So... things I'm assuming right now:
1. itrombe really is a doctor and he protected Ivory and not Cave as he suggested yesterday.

1. Beholderfish

2. Human brains

3. An eye with a jagged abdomen and trailing appendages. The eye itself is about half the fish's total mass; its body is a matte white in color, the iris a deep cobalt. The pupil is black and opaque, but it opens in a horizontal split to reveal hundreds of tiny, prehensile and sharp teeth.

Its abdomen is a sort of carapace, sectioned in thick, rounded scales, and at its end, seven long, beet red tentacles tail outward, each the length of the creature's body and all tipped with a hooklike crimson barb.

4. Beholderfish live in human brains, become active when met with constant electromagnetic interference (commonly from wireless adapters) and feed off of brain tissue and lymphatic fluid. They seldom grow larger than a millimeter in length, but can thrive in great numbers for years at a time.

Their presence causes a number of subtle, outwardly benign effects on their hosts -- these range from depletion of mental presence, lapses in judgment, numbing of activity in the prefrontal cortex and lethargy. Extreme cases of beholderfish infestation can cause sociopathy, periodic hyperventilation, rage and a firmer need for fantasy and fake influence over others.
