I mean, south south south south gets me out of the woods, but it doesn't let me progress. The only way forward is through the woods.

Dyhalto, for the lost woods area, it's not clear how to proceed forward. I tried the "north, west, south, west" from the original zelda, but no luck. And I explored the only accessible town, but all they said was that I needed to go through the woods.
I have fought a lot of armored dudes by this point. What do I do?

Click new game, then alt+tab as soon as the intro scene starts.
Maybe it's a just-my-computer issue, so it's probably not worth worrying about.
This is the only bug I've encountered, and the game's been a blast to play.
Are these maps custom, by the way, or are they from FE Gaiden? Gaiden's one of the ones I never played, so I can't tell what's custom and what's from the original game.

I found a bug! Possibly in the engine!
If you start a new game, then immediately alt+tab to minimize the window, the game pops up an error that is not in English, then crashes.
Alt+tabbing normally does not cause this issue, and the bug is repeatable.
Edit: Just reached the "Town of Kumada, which helps people. Named after the guy who does the same." Awwww.

Unity can be promoted at 12, but this is a Fire Emblem so you probably want to wait until 20 before promoting anyone to ensure maximum stat gain.
Liberty will probably promote via an item. I'm in chapter 3 and haven't encountered it yet, but I'd be surprised if she just stalls at level 20.

It's a relief to hear that there aren't any missable characters. The lack of a walkthrough was making me nervous that I was going to miss someone by failing to meet some obscure Thracia 776 requirements.

It's frustrating, but it's sort of a hazard of freeware. Because there's no money involved, every freeware game that gets made is its own small victory against the forces of "I could be doing anything else right now."

There don't seem to be any walkthroughs, so I've gotta ask. Is Benos recruitable?
No one in the squad seems to have a talk option with him, and capturing the throne with Liberty also doesn't seem to be an option. This is my first time playing a Fire Emblem this retro, so I'm not actually sure what to expect from it.
