2008 misaos
Shouldn't the GOY be limited only to completed games? If so, there should be another award just for Demos ... That way, you would actually reward those who actually COMPLETED their games, because it would be sad if a Demo were EVEN nominated for the GOY. Sadly, there are many demos, but few complete games ... What don't you guys think about this?
2008 Misaos
What did you think about Glacia
CR,
I actually did manage to download the game from rapidshare. But upon installation, it would hang up before finishing. ??? You might want to check your file, since I don't recall having this problem with any other game. ::)

[DEMO] Love and War, Act II
author=Admiral Styles link=topic=2852.msg54866#msg54866 date=1231555016
demondestiny: It's not necessary, but yeah, I'd suggest so. It helps moving your own save file over to Act II, and all. :)
Jakester: w00t! Hope you enjoy!

Saw this thread while scrolling through and was about to exit the net and was like "OH SNAP ACT TWO!"
Came back ASAP. Took a while to get through my head. Loved the story. I hope this one is as good or better.
DD: I had played the Act I Demo, a long time ago. When I saw the post for Act II Demo at Gamingw (for some reason, more demos and completed games are posted there than in RMN!), I went ahead and got and played the completed version for Act I. Then I played the Act II Demo. If you like Act I, I suspect you will also like the new Demo.
Jakester and Tyranos: The new Demo keeps most of the good elements that were present in Act I adding a few new twists. Hopefully, once you have the chance to play it, you'll agree with me that it holds promise ...
PS/RS! Progress Log (Taking Review Requests!)
I would like to be able to review AT LEAST 1 per week for PS/RS. Thus, I'll accept requests for reviews. I promise to let you know ASAP whether I am commit to playing AND reviewing your game. If I don't, I'll let you know why. If I don't receive any request, I will have to decide myself what to go for, so if you wanted some feedback, take ADVANTAGE of this opportunity.
If I happen to review YOUR game, please don't take my criticism personally, since I will try to be as fair as possible. Think of it as a way to improve or keep up the different aspects of your continuing work. Also, I'll try to be a thorough as possible.
I will start the PS/RS with Forlorn Manor, which I had just started. I'll keep this thread updated as soon as I have any progress to report.

Play Something! Day III [February 4th, 2009]
OK, I'll gladly be the first to officially sign up. :D
My idea is to review AT LEAST 1 per week. I'll go ahead and get started with Forlorn Manor, since I had already started playing it. I'll take requests for reviews if you PM them to me. I'll also start a new thread to ask for requests as well as update everyone on my progress.
I promise to give any requests I receive fair consideration based on time constraints (after all I only have until Feb 4th!), whether or not I have played it before (I'll give preference to the ones I haven't played!). Otherwise, once I am finished playing and reviewing one, I will go ahead and choose another from the RMN database.
Last but not least, I hope to give fair and thorough reviews of everything I play, so please don't be offended >:( by any criticism, but take it constructively and use it to improve your game if you believe any of my comments merits any consideration. I will also praise ;) anything worthy of it, so that your good work can be continued.

So, What are Misaos?
Actually, it seems to me that before being hosted by RMN, it was hosted starting on 2002 on the Queen's Court website (of iishenron, one of the RMN community members):
http://queenscourt.org/misao/
For some reason that somebody might want to expand on, for the 2006 Misaos, there are list of winners on both RMN and Queen's Court (check the "5th Annual Misao Awards" link) that have slightly different categories as well as winners. For the 2007 Awards, RMN became the sole host. You can get an idea of the mechanics that are involved in selecting categories, candidates and winners you can look at those ones that were set for 2007:
http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=68257.0
Finally, for the makers of the games, winning or even being nominated for a Misao is a good way of gaining recognition within the community for their work and also to let gameplayers know of games for their excellence. You'll notice that some of the nominees and winners for the 2006 and 2007 Misaos are not necessarily listed on RMN, but are mentioned on its forums or those described by kentona.
Hope this helps!

Games released so far in 2008

Do demos count for Misaos, or no?
Suzuricho, as far as I can tell demos are eligible for the Misaos as long as somebody other than you (the author) nominates yours for one.
You can read this post to get an idea of what the logistics of the nominations and voting were for them in 2007:
http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=68257.0
Your game, Odyssey in Suri Islands, is a demo that includes only Chapter 1, right? It could be nominated for any category of the Misaos, except, of course, "Best Complete Game".
author=Craze link=topic=2307.msg40164#msg40164 date=1225134024
Versus Xerza and Epic Monster Dungeon Explore. Versus Xerza was actually on the 26th of December, but whatever.
Craze, regarding the cutoff date for, according the 2007 Misaos nominated entries page :
Game-related entries must only be for 2007 ...So I guess it would depend on whether whoever is in charge of this year´s effort will allow your game to be considered a nominee if somebody happens nominate yours for any category, since it wasn´t technically released on the 2008 calendar year.
Based on the hyperlink I posted in my reply to suzuricho regarding the 2007 Misaos, it seems that the actual Game Nominations for the categories took place of January 21 and 22. That would have given you about 25 days for people visiting RMN and wherever else you advertised your game to play it, like or dislike it enough to nominate it for a 2007 Misao. Whether that was enough time for consideration is debatable. I guess the ~2 hours of playtime you mentioned in your game description would have to be taken into account into this decision.
It seems to me that if the "calendar year" rule were strictly enforced for the Misaos, many of you authors (I confess that I only play your games!) would probably decide to wait until next year to release a new game to be considered for them, instead of releasing it the year before, given that it does take all of you a good amount of time and effort to develop them. I think that releasing games, whether complete, demo or even chapters or arcs, SHOULD be done once they are ready and shouldn´t be artificially delayed by something like the Misaos. What are ALL (by this, I mean you GAME AUTHORS!) of your thoughts regarding this particular issue?
author=ChaosProductions link=topic=2307.msg40245#msg40245 date=1225151364ChaosProductions, see my Suzuricho reply to get an answer related to your release demo. I guess it could skip this year´s Misaos if nobody happens to nominate it. I would think that if your demo´s good (I promise I´ll try that for myself soon!), somebody will nominate it to acknowledge its contribution this rpgmaking community. I wonder if anybody in the past has actually DECLINED a nomination for the Misaos? ??? Not likely, I would say!
I don't think 1873 will be complete until '09, so can it skip this year's misaos? Or is it eligible for this and next year? Or what?
Your complete version, if released in ´09, can be considered eligible AGAIN, except this time around it could be nominated for the "Best Complete Game". From the past Misaos, it seems unlikely that if your demo is nominated for any category, that your complete version would be renominated for it, but I guess its up to those doing the nominations.
I hope all of you see why having a game list of releases would be helpful! I also hope this long and booo...ring reply ::) helps answer your concerns and gives you my particular insights, especially, for those 1st time Misao nominee hopefuls! Good luck to all in advance and keep up the good work! :)

Thanks for your replies, WIP and Chaos Productions. I guess it makes sense that somebody else misses Search.
Since both of you mention RMN3 (which I finally get will be a redesign of RMN, right?), I wanted to find out its current status:
This forum topic hasn't been updated in a while, so I seem to be a bit out of the loop regarding RMN3:

While I do enjoy the RMN forums, how come it isn't included as a Search option in the menu above? I have seen other forums that even have an advanced function to search, for example, only within a category. Just an observation which I hope will lead someone to make this tool available for all of us to use. I wonder if anybody else misses not having it ...
