MAIA'S PROFILE
maia
737
My name is not Maia, but instead it is something that I was dubbed on Don Migel's old forum for the first game that I showed off to the public. My generic name was changed into Maia, and since then I have been Maia. I am a girl, I am old compared to some other people, in fact for the majority of RPG Makers, I am twice their age.
I was born in Russia, and moved to America when I was a teenager, but not as an exchange student. Back in Russia, I am a published author and I have written two dozen books. One dozen of which have been published.

Missiongarde Worldbuilding -- countries for sale!
Perhaps the second Goslin's War should be known as the Dark Conflict, the Cleansing of the Dark Continent or the Dark War. Totally different from Goslin's War.

ORIGINS OF THE DARK CONTINENT
Land Mass
The dark continent is located in the south-eastern quadrant of the world. It is known as the dark continent due to its unenlightened, unorganized nature. Notable features of the dark continent are the Vakru river that runs through the belt of the continent and the network of rivers known as the Vasoru in the west. South of the Vakru is Vasov, a lake with monstrous fish not found anywhere else. Most of the inhabitants are considered savages that were duped by the intelligent Peruvo Empire that uses magic for virtually everything.
The people of the southern majority of the continent are considered savages due to their worship of demons in their mythology called the Ookasuna. Each village has a chief and is completely independent from one another with numbers in the thousands. There were several different languages unique to each village tribe that resulted in many disputes. During Goslin's War, hundreds of villages have either burned down or have been overgrown by plant life.
This is a stub, feel free to add to it or add the current dark continent.
THE PERUVO EMPIRE
Empire / Great Empire
The Peruvo Empire is considered one of the great empires due to its superior magic known well around the world. They are located on the northern part of the dark continent, segregated by a thin strip of land called the landou teather, that is blocked by a magical wall that surrounds their territory. This is the boundary that Goslin's War never crossed although Mercuio Esteven discovered a creature that would nullify the magical barrier. After the snartle creature was found, the Peruvo suddenly had a great interest in Goslin's War and used their influence to convince the other great empires to join the war.

Why not have 4 male 4 female... but the player character you chose the gender, so instead of 8, its 9 or is that too much? That way the player can put themselves into the role better.

These are pretty elaborate for a game that has the graphics of Dragon Warrior. Elaboration loses charm.

Here is a better point... after playing 15 hours and you party of 4 warriors has decimated everything... BUT one thing. One thing you just can't beat even with all of the herbs and potions in the world. Then starting a party from scratch you would feel like those 15 hours are wasted.
Starting over with a Cleric would mean grinding hours without a story to compell you, cause you've already gone through the story.

The first play character should either have a special series of classes like:
Hero / Alter Boy / Squire / Brawler / Baron
and branch into things like:
Leader / Golden Boy / White Knight / Grappler / Mayor
and evolve into things like:
Commander / God's Warrior / General / Champion / Governor
and evolve into things like:
Savier / God / One Man Army / Grand Champion / King
The reason why I say special classes, is hero classes can use basic versions of all spells, that way you are not STUCK. Like if you have a party of all white mages, you want someone who can fight and use black magic. If you have a party full of warriors, you want someone to heal them and use black magic.
If you go with the idea that the start character can be any class, make sure there are bonuses, ala Saga, just to make them special.
As for level promotion, go back to level 1 for the simple fact then you get all tactics / spells learned from level 1 without missing any. Then of course half their stats.
Hero character is good, cause a story can suck, be cliche or dull, but if a character is memorable, they will love it :-)

Working is better than talking about work. I think you are doing the right thing Kentona. The world is but a stage, so there is no story beside armageddon that could affect the story.
It is kind of like the building needs an engineer, but the land should already be there :-) Buildings are built according to the land they are on.

1) How will the game start?
idea A: Thrown into a story like later Final Fantasy games.
idea B: Select your party like Dragon Warrior or the earliest Final Fantasy game / Saga series.
idea C: Prologue gameplay ala Dragon Warrior VI?
Since there is no storyline yet, idea B.
Or generally start as a hero and visit a guild instead of flat out picking a party to kickoff the game.
a) Do we want to have the player choose the classes for the 8 (or 6 or 4) PCs right off the bat, FF1 style? Or do we want to start them all as Generic Class X and allow them to change willy-nilly?
Not willy nilly. Do it Dragon Warrior III / Saga style, allow the player to take on the world by himself or visit a guild for more people.
b) What's the story? Why are 8 people in Missiongarde, and why do they want to kick some monster asses?
1. Just likes kicking ass and has vowed to cleanse the world
2. Is doing it as a promise to a father
3. Is not kicking monster's ass but wanting to heal the world
4. Is doing it to study the monsters, but sometimes you need to do a little killing
5. Is in love with someone in the party
6. Is doing it for the merchandise / goods / treasure / money
7. Is a spy against the heroes
8. Is a tag along / liability to the party like a kid brought by an older sibling
c) Addendum to a), how do you see progression to more advanced classes working? ie- At a set level (say 25) does a message box pop up and say, "Yo! Pick one of dems advanced classes, dawg!" or will we have some sort of way to purchase or otherwise unlock advanced classes?
Visit specific places having to be at specific levels seems to work for other similar games. It adds to the gameplay instead of just being something to accomplish.

THE GRAYGUARD
Factions â€" Organizations
Grayguards are known for the stroke of gray paint or cement on the chest of their armor. The number of strokes indicates the member's rank in the Grayguard.
The Grayguard was established in the dawning years of the Parliament after several representatives were murdered between feuding factions. The sole purpose of the Graygard is to defend the personal safety of the numerous representatives in the Parliament.
Recruits of the Grayguard are chosen by its commander from local military or police. Anyone may turn down the recruitment, but the pay is often worth everyone's attention. Those recruits are then trained in one of four training locations; Fort Aerakreth, Enaem Keep and two other non public locations sworn to secrecy. After a year of training recruits either become members or they are slain for failure. Failure was usually based on character flaws, such as being untrustworthy.
ROYAL MARINES
Factions â€" Organizations
Originally, the top of the class from the Grayguard became a Royal Marine after taking a lengthily oath before the king himself. The top of the class was determined by the Grayguard commander. However, in 986, after an attempt on King Ricardir Gardeheim's life was made by a Royal Marine, the king called for reform. The acting commander Alav Dandro was found dead a day later in his jail cell beneath Enaem Keep. The calling card of the Dark Gate was found on his body.
The attempt on the king's life was the first that the public had ever heard of the Royal Marines and the public feared them. Their strange armor was white opulant and like nothing the commoners had ever seen. Once discovered, the king had to let his people know that the Royal Marines were to be feared. A tournament was created for the top sixteen Grayguard. The tournament is called the Mashaar and held annually at the Krea Coliseum. The winner would adorn the Royal Marine armor in one final moment of glory before being rushed away into the secret organization.
Under King Ricardir's reign, the non winners did not survive their tournament rounds. King Latenir has changed the rules where death is not mandatory, nor is citizen attendance.
Royal Marines are looked to as the angry hand of the King with their demonic faceplates and ruby eyes. Although no one quite knows that they do, many speculate that they carry out secret missions on behalf of the king and rumor has it that King Latenir does not have control of them, nor has any king but Ricardir.
