Star Citizen allegedly going bankrupt, development mired by turnover, racism, sexism
while I'm yelling at people for poor sources, I am obligated in the spirit of fairness to note that encyclopedia dramatica is among the poorest

the main thing for me is that the game's performance so far (and since that article's publishing) has completely flown in the face of the doomsaying. there's no real evidence that the development team are resting on their laurels, and they haven't been shy about bringing in help and adjusting their plans -- and if this thing is an intentional scam, then it'd have to be the most complex and meticulously-maintained scam that there's ever been.
that's my main issue with this sort of thing, I guess? the Star Citizen project bears criticism for its funding methods and its massive promises, but a lot of the criticism people make instead overshoots investigation, tact, and good taste completely and tries to cast it as a dramatic conspiracy.
issues of company conduct and other things behind closed doors are much harder to suss out, especially when the sources are collated by someone trying to tell a dramatic story, so I don't have much of an opinion there except 'it'd be a shame'.
e: I should make it clear that I still feel dubious about this game's completion on a few different fronts. I just... also feel that most of the dramatic things people are saying about the project's imminent failure are totally peripheral to the problems it might actually run into.

I've heard it said that men who use emoticons in their texts and IMs are far less likely to be looked upon by ladies as potential dates.

I'm mostly saying 'people' to avoid being rude by singling someone out
being rude to many people at once dilutes the effect. it's like a spell.
e: also I should undermine my own opinions here and mention that I've backed SC, although I remain super tentative on it for reasons that aren't this grandiose 'it's a secret scam that they're covering up by releasing playable demos' business.
I have a lot of hopes for the sci-fi genre that have broadly gone unrealized, and a lot of the work the writing team are doing seem like maybe they're trying for something that cuts out the weird racism and imperialism that have been holdovers for a lot of its history. when I have hopes for something, though, I hold it accountable for those hopes with a savagery.

Serious props to everyone out there making their own tilesets. Holy crap this is hard.
It's cool how the following website showcases screenshots of the week of RPG Maker games mostly from RMN.

not only is it unlikely that this person is a shadowy PR hireling but that's also literally the most boring and strained turn that people's reasonable skepticism could have taken

I was gonna edit this into the other post but
as for the mysterious lurker appearing to Set the Record Straight, like. this is a thing that happens with everything that has a cult following. SC's fans are hugely devoted to it, and will pop up in pretty much any related discussion, but by and large they also seem like the types to do their research, and that outline of the situation basically mirrors my knowledge of things as someone whose sources have all been third parties. for whatever that's worth.
the escapist is a rag even by the standards of game journalism sites. is production flawless? probably not -- honestly, CR's approach seems a lot like Molyneux's to me, and that's never been very encouraging. but they've continued to deliver new working iterations of the project at a fairly stable clip.
if this project dies, it'll putter out quietly in the eleventh hour when they realize they spent too much hiring famous sci-fi actors, or else go the way of most dying F2P mmos a couple months into its run. the escapist is catering to an audience that wants explosions and safe moral outrage, though, so any summary of the company's failings they can provide will be grotesquely inflated.
tldr: flight simmers are among the most obsessive group of enthusiasts you'll ever find. of course someone with prior knowledge of this whole thing would show up.
most of you in this thread are better than these goddamn conspiracy theories that people seem to be taking widely disgraced sources at their word for. if we were going off of literally any other sources than these, then we'd be in business, but we aren't, so we're not.
