MAIA'S PROFILE
maia
737
My name is not Maia, but instead it is something that I was dubbed on Don Migel's old forum for the first game that I showed off to the public. My generic name was changed into Maia, and since then I have been Maia. I am a girl, I am old compared to some other people, in fact for the majority of RPG Makers, I am twice their age.
I was born in Russia, and moved to America when I was a teenager, but not as an exchange student. Back in Russia, I am a published author and I have written two dozen books. One dozen of which have been published.

Release Something! Day VIII: Journey of the Cursed King [Discussion]
Did you know that Contra has this big elaborate story about how the Red Falcons took over a local militia? Do you know that the Black Scorpion bought the alien DNA to splice it with their troops? The story is not important. If you did not read the instruction booklets you would not know that.
Your story is in there yes, but it takes a back seat to everything else.

DRAGON FANTASY: VENAITURA
INTRO
The Dragon Fantasy series is back, with the same Dragon Quest graphics, but a brand new design that sets it apart from the other games in the series, if not other RPG 2K3 games.
STORY
The dreaded Dark King is in his battleship Venaitura and you need to stop him. Other than some smattering of brief cut scenes the story is unimportant and it is the gameplay and design that will make this game stand out. Your party of four has stormed this ship (or tower) with a vow to defeat the Dark King.
DESIGN
Dragon Fantasy: Venaitura is a superbly simplistic design. It is a dungeon crawler really that has you headed up a tower, floor after floor you just clear out monsters, puzzles, beat times and avoid dangerous obsticles. The design is absurdly simple, yet amazingly great. Each floor was probably created in a matter of minutes, but due to each floor having a gimmick like a beat the clock challenge, wandering enemies and zipping wizards make each level a fun and interesting challenge. There are no towns, no inns, no real NPCs to speak to other than merchants. The game is designed to be speedy and quick, before you know it you are onto the next level, but not before defeating a boss character.
GAMEPLAY
There are no traditional levels, classes or anything of that nature. This game goes along the same lines as the Gameboy classic Final Fantasy Legend (SaGa) series that will have you purchasing upgrades to health, magic, intelligence, strength, agility, defense and even spells. Any of the four characters can have any spell, any weapon (from the very limited choices) or armor. You will be amazed at the level of customization there is with this game. After each challenge portion of a floor you will find the equivilant of a town waiting for you. The battles are styled like the other Dragon Fantasy games, where some creatures have a magical weakness and you need to use it or else you will be forced to hack and slash away five times as much as a single spell. The difference between this game and the previous Dragon Fantasy series is the fact that you can see enemies on the overhead map to avoid them.
PRESENTATION
Like the other Dragon Fantasy games, this game uses the old school graphics from the old NES Dragon Quest / Warrior games, even if it does not quite feel like the game. The music stands out as great, if not sometimes out of place on the first few floors. The battle music and victory sounds are obviously updated versions of the Dragon Warrior / Quest, but they are sure to get you into the fray like a friend that has had too much to drink at a shady bar.
EXIT
This is a simple, fun and addictive game that will keep people wanting to know what is on the next floor above the one they are on. It is a great game that stands out from everything else.
ADVICE
Variety in weapons and armors would be great. Some things could be explained better, like the push rocks. They could look more pushable and distinct from other things in the Dragon Quest series that have been branded unpushable. There could be more NPCs with hints, tips or just silly absurdity.
