Yeah, the Virtual Boy is a handheld, all right... if you're a giant.
The Virtual Boy was a barfheld.

Hell, if I am going to purchase RMVX, and the last RM program I used seriously was RPG Maker 95, then what does that say about other people?
Note that a lot of users on this site (including one person who has hired me for contract work in the past) are younger and don't even have JOBS yet, let along bank accounts or credit cards to purchase things online. I remember in school it was a nightmare to get my mom to buy *anything* online; she would sooner buy for me a $100 item off of a store shelf than a $60 item online. I think that small detail unfortunately accounts for a massive number of users.
Royalty-Free RTP Alternative Project
These sorts of questions are what design documents are for. :) Before I went so far as to actually write a document I wanted to make sure that there was community interest as well as talent interest.

Well, I guess the soundtrack isn't actually released yet. I haven't even put it at brandonabley.com, so maybe I'll delay the OFFICIAL release until the 24th in honor of this effort. :)

By pressing this issue I think that I'm a de facto director of the effort. If you think it would be helpful I could write up a design document for art assets that receive a lot of requests.
RMXP and Windows Vista: HELP!
When I had Vista for about a week (disaster), I ran RMXP in Windows95 compatibility mode and it worked. Were you having the "nTitles Server" error? If sure, make sure your internet connection is up and that you are in Windows95 compatibility mode.
If that doesn't help you then your problem is much more mysterious!

Royalty-Free RTP Alternative Project
So . . . am I correct in assuming that none of the artists here are committed to actually contributing to a project like this? I'd like to figure out whether or not this is a lost cause well in advance of the release of RMVX.

You should have indicated this earlier and I would have delayed putting out the DL OST until then.
Maybe I'll have a piece for part 2 finished in time for this?

Plus getting RPG VX the legit way would set me back more dosh so yeah if I had the money, I'd jump onto RPG VX any day.
Have you ever stopped to think that you've been pirating RM2k this entire time? And that Rm2k3 was an expansion that you have also pirated? If that's your mindset, at *least* pirate RMVX when it gets out.
It's about getting the community excited about a new engine -- there are new tricks that we have access to and it might be easier to implement our old tricks. If learning how to code would become a standard expectation in the community, the impact would be enormous. Furthermore, flexibility in basic areas such as changing game resolution affects the way that we can look at making a game from the most fundamental level.

All in all, though I'm probably going to stick with RM2k/3 for my current projects,
I find this attitude, which most of the community seems to have, EXTREMELY fucking depressing and I think that attitude is single-handedly responsible for the steady decline of creativity and output across the entire homebrew RPG-making community.
I personally am extremely excited for RMVX and plan on making another game once it comes out. It will probably star a character who looks like a mushroom.
