Labyrinthine Dreams Review

I actually played it as well and enjoyed it even though I am not a big fan of puzzles (I easily get frustrated!). I had actually tried to play it when released, but I got stuck in the second puzzle.

Last weekend, I retook the game and got inspired. I found that even the hardest ones for the game I could eventually solve by brute force (trying all possibilities!). That said, for me the suffering (otherwise known as fun!) I had to endure in trying to solve the puzzles, drove me to appreciate the story more.

Regarding the frustration issue, may I suggest the following: pressing a key provides a hint on how to proceed. It definitely would help with those puzzles with a single solution by providing the next step to take. For those with multiple solutions or a solution that can easily be traced from the exit, it doesn't occur to me how to make it work ...

BTW, congrats on the revamped solest.org website!

rmn is getting more exciting lately

'bout time, we've been drama free for like, what? 3 months?

Yeah, I haven't been caught in the middle, this time ... even though I have been referred to, yet again. That's probably since I have been visiting RMN less frequently and thus, a bit out of touch.

Carlsev Saga: Episode II Review

Personally, I found the in-game synopsis to cover the happenings of Carlsev Saga Episode I pretty well. Of course, is not the same as playing it, watching the events unfold, but it's better than nothing. Many of the episodic games I have played generally don't bother to cover what happened in other episodes or chapters. One thing that I would definitely like to see that I don't believe Deckiller covered is making the last save from Episode I portable to this one.

Super RMN Bros. Review

You finally made it! Too bad some of the text near the top of the review is unreadable due to the background cloud images. I definitely agree with your last point regarding ratings.

Tales of the Drunken Paladin: Version 3 Review

Wow, it retains its 5 star rating! Who would have guessed?

Swordscape Version 2 Review

Dante, I played the earlier version of this game and agree that Battling and Balance are things that really need some serious work. Also, regarding the first you mention there is a workaround for that. You need to install these two files (assuming you have Word 2000 or 2003):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en

If you don't have Word at all, you can always download the latest version of OpenOffice as well. I know it is annoying to have to do all this to see those two files, but any .docx becomes accessible. So called progress. :-P

Mana Conquest Review

Sorry to say this, sbester, but your scores don't quite add up. Hint: the second number. Also, good idea of not giving it a rating under your gameplay circunstances.

Wow. The only 5 star game on the site!

Probably until some else reviews it and unless they give it 5 stars, too. Still, LK definitely did the right thing by rounding up (if it were an average of categories ratings) since sadly RMN rounds down the average ratings of the reviews for a game in most cases to the next lowest half star.

I surprisingly didn't find any significant grammar issues
Surprisingly???

Sadly, cal most RM games have some spelling (typos included) and grammar issues which I have come to expect varying from very frequent to minimal. I guess I should have expected a catmitts' game to be relatively free from them based on my other experience playing his other games.

I personally don't think the development time should really factor into a score. Should a mediocre game made in short period of time get the same score as a good game made over a longer period? (Not saying this game is mediocre, just speaking generally.)

Also Anaryu really doesn't advertise his games the way kentona and Craze do so his games get little press on this site. I guess I'm just more familiar with their work since some of their games are among my favorites on the site and I've reviewed most of their projects. (I also made a game with them but that's neither here nor there.)

That's why you have you own review. I don't use your particular review format, nor do I valuate things the same way as you do. I take the personal freedom of taking into account factors that you might not consider as long as I state the fact. I hope you can respect that I take that option. And yeah, bad games will be bad for me regardless of whether I know or not the amount of time invested in developing them.

Anaryu and Krishna have their own website, which most developers here don't have so they don't rely solely on RMN to get people to play. Participating in events such as Game Gale seems to be their biggest thing, since they don't seem to blog about their games or participate in forums as much as other developers. Probably to busy actually developing games, I would say.
