christ, are we still on this

Kaliesto, please stop reheating all your old 'well WHAT IF CRITICISM ACTUALLY IS CENSORSHIP' nonsense like this and hoping it'll catch on this time. like, you're referring to criticism as 'social coercion' now? the hell?

Key words there being "a bit."

You are hard to please. It's not generic.

1.5 years of development, lots of budget, use collective party-wide TP instead of MP, kidnapped bride who completely turns that trope on its head in a massive way later on, extremely robust forge/salvage and augment systems, fully animated battlers, fucking stunning in battle pixel art, relying on physical formation in battle - mixing tactical with JRPG, heal after battle, no random encounters and ability to get preemptive attack/surprised attacked based on map encounters, respec skill points any time, retry battle with opportunity to respec, repeatable missions with scaling enemies, AOE attacks with various area patterns in battle, etc, etc, etc. Show me a more feature-rich RM game?

Generic? Maybe Lucian's design. But the game doesn't even take him seriously. He's joked about as being hero guy and not very bright in the game itself. He's not even the protagonist - he's the facilitator. Ingrid is "the player" along for the ride. The true protagonist is the kidnapped bride.

Generic.

yikes! god forbid you ever face firmer criticism than that

I'm a pretty tough guy and love cats. I take care of about 12 of them including more that I don't actively watch over but feed them when they are around.
It's great, I try to find them homes or take strays to no kill shelters. In the meantime I just bathe in kittens and cats

have you considered taking up the way of the sword, and then going out for dinner sometime

What are you thinking about right now?

here's what matters in life: tough guys who love cats

What are you thinking about right now?

anyway Kaliesto the next time we're talking about something else and you feel like dragging me in to hear my Hot Take on some gamer issue: please don't

What are you thinking about right now?

yes, they will pay for taking a half-second of titillation out of this game which people are already making HD porn of

☆find a better hill to die on, already.☆

maybe they thought it was silly, or maybe they had a change of heart with regards to their character design focus, or maybe they didn't want to alienate parts of their audience after being made aware of how some groups perceive their games, or maybe a devious goblin wrote the CEO a strongly-worded letter specifically asking them to remove it and they decided to go along with it.

all of these things are okay. they are normal for games.

literally the only reason anyone finds this case notable is that the biggest antiprogressive muckrakers at the moment also happen to be desperately horny

^About that. I mixed up my information there. That was Street Fighter, and not DOA.

But I don't think Capcom was going out of their way to make gamers horny. I think they just wanted to make the characters sexy, but I guess being sexy is who defines it that no one will agree on.

For example America, and Central America have completely different views on that.

you're still phrasing this as though someone with dyed hair and an undercut broke into the studio and started unplugging people's computers. the game Capcom wanted to make is the game they made. marginalized groups and progressive critics do not have the dark underworld influence that people seem so eager to assume they do.

also: differing cultural standards do not render criticism invalid, different cultures have critics of their own speaking from that background, and the whole fallacy is one or two steps away from the old classic of 'well if I lived in Japan they'd respect my otaku status' anyway

other cultures are not there for you to point at and say 'well, THEY'D be okay with it'. show some respect.

what I've seen of the progressive perspective on doa is basically just a resigned sigh; it's gross, unsalvageable, and ultimately insignificant. people like to pretend that it's something that has people clutching their pearls in shock because that helps them sell import copies to assholes.

like, Kaliesto, please consider that 'the SJWs don't want you to have this, so buy it from us' has been a shockingly widespread marketing tactic in some circles lately. a lot of the stuff telling doomsday stories about censorship is just trying to sell on you.
