Culture of crass, apathy and cynicism

Mediaprofiles

I love this idea because I want to drum up some feedback for my engine from RMNers who aren't regularly on IRC (ie the vast majority) and since it's not a game I can't make a game profile for it and the SS topic is no more and I want to be accommodated waahhhh D:!

Your Most Disappointing Game?

lots, but most "recent" crushing disappointment: Call of Juarez (I have the feeling I should have known better so lemme preemptively say: shush)

Played the demo, ran around in the Old Tejas West with a Bible in one hand and a revolver in the other, reciting verses of condemnation, conviction and forgiveness as I blasted people in the face. I thought, "yessssss"

Then I get the full game and it's a roaring suckfest of repetitive, tepid shootouts, amazingly clunky and frustrating FPS "platforming", and one or two twitch-based bonus sequences that you would probably only get on your second playthrough and there is no way in heck I'm playing through that poo poo again. Also the ending sequence. Boooooooooooo. Spoiler: you're Billy Candle, and you're done running. If someone doesn't like it they can apparently go to hell. *cut to black*

stealth bits weren't terrible though.

Talk talk during battles

Fallout 1/2 did this too and it honestly it added a TON of interest and hilarity to the combat for not-so-much effort on the part of the developers/writers. Simple little floating captions over the fighting NPCs' heads like "Shee-it, you suck" or "Ever seen what one of these babies does to soft tissue?" or "We be doin de bad hurt dance" or whatever made a huge difference and spiced the combat up a great deal.

Simply put I think you should totally do it.

Culture of crass, apathy and cynicism

"why fix what isn't broken"

this is more or less what i am driving at by trying to highlight how different people use the existing site/community in different ways, not that RMN isn't going to change and improve over time but that a drastic change right now might not be necessary or even necessarily fix anything. I feel way too new here to say that with any confidence though so take it with a grain of salt please :D

A Day in the Life

Well Craze I'm starting to realize that my thing with The Sims 3 is that I have mainly watched people do a terrible job of playing it, either just having a hard time with the simulation itself (probably due to a poor grasp of how real life works much like someone who has never flown before crashing repeatedly during a flight sim) or doing dumb things like making tons of almost-naked old people who run around with 500lbs of rotten fish and dairy in their pockets screaming at children and stealing their parents' flatware for hours, sometimes days after it has gotten old. The Sims (1) actually helped me kill a lot of time during those slow nights at my high school job and I thoroughly liked the concept, although I really wished it had more depth. Your particular Sims 3 setup sounds like exactly what I wanted in that regard. So yeah, u hav opend my eyes more pics pls.

What was the last thing you bought at the time of your reading this?

pork chops. family coming over for dinner, housemates cooked the last of my our food

dog biscuit test a resounding failure, test subjects indiscriminately inhaled biscuits of all flavors and types, test results inconclusive.

Culture of crass, apathy and cynicism

I don't necessarily agree with his opinions, but Craze and I both take our gam-make-em-ups very seriously and RMN fulfills our needs to that end even though we both use the site/community in completely different ways, pointing this out because it sorta supports and expands on what I was rambling about earlier in the thread :O!!!

addendum: as someone who plays but does not make RM games, I think it's worth mentioning that the differences between games made in 2k/3 and XP/VX aren't as vast to the uneducated end-user as you might think. Sure, I can totally understand how one is more painful to use for the game's author than the other, but discriminating against the end product comes off as snobbery more than anything. END ADDENDUM(B)

this part removed in hindsight out of respect for kentona's probable dislike of crassness in his "crassness sucks" thread :p don't worry kids i am still an utterly repugnant human being

:toot:

A Day in the Life

Craze you actually make The Sims look fun. Maybe it's the way you present it. Maybe I just don't have the imagination required to make my own fun in it like you do. Maybe I should kill myself.

fake edit: Maybe I'm already dead.

A Day in the Life

these toys have sure come a long way from Barbie's Dream House

What are you thinking about right now?
