I don't know about you all, but a Female Squall for FF8 would have been cool.

Also, let's face it. Often times videogame characters are not exactly dressed for battle, so the arguments about not exposing certain parts of the body are a bit moot. It creates a bit of a disconnect, I suppose, but you just have to adjust your suspension of disbelief... Otherwise, all characters would have to use full body armor, and the helmets would ruin their pretty animu hairdos. =P

I agree that, since we're not going for complete reality in games, we shouldn't have to worry about having everyone look 100% battle-ready. I do disagree, however, that this makes the point moot. Who a character is and what the players think about him/her is, for better or worse, going to be connected to what they wear.

A lot of a game is getting invested in the roles. Making a serious game but making a character's outfit too outlandish hurts investment, just as many are probably put off with Vaan's outfit, as an example from earlier in the thread. And although it's improving, it's still really rare to get a badass female character who's not also showing cleavage and whatever else for the sex appeal factor.

From the female perspective, there are plenty of people who want awesome characters who's outfits don't scream "despite my personality, my body's totally here and exposed for your viewing pleasure, heterosexual male audience."

Ugh. See, this is why we can't have badass female roles - men like to make them wear ridiculous clothing.

Not to mention that you can seriously undermine a character's personality that way. If you have a flirty character and they dress to show off their body a bit, that's one thing, but so many creators take a female character who's a no-nonsense, badass lady warrior, and still have her breasts and legs all bare and exposed, and, for me at least, it causes a serious disconnect when their outfit seems to completely go against their character.

I got a lil` bit nervous at the battle formulae. Battles become crippingly easy with a few stat boosts. @_@ this is making me crazy. It`s meant to be hard, but it`s a bit harder than what I wanted at level 1, and once you overlevel a little it becomes ridiculously easy.

I don't think it being hard at the start is a bad thing if people are expecting that, because fighting against the odds in a dungeon crawler can be a lot of fun. But becoming too powerful too quickly, yeah, that could def. be a problem.

As a matter of fact, the game throws you at the town pretty much the same way that Diablo 1 did - even the town layout is plainly stolen from that. That`s because I really didn't really wanna bother coming up with a decent town and stories. I shall adress that in future releases.

Now that you mention it, you're right. That sort of thing really isn't uncommon in this sort of game. I just found myself saying "I wanna know who these characters are and what they're like." But I'm a sucker for character-focused games, and a dungeon crawler usually isn't that, so it was more a bias on my part than a good critique, in retrospect ^^;;

Actually you can - only magic, though. Skills use TP, and they're battle-only thanks to that.

Oh, whoops! Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate your thoughts, and now it made me think on reworking carolyne instead of moving quickly to a proper full fledged DC. Hmm. Thankies! ~ <3

You're very welcome! :D I've subscribed and will be following this game. Whether you want to rework this before you move on to something else is, of course, something you'll have to decide, but I'd honestly be happy playing either, so I think you should do what you find most interesting ^_^

How the Heck do you Design a Town?

Towns are the banes of rpgs

Given that they're pretty common, I'm curious about what's wrong with them. Is it just because they don't really offer anything, gameplay-wise?

That makes me think - What is a good alternative to towns? Having no towns but traveling merchants that you run into that sell you stuff? Or maybe no merchants and you make all your own stuff via a crafting system. The inn is easy enough to replicate with a healing tile or something similar.

Very nice :D

An interesting game. Here are my thoughts.

-The dungeon crawling part is great, with the map and the roaming monsters that move when you move.

-I like being able to customize my skillsets and the different "races" who use different items to do that is a cool idea.

-Like you said, it's a bit hard. But I can't say that's really a negative as it's a dungeon crawler, after all.

-It seems completely devoid of story, aside from the townspeople's gossip. I didn't expect much of one since it was made in two days, but it def. feels weird to just be put into the game without any introduction of who these people are and what's going on.

-The characters' personal info in the status screen doesn't seem to match who they are.

-I can't seem to use healing moves from the menu, which is frustrating.

-There are a lot of text boxes and equipment descriptions where the text gets cut off.

Overall, I'm interested. I'll definitely check it out when you make a full-fledged dungeon crawler, because there are a lot of great ideas here.

A very quickly done classroom that still needs it's final touches. (Better tile shading, more details, lighting effects etc.) I kinda like it, though.

I like it. Good job! :D

Though I am curious about one thing. The potted plant has a thicker lineweight than everything else. Makes it look a little different than everything else.

Thanks a lot! :D

Okiku, Star Apprentice

I think it's a cool idea. Maybe the wand can, in story, detect treasure and retrieves it instead of blasting it?

Okiku, Star Apprentice

Yeah, she doesn't really need in-battle items, necessarily. Or they could be really rare. Whatever you think works. ^_^
