I'm just a guy who enjoys pixel art and 2D games.(I like 3D also)
I've always wanted to make a game and now I'm trying to do so. Still don't know all the ins and outs of RPG Maker, but what I do know is this...
It can be a great game engine given to someone with an imagination!

Demo Patch 1.4 Quick Patch
Thanks Also I found a temporary fix to the Bestiary bug, It just recreates the array but all the enemies are reset. (I'm working on finding a way to keep the previous monsters unlocked)
In the mean time for future builds I'll make an item called "RESET" and have it auto placed in your inventory on any map. A secondary switch ativates once it's in your inventory to stop it from adding it again until you use it. Then using "RESET" will cause the Bestiary to include all the new monsters I may have added. I maybe able to have books found ingame that reveal monsters based on the area's they are found this will help people re-update their monster manuals.

Attempting to make a snowy tile set for the cold parts of the map.
Thoughts on this? I feel it/s a little bland but I'm not sure what else I can add.
I wanted it to look like how it was in the GBC game...
Unfortunately I guess water tiles cant be merged to have different boarders touch like in this picture. (there's a Ice boarder and a Earthy Boarder)

DQ Gaiden: A Starry Legend
Now on to annoying enemies.
Healers/Healslime:
The healer enemies AI is set to attack only if no other monster is hurt.
This makes for escaping them tedious and killing them annoying when there's only one or two left with damage. If you are out of MP and it's only the Hero and Riara, not fun.
Suggestions for Healers:

Suggestions for Healers:
-Have at least two substantial hits on them or on really good one. (Johan's BiAttack)(Riara's Icebolt followed up with an Attack.)(Hero's ChargeUp and attack)
-Exploit the healers need to heal their ally who's hurt most. (Boomerang does this forcing them to not heal themselves)
-Cast Expel.
-Cast Sleep, then attack them.
-BugPowder, confused monsters only attack

DQ Gaiden: A Starry Legend
This is for anyone who finds escaping some battles tedious. Dragon Quest is kinda strange about escaping. (I was playing DQ 3, my party was past level 10 and I couldn't escape 3 slimes! Took me 4 attempts.
RPG maker sets the escape ratio based off the enemies agility divided by the parties agility. This is then subtracted from a Variable X the remainder is the probability of escape. (So 1.4 + 30/25) you have a 20% chance of escaping
There's also a feature that adds a percentage for each time you fail to escape, 10% currently. This means you can escape eventually.... After 5 attempts you should have a 50% chance of escaping. Assuming you started with a 0% chance of escape. (chances of escape can be a negative percent also)
I think I can tweak it to instead roll a random variable based on the players level that determines the escape rate for that turn in the event they fail to run the first time.

Like I said, I testplay it for you.
I grind now for money and equipment.
Before entering the Tower, I will send you my first report of Version 1.3.
Hopefully, you have found a solution for this bug by then and can make a better Version 1.5.
Thank you, If you don't want to grind as much I suggest trying 1.4.
The hero's ChargeUP skill (learned at Level 10) can one shot most of the enemies (great for Healers and Trick Bags). A ChargeUp+Boomerang toss is very good combo. Maybe I'll have those two not work while the other is in use.

While in tower at the top floor, during fight with the boss, game ends with this error Script:'MonsterManual' line 511:NoMethodError Occured. Undefined Method
'' for NilClass
Hmm that script keeps giving people trouble. It works for me which download are you using? Try re downloading the file and placing the save file there?
I'm testing it and I'm not getting that issue.

@Momeka:
I'm using DQ game art/sprites along with custom tiles/battlers/battlebacks I've come up with.
For my other game it'll be 100% custom. Doing this fan game has help me figure out creating custom tilesets.
Here's an updated version of the map using Kaempfer's suggestions.

@slimeborgi:
Again, I like the new cave a lot, but it's not consistent with the style of the other graphics I've seen so far.
That's because I haven't started to making the other maps with the same style as the newer cave map.
I agree that the newer cave would look out of place with the current build.
And that definitely what the older cave map needs. I'll post a screen or gif of my changes to that tomorrow along with an updated demo.(fixing bugs people replied about)

Problem:
I healed and saved before choosing a root and now they are gone.
Another good find, I'd always choose a root before leaving. I'll make it so it forces you to choose.

With the first demo out and people giving me help feed back I think I'll do two versions of the game! This is a cave in the demo (sorry for the events appearing)

Here's the newer version (still needs some grass and such added)

@Kaempfer:
I added the marshy areas(It's either that or grass?) that appear in the GBC game.
There's also deserts and swamps.
