I understand that from an aesthetic standpoint, we're supposed to cut original graphic artists a break and appreciate their work because it's original, but someone else, especially someone new to the scene, isn't going to feel obligated to go 'Aww, how cute *pats original graphics on the head* I'll give this a playthrough'.

By the way I disagree with this. I don't believe in lowering standards because graphics are original.

This is not a graphics thread and I do not want it to be one but I agree with Azn. This might not be your intention Feld, but the way you phrase this makes it look like you think that people who prefer original art over rips can only do so in a condescending manner just because the rips tend to be of professionally made graphics and thus of a higher quality. The reason I'll take custom graphics, even bad ones, over rips every time is because out of the context of the original game, rips have almost no appeal for me and do not engage me or provide a new visual experience with which to uniquely relate to the game setting, which is super important! The same thing applies to music. While it's not everything in a game, recycling old material I've already seen in instead of trying to offer something I haven't only gives me fewer reasons to want to play a game.

Of course, the friend in question looks like an 8-year-old girl, so his apparent masculinity complex is somewhat merited. But it doesn't make him less of a prissy little bitch.

you need to be an understanding but firm mentor figure, say "I'm really sorry about the mix-up with you getting a wiener and everything, but now that it's there you should at least try to act like you have one"
