What are you working on now?

revamping the frog world rpg. i was having some problems reconciling the weird, dreamlike tone i want with the necessity of getting across plot information etc to the player, let alone the problem of building a whole world and letting the player get across it however they choose. instead i'm turning it into kind of a Live A Live thing where you go through different scenarios and locations with different characters, and the overall plot is revealed gradually through seemingly throwaway lines and reccuring information.

here's the initial character designs. in order the characters are those for: city zone, swamp zone, jungle zone, cave zone, halloween zone, desert zone, and moon zone. i don't like the swamp or desert characters yet but i'll play around with them.

Need some thoughts...

my opinion: it's cool as heck

also neon colours rule don't get rid of them. don't listen to these boring people

sidenote i forgot to mention: the little painting in the backround is actually meant to be goya's "saturn devouring his son". also you can't see it here but behind the horse there's another one of the four dogs playing poker

The New Adventures Of Billy The Kid Review

Thanks for the review! I think Kentona, Craze and Max McGee all have more games than me though haha (and all mine are only like 10mins long anyway).

This game was kind of meant to be a sort of morality play, I guess. I have problems with the whole thing of romanticising outlaws and rogues and mercenaries etc because they're generally not the colourful folk heroes of the movies but just thugs and killers and general predatory motherfuckers. So the game is about Billy the Kid as a pathetic braggart has-been who has to crawl back and suck up to all the people he's wronged in order to get his soul back. The mythological animals were mostly taken from the 12 labours of hercules (i turned the lion into a sphinx because i already made a game about a lion) partly because it fit but mostly because i thought it would be funny to have them chilling around the west for no reason. Originally the plot was that Billy was dead and the town was kind of a purgatory but I thought this was a lil too pretentious for a ten-minute paper cowboy game.

Also the tower in the map screen was originally an extra location but I took it out because I thought too many tasks would make the game repetitive. There was originally going to be a rocket ship floating around the map that formed another location but I left that out entirely!

The game takes place on your bed =O

Can we explore it?

is this a come-on

also this game uses bleeding-edge directx9 graphical technology to render each individual bedfold for the most immersive experience yet, unfortunately this means you cannot walk around in it and must stay on the green crepe paper (i call this the "final fantasy x approach")
