Description

What're We Cooking?

A full game cooked up in two weeks (and a weekend)! The cookoff begins on February 1st and wraps up on February 17th where all games must be submitted before the end of the day. Check the event page (and your account's timezone) to see when the event ends in your local time.

The Kitchen Suite

The tool of choice is RPG Maker VX Ace Lite! It is the free but feature limited version of RPG Maker VX Ace. The restrictions of Ace Lite are as follows:

Maximum Database Entries
  • 10 Actors
  • 10 Classes
  • 126 Skills
  • 16 Items
  • 60 Weapons
  • 60 Armors
  • 30 Enemies
  • 30 Troops
  • 25 States
  • 110 Animations
  • 4 Tilesets
  • 10 Common events
  • 100 Switches
  • 100 Variables
  • There are no other database restrictions

Map & Event Limitations
  • 20 Maps
  • 10 Events per map
  • Call Common Event is disabled

Script Limitations
  • The script editor is disabled.
  • The 'Script' event command is disabled. Other script commands in Assign Variable, Condition Branch, and Move Event are still enabled.

These are strictly implementation restrictions that you are free to work around. Need more than sixteen items? Make your key items weapons nobody can equip! Want more than ten playable characters? Perhaps when one leaves the party you could overwrite its name and stats with your new character! Twenty five troops too limiting? Make a troop that adds random enemies via battle events!

Please note: While it is possible to add your own scripts to a game through devious means the spirit of the Ace Lite restriction rules in this contest. Injecting scripts is not allowed beyond using the enabled script calls for their intended purposes. Of course changing the database caps through other means is also right out. Any game found violating these restrictions will be disqualified.

You can download RPG Maker VX Ace Lite here.

If you want to see what you can do under such restrictions Deckiller has made a game in Ace Lite called Kolmesarta. Feel free to check it out!

Your Ingredients!

Everything in the kitchen is allowed! There is no theme to the cook off besides obeying the restrictions of Ace Lite. There are no resource limitations for this contest as Ace Lite does not restrict what you can import into your game. Whip out the spice rack! Prepare the vegetables! Go hog wild! It's a free for all!

Nobody wants a half baked morsel though. The only requirement beyond using RPG Maker VX Ace Lite is that the game must be complete. Only finished games are wanted here!

For the Tastiest of Them All

We've got four judges reuniting to sample the delicacies of all participants: The RTP Princess Liberty, The Amazing Artist Nessiah, the Makerscore Master Deckiller, and the Ludicrously Lazy GreatRedSpirit! Their number one game will received a boxed copy of RPG Maker VX Ace generously donated by Liberty! The lead developer of the winning game will be contacted by Liberty to make shipping arrangements.

That isn't the only prize though! After submissions are closed there will also be a two week voting phase for all members of RMN to vote for their favorite game! Voting will be open from February 18th to March 11th. The winner will receive their choice of any item excluding RPG Maker VX Ace from the RPGMakerWeb.com store courtesy of RPGMakerWeb!

There is always the achievement badge for participating too! One of a kind will not be made available again! Submit to that completionist tingle and take part!

I wonder....who did end up being the one person that voted for Doggie Dayz?
Just so you guys know, I've reached the 10 vid limit for Seamus, finished Witch World and have only Dragons Descendants, Illusions of Loyalty, Subterranean Star-field and Reaper to finish.

Oh, by the way, for some reason I didn't have Reaper downloaded. Can someone remind me if it got disqualified or something? IIRC it may have been started before the contest, thus no longer be eligible, but I'm having trouble finding a post in the last 40 pages that supports that or not. >.<;

I was pretty sure that was the case, though. (I may be thinking of a previous event, though.) Anyone recall?
I don't think I saw anything to that effect, Liberty. *shrug*

Sub starfield:
DAT MONEY CHARM! :D I LOVE IT! Now I can start getting my whole party's gear up to scratch for that nasty tree! :D

EDIT: HAH! CHOKE ON THAT, FIRST BOSS! YOU JUST GOT FED INTO A WOOD CHIPPER!
>: D

Oh, and BTW, if you get down to the last episode for my game and have not beaten the final boss and want to get to the end, by all means feel free chuck an "abort battle" thing into the final boss. I'd hate for you to miss out on the ending because you ran out of videos. :P
I don't recall reading about it being disqualified, it even got on the popular vote thingy as well so I don't think it was (or is that irrelevant to this part? =P)
tried to have a look on previous ones and couldn't find anything, sorry =s
I must have had it mixed up with another game at another event. ^.^;

I just rechecked again and nothing, so all clear~
Second boss from Starfield taken down. Needed about 3 resets to make it through with no deaths. :D

I like this game. A lot of the mechanics feel REALLY well thought out.

I already know how the Let's judge for Seamus will turn out x.x

XD She might find it refreshing. I mean, she's fresh off a ragequit, so unless your battles are super hard and bordering on unfair as well, she might take it as a nice break.

Oh, and please don't take my rage quit in the next video hard. It was just really frustrating at the time that I'd gotten Singing Bitch down a lot of health only to have it heal it all, then finally defeated one of it's friends... only to have them revived. >.<;

(how did I miss this?)

I hate to say it, but I was having trouble deciding whether I should feel really bad for making you rage quit...Or if I should giggle evilly at you predicting the revive mechanic and then the moment of silence before the "!@#$ THIS!" as the mechanic kicked in. XD

But between that and talking to a buddy, I'll be including in game hints on the easier modes now.

Oh, and I'm calling it right now, if you decide to take on the last boss without nerfing it (especially considering that you skip a lot of battles and thus might be underleveled when you face it)...You're probably not going to like it either. I did something VERY mean with it. And as soon as I figure out a way to allow for TWO triggers for an enemy skill use rather than one, I'll be disabling that move on everything but the hardest mode. *evil chuckle*

EDIT: You are gonna like his music, though. I mean, you'd better. That song is really good.
I might not even make it that far, though. I have to defeat the Singer first, and then pass whatever is beyond it with-in three videos. I'll try to get there, though, just for the lols.

Assuming you kill singing green in your next video and start on the final dungeon you should make it.

Video 8: Beat Singing green and start next dungeon
Video 9: Make it to boss and likely definitely die horribly and ragequit again. XD
Video 10: Beat haxxed final boss and see ending(s)

Unless either of the bosses can't be beaten even after you nerf it. XD

No, I haven't. I wanted to, recently, but the download page was broken for some reason.

EDIT: Upon further investigation, the download seems to have been removed entirely. Probably so you can fix your issues.

The same is happening to me, I can't even see the download and description page for Seamus for some reason.

Guys I think there is a sort of prize lucky draw sort of thing going on, Rpg Maker Web is doing it everyday until Friday it seems, have a look if you didn't yet ;)
Ahh...finally all my exams are over and I'm on break. ^^ Now I'll have more time to work on improving my game, and preparing for the second game.

And on that note, I have a question.
Those of you who played my game (Illusions of Loyalty), I would really like it if you could PM me (private message) about what you liked about the story. Don't post it in this thread, that'll just hijack and derail it.

See, I was thinking about the story I was making for the next game (same world, different main characters), and I realized it felt WAY too different. So I'm looking to see what people liked in the first story, and I'll work to its strengths.

Oh, and...
Rhyme, that FREAKING last boss in Starfield....AAAAAARGH, so hard... Why did you make it so I can't use the second boss's item to buff myself up for it?! XD

I admit that I miiiiiiiiiiiiiight have gone a bit overboard with that--
haha
Make sure everyone has extra step accessory 8D
So umm...What's everyone been up to? xD

Really nice games coming out recently =)
I've only got to upload the videos I have. So, basically, I've finished judging. Now GRS and I have to talk it out but due to our timezones, it's a little difficult. We're probably gonna aim for an official announcement during the podcast.
Oh cool, good work ^^ maybe you can get some rest now from all the work =P

Edit: when do these podcasts usually happen btw? I'm quite interested in knowing more about them.

Apologies if I'm asking something I should know by now lol, maybe I can get away by saying that I am from foreign lands? =)
