An appeal to fans

I'm sure you're excited but there's very little excuse for posting three relatively unimportant blogs in rapid succession. You'll find that quite a few people are touchy about their posts being shoved off the main page by something that could have been combined into a single post:

HEY GUYS, WORKIN ON GAEM!
Here's my story so far: xxxxx
And here's my sprite for Ryu: xxxx
And here's what I need for resources: xxxx
Please help, thanks,

Artificial Intelligence

I LOVE YOU THIS IS SO COOL. And I was wondering how to pull it off!

A Mapping contest!

Why not just have a set theme instead. That way we can have the flexibility of using what graphics we like but still be sort of similar. I vote a type of dungeon or town or just something simple that everyone can interpret differently.

yes.

Breath of Fire II: The Fated Child (XP)

It's funny, I bought the new VX version and saw that the chip sets i had spent hours on wouldnt work and immediately went back to 2003...

sad day.

you know you can just change the formatting around ... and use parallax mapping :D

Final Fantasy IV-2

It was just the royal line that reused the names,.

Now THAT makes more sense!

...And STILL makes me wonder why it isn't Rosa III...

Final Fantasy IV-2

author=kentona
That feels like a made-up excuse. :( At least make her Rosa III (the Third) or something. People don't just name their children after dead heroes from 300 years ago.
Hello Forest Gump. (example from fiction aside, yes they do)

example from nonfiction please...? I have no idea who the hero from 300 years ago that you are referencing is whatsoever o_o

I think it's also important to note that these people are supposed to be obsessing over these 300-years-dead people. I don't think it's realistic to say that anyone but some eccentric weirdo obsesses over, like, Christopher Columbus and names his son Christopher Columbus Lastname. Especially an entire city, for that many years.

The names are homage to those who were lost, if you speak with those of Baron they're almost obsessed with the heroes of the past.

That feels like a made-up excuse. :( At least make her Rosa III (the Third) or something. People don't just name their children after dead heroes from 300 years ago.

And I wouldnt say Dark Knights are evil, at all really, just the person, who in that case, used it. (though baron is now getting away from anything remotely "dark", ie black mages, who arent evil at all really.)

Okay so wait. You're using the "Dark Is Not Evil" argument... in a sequel based on a game that basically set in stone that Dark Is Evil. Cecil himself ended up becoming a Paladin, yes, but he was certainly evil before that, and very specifically demonstrated early in the game that Dark Just Cannot Be Used For Good. A "Good" Dark Knight just doesn't exist. And then you say Baron is trying to get away from anything remotely dark... like Dark Knights? I'm confused. Did you.... did you play FFIV?

Dialogue reduction is... staggering!

Being truly critical of ones' own work is incredibly difficult. It does help, though, to have the distance of time between you and what you're reviewing... It's especially strange whenever I do a piece of art, or make a major graphical update to my game, and try to look at it when it's finished. As soon as I wait two days, or show it to someone ELSE to be judged, I'm suddenly able to pick out all the flaws... XD or at least truly hear the feedback.

So yes, A+ work!

Can anyone teach me how to make a custom battle menu layout in VX?

Brewmeister, you should post a series of tutorials! This is helpful even for me having (slightly) more than a mystified question mark over my head where RGSS2 is concerned and also having chopped into some other custom arrangements.

Added Boss Strategies section

I've gotta be honest, I saw the Boss Tips & Strategies stuff earlier and figured it was as dead as the rest of this game's profile (no comments in over a year!). But since you brought it up:

Not one of those boss fights sounds unique or interesting, nor do any of them seem like they use any particularly clever strategy or require you to use any particularly clever strategy. If you DO have some fights that DO use an actually interesting strategy, I'd advise you to put those ones up instead. There is no need at all to include tips on a boss fight that is "very winnable at level 1." BTW people DO see your SD3 ripoffs - SD3 is not an obscure game. Navarre Captain, Xanabie... those are pretty blatant.

I was hesitant to even comment because all of your responses to the feedback I've seen posted have been combative and defensive.

This is a pretty nifty game. I played some of its previous incarnation and overall it's pretty consistent.

Nethertheless, I have to say that what little I've played of the Deluxe edition seems to bloat the original game beyond comparison. Why, for example, have a story-based chapter system in the beginning with more dialogue when story wasn't even the strength of the previous edition? Why turn the opening city in the princess's chapter (which was perfectly fine) into a confusing castle metropolis? Why give the princess a healing spell when enemies drop potions by the dozens? Why replace the princess's sprite with the sprite of that girl from Shadows of Evil: Dreamcaller? Honestly!

On the other hand, I have actually played very little of the Deluxe Edition, so I am hoping that it gets better as it goes. To everyone else, this is still a very good game, if perhaps a little less consistent than it was before.

Also you should, you know, make a Dreamcaller: Deluxe Edition as well. That would be neat.

yamata: Ugh. Ok, I guess I'll answer your questions one by one.

1) The scenarios were implemented to give a better perspective of the opening characters at the beginning. Honestly, the game needed it. Story isn't the strength of the game, true, but in older versions in the beginning it was very weak.
2) The first town looked like crap, that's why I changed it.
3) They won't drop them "by the dozens" for long. I agree her first healing spell is rather useless, but I can't think of anything else to give her at that point. And I'm not changing it.
4) Dreamcaller? How do you know about that? I only released it on one site - did you go to that site back then? Besides, I scrapped it completely because I didn't like it. And Dreamcaller is NOT coming back in any way, shape or form. And the old sprite didn't fit, so I replaced it.

Yes, you have played only very little.

That's a perfectly reasonable comment which you met with point-by-point defensiveness. I'm sorry but
I can't think of anything else to give her at that point. And I'm not changing it.
doesn't speak very highly of your game design ability, nor of your attitude toward feedback.

The floor makes it hard to concentrate on the screen :c
Maybe change it to something less bright?
author=Otabo
I worked way too hard on that floor, and I'm not changing it now this close to release.

That floor looks horrible. I'm sorry that you worked SO hard on it, but a little toning down of the Saturation and Lightness isn't exactly going to break the effort bank.
