edit: I mean really does that style of art somehow mean that nobody respects women or something? games is fantasy. men have lots of fantasies about women. That Witch would be a stunning design with three smaller cup sizes but then she'd also be boring and not especially appealing to the target audience (horny boys). I also doubt that target audience is somehow learning to see girls as a set of tits or something just because of video game art. They already have titty-tunnelvision. Games are pandering to the already boobcrazy audience, not teaching them to be that way. It is called marketing, and the freedom of fantasy and imaginaaaaation *rainbow* because this IS what lots of gaming males imagine.

A LOT of people try to excuse ridiculously mismatched tiles RIGHT next to each other - specifically, and commonly, dead grass next to bright green grass - by writing it into the story. "Oh, there is a circle of magical blight around this castle!" "Oh, that is the Spring of Life, everything is vibrant in a precise circle around it!"

IIRC the RMVX forums have the YEM system rehosted, plus older outdated versions like YEZ, and most of the other scripts from the wiki.

So I got a copy of VX for a gift, and now I am going to start puttering around in it. I am trying to find a good solid "basic starter" tutorial that gives me a good overview of the program as well as some tips on how to use it effectively.

However, I am not having much luck. Alot of the tutorials on this site (no offense guys) are very focused on specific things and while I am sure I will use them when the time comes, I am kinda looking for something a bit broader.

Anyone got any suggestions?

If you want a "general tutorial" the only thing I can suggest IS puttering around and reading the help files. Help files are helpful. I would also nab yourself a copy of Yanfly Engine Melody.
