So I bought a copy of Suikoden V
author=Ciel link=topic=680.msg9366#msg9366 date=1203410437
I loved the extremely easy battles of the PSX Suikodens because I played them on ePSXe can could frame skip past them in an instant so I could get to the good parts like wandering around my rad castle, finding characters, and listening to the soundtrack.
Well to me number-crunching is intrinsic to having fun while playing an RPG like Suikoden or Final Fantasy. If the gameplay systems are boring and/or if the combat is not sufficiently challenging (level grind does not count as challenging) then while playing the game I can't help but wonder if I'd be having more fun playing something else.
Liberty: Holy crap yes this game is so much better than Suikoden IV.

That said, the difficulty fluctuates really harshly. Whatever, that's what everybody's favorite rune is for!
If by "fluctuate harshly" you mean "the entire game is so easy that you start to seriously wonder why there are battles in the game at all" then I agree with you. Seriously, this game would have been one of the most perfect games ever if not for the fact that every single battle in the entire game (except for the final bosses) was not a complete auto-battle of a joke. But because of that it was actually really boring most of the time I played it, and while I like the game a lot I can't even begin to imagine playing through it again.

The battle interface is really shitty. The actual graphics are pretty cool.
Well the battle system will probably rotate a 2D panoramic backdrop like in SaGa Frontier so it might actually look good in motion.
But holy crap those maps are so cool-looking. I am now no longer skeptical about this game.

I like the tree canopy but I would suggest two things out of personal preference:
1. Shade in the top of the canopy to be green and not black. I don't know why so many tilesets insist on having black interiors to tree canopies because it looks pretty lame. If you filled it in with green (of a course a lighter shade than the grass on the ground for the sake of perspective) it would look sweet.
2. Get rid of the furthermore tree on the edge of the canopy so that the last tree on the row of trees is the one in the back row. It will make it look much more round.
But man that is an awesome canopy you've improvised.
While you are editing RM2k3 RTP I really recommend you make new roofs because hot dog those are ugly roofs.

You do excellent work with monsters, but your proportions with humans are a little off. But don't worry! I, for one, can't draw or design monsters very well, but do better portraits and drawings of people or characters. Once you find that 'artistic niche', as you will, you can use it to develop your talents and eventually move on to the other subjects you want to improve in. When I was little, I started with dragons- now I can draw people and various mythical creatures with ease. But pulling excellent monster designs out of the blue, there's something you've got going for you.
Thanks for sharing!
My policy is to not try very hard and then apologize for being a poor artist. Also maybe the proportions are off because he drawing ugly people DID YOU THINK OF THAT?!?!?!?!

One thing that doesbother me to hell, though, is that WAY too many people who are in my classes at school refuse to believe that games not rated M (or at least are a very violent Teen game) can actually be good.
This is something insecure teenagers do to look tough. It's the same reason that a lot of 13 and 14 year-olds suddenly start swearing constantly. But yeah it's really sad. Someday when you are all in your 20s you'll be like REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE A TOUGH GUY???? and they'll be like "yeah I was pretty stupid".

Ah well, I'm ok with it overall. And yeah, unfortunately, too many parents don't even pay the slightest bit attention to what their kids play. It's sad, but the truth. Oh, and I can't play first-person shooters either. I've tried and tried and tried to convince them to let me play stuff like Metroid Prime, 007, and Call of Duty/Medal of Honor, but nooooooooo, they have to be all overprotective.....
I think the real problem is that your parents are only barely paying attention to what you play. They are making judgments based on a ratings system and and not on individual content inside of each game. I think they have heard scary stories about school shootings and buy into the media's claims that shooters and M-rated games turn you into a violent killer. I guess, though, that it's a lot better than the crazy right-wing parents that refuse to buy a television or think videogames and Rock music are the devil's tools.
But I can't say that I know much of anything about parenting and maybe your parents are making the right decision! You are not allowed to watch R-rated movies, either, so at least it's consistent. It's hard for me to imagine a 13 year old who has been properly parented because at that time in my life I was literally not parented at all. However I think you should provide them with a convincing argument that not all M-rated or first-person games are actually inappropriate or outrageously violent if you'd like to play expand your video game horizons. For example there is scientific proof that playing touch football has much stronger and long-reaching effects on your level of overall aggression than even the most violent video game (it's because athletics make your testicles get all worried that someone else has bigger testicles so you start to produce more testosterone). The Halo series for example has so little blood in it that you'd have to look veeeeery carefully to spot it. I had always thought it was rated Teen. Isn't it?
Also Grand Theft Auto is not an offensive game at all. It (smartly) makes gang culture look so ridiculously stupid that after playing it you can't help but believe every gangster in America is completely retarded. It's a really effective parody and I guess yeah you command your avatar to do horrible things to people for no reason, but I think the whole point is that gang culture is about the lamest thing ever and the fact that gangsters *do* horrible things for no reason disgusts the creators of GTA as much as it disgusts the rest of us. They *are* only virtual people after all.

Or maybe they just get overworked and cannot produce the songs that they would like to, so resort to something just to get it done. I dunno.
I have been in that situation and can vouch for its legitimacy.

I would say that generally you are getting the right idea. I would adjust the distribution of your dark green dots in the grass; it's not that you have too many but that they cluster in one spot near where the top and bottom of two tiles meet up with each other. That makes it look like a tile. If your dots are appropriately random and appropriately spaced, it will served to break up the tiling rather than make it more obvious.
