teams. HotS focuses on teamwork. If you engage the enemy alone, you're dead. If your team does not stick together, you'll lose. There is no such thing as kill stealing in HotS, and everyone on the team gets experience for hero/minion kills. The team levels together rather than everyone on the team leveling up independent from one another. This is a game that is all about working with your teammates and developing a synergy with them.
- Talents: Anyone who has played a modern day MMO, such as Blizzard's own World of Warcraft, will know exactly what a talent system is. Whenever you level up, you get to pick talent that passively upgrades one of your main abilities. You can also choose minor abilities through talents as you level, such as the ability to poison an enemy hero or call down a drone to repair your structures.
- Blizzard's Best: The hero roster in HotS is made up entirely of characters from Blizzard's existing franchises. Diablo, StarCraft, Warcraft and even The Lost Vikings are represented! Full list of heroes is below for those who don't play and are wondering who you can play as.
- Map Objectives: There are several maps in HotS (with more on the way) which feature objectives that periodically activate and can help turn the tides immensely. One map has teams collecting gems in order to summon an army of spiders to attack the enemy lanes while another map has the teams fighting to secure two capture points that allow the team with both points to summon (and control) a massive dragon knight. Map objectives are loads of fun and compliment the gameplay immensely.
- Lights, Cameras, Action!: HotS has much faster gameplay than competing MOBAs. Many players of DotA and LoL have commented that, after playing HotS and trying to go back to other MOBAs, they found the gameplay to be extremely slow and tedious. HotS is a fast paced game with the action occurring almost immediately. Unlike other MOBAs where games typically last 45-60 minutes, a match in HotS usually runs somewhere between 15-25 minutes.
That all sounds fine and dandy, but who can I play as?
Glad you asked! Here are the heroes currently in the game, with more on the way and promised monthly (Diablo themed content phase is underway and The Butcher, Leoric, and the D3 monk class are all on the way).

Understandably, a lot of heroes are from Warcraft since it is such a HUGE franchise with a very, very diverse and storied cast of characters. Blizzard is taking steps to manage this by making sure the next three heroes are from Diablo, but they have openly admitted that Warcraft's hero roster will always be significantly larger than the other series represented. Overwatch characters will also make it into HotS as heroes after its release.
HotS offers several ways to play (training, versus AI, quick match, and two ranked options that open up after your player level reaches 20 and 40). There is also the ability to try any of the heroes in the game in the in-game shop before you purchase any. You can either purchase new heroes with real money if that's your thing, or you can save up your in-game currency (gold) and purchase heroes with that. Gold is pretty plentiful and you'll rack it up fairly quickly, so no heroes are ever out of reach if you're aiming to get your favourites first and foremost.
Overall, I'm having a blast with HotS. The community is pretty friendly so far (waaaaaaay less vulgar than in other MOBAs) and the overall gameplay is faster and much more accessible than it is in DotA or LoL. There are no items in HotS and you could argue that there is far less meta game, but the polished gameplay and map variety (complete with objectives) more than make up for that.
To show off what the gameplay is basically like, here is a replay of one of my matches on the Garden of Terror map.
If anyone plays, feel free to say so here! Leave your Battle.net username as well, I'll start a list in this post.

So, the new Ghostbusters movie... no, not that all girl one. The other one. Yes, you heard me right.
So, for anyone who doesn't know, Sony is planning on making a "regular" Ghostbusters movie featuring a male cast. This one, unlike the all female version, will be headed by Ivan Reitman, Anthony and Joe Russo, and Drew Pearce. Reitman, who was director and producer on the first two movies, will be supposedly using various notes and story ideas from Dan Ackroyd as well.
In terms of who will be suiting up in the movie? First official name is Channing Tatum. Not a horrible choice, but there are probably better options out there. Still, I think he can do well enough.
Second cast member? Still a rumour, but it's being heavily suggested that Chris Pratt will be in the movie due to having a real life friendship with Channing Tatum and wanting to collaborate on a film with him. I'm not opposed to this, as I'm a big Chris Pratt fan. He's a fantastic comedic actor.
The other cast members are not yet decided from what I can tell, but who would you guys like to see? Personally, I've got two names. Steve Carell and Chris Tucker.
Why Steve Carell? A better question is why not? I think he could easily portray an Egon sort of character while also bringing his usual goofy charm. They would also need an actor who has proven comedic chops and lots of appeal, and I think Steve Carell has that in spades.
Why Chris Tucker? He's a pretty funny guy! He could also fill the Winston role, making it feel more like a spiritual successor than something new by having another black actor on the cast. I'm also pretty sad that he hasn't had many acting gigs in recent years. Being in something like a Ghostbusters "soft reboot" would surely help him get things back on track. His acting style would also really suit the goofy sort of vibe the Ghostbusters franchise possesses.
So, how about you guys?

Live long and prosper, Leonard Nimoy.
Leonard Nimoy, Spock of ‘Star Trek,’ Dies at 83
I heard he was hospitalized a few days ago, but I didn't expect this. Leonard Nimoy felt like one of those celebrities who will be around forever, like Betty White and James Lipton. I was so surprised to get a text telling me that he passed away today. He gets to reunite with DeForest Kelley and James Doohan, but we'll miss him all the same down here.
Sad day. :(

White to Black: Downfall of the Hero (Plot Idea)
I was just thinking of this concept and how utterly awesome it would be if executed well, and I was wondering if anyone on RMN has ever attempted it.
Basically, you'd have your main character. He/she would be a hopeful youth looking to set things right. They would, of course, be caught up in some kind of grand adventure like main characters tend to do, and they'd set out on some epic quest to save the world from certain destruction.
PLOT TWIST!
Over the course of the game, events and interactions with NPCs would slowly chip away at the main character's ideals and morals. Eventually, they would start to drop down the moral spectrum before firmly ending in the black. Eyebrow raising techniques would be employed to save villages (willingly let all the women and children die to stop a menace or something) until, far into the game, the very thing the main character was seeking to stop became their object of interest, as their skewed perspective of the world would lead them to believe that whatever world destroying thing they were seeking to stop would, in fact, be the source of redemption or something.
At the point of no return when the main character is unmistakably evil (to everyone else anyway, because they would still think they are on a path of righteousness), kingdoms or towns who were once allied with the main character would turn against them. These places would not be able to be visited, and the main character would then have to conduct transactions through questionable contacts (the grumpy demon in a cave, bandit/outlaw camps, whatever).
By the end of the game, the main character would be what they set out to stop. The game would end with the main character having to defeat a party of quickly assembled heroes from the towns you were formerly allied with. When the good guys are killed, the main character pulls a crazy Kefka move or something and rules the world with an iron fist.
So! Anyone ever do that? I think it could be REALLY great if pulled off well. The player would have to sit there and watch their party commit these really heinous acts, it could be tons of fun.

[RMVX ACE] Tsukihime's Command Manager conflicting with Yanfly Ace Menu Engine?
We all know Yanfly's Ace Menu Engine, that wonderful script that lets us add custom commands to the menu, but I'm not sure if Tsukihime's Command Manager is as well known. The link is here: http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/topic/12735-command-manager/
Now, I'm trying to add a bestiary to my menu via Ace Menu Engine which I know how to do since I did so in past projects, but I've been unable to do so because it's not showing up in my current one. No custom menu commands are. I was growing frustrated as I had no clue what was going on. Using trial and error, I started deleting scripts from a copy of my project and test playing after EVERY deletion to see if custom commands from Ace Menu Engine would show up. Eventually, after deleting Tsukihime's Command Manager, they suddenly appeared.

Anyone know why this may be? Would anyone be able to look at Tsukihime's Command Manager and pinpoint what's causing this conflict? I want to add some custom commands to my menu (bestiary first followed by achievements), but I'm currently unable to do so if they're refusing to show up as long as the Command Manager script is present in my project.

I can't think of a title for this. Robin Williams commit suicide.
He took his own life today.

Holy shit. This just hit me like a brick, I loved the guy. Big part of my childhood on the big screen, and I grew to respect the hell out of the guy. I was just talking about the man in glowing terms a few days ago.
I wouldn't make a topic like this for many celebrities, but this is Robin Williams we're talking about here.
Edit: Committed, whatever. Jesus, his poor family.
