Description

Friday the 13th is coming up and it coincides with the date of the next Release Something! Day! Talk about a coincidence!

So, some of you might not know what a Release Something! Day (RS!D) is. Basically, it's a day where you release something - anything! - in order to get feedback from the community. Release Something! Day used to be a regularly occurring event in the days of yore, back when the community had a sticky issue of never releasing any games or demos (because perfectionists I guess?). RS!D was created as a way to encourage sharing, collaboration, feedback, and content in the community. The aim is to truly try to capture the spirit of releasing something. It is not about prepping a major release, or making something in a fury to have something new to show for the event. It is about showing your works-in-progress, getting feedback, and checking out what other people are working on. Like a snapshot of RMN's development community.

What kinds of things can be shown? Music, tiles, sprites, graphics of any type, gameplay (videos of gameplay tests are good), tech demos, demos - even completed games (but don't strive for a finished product; that's not the point of RS!D). Let the feedback work for you. Although, there are some limitations to RMN's event profile - only game downloads can be submitted to the "official" event submission. But that's okay! I will manually compile all of the other types of submissions and update the event page.

So, some of you might not know what a Release Something! Day (RS!D) is. Basically, it's a day where you release something - anything! - in order to get feedback from the community. There will even be a podcast covering the releases.

1. If you are posting a game demo or download, make a Gameprofile (if you haven't already), upload the file, and submit the download to this event (by clicking the Submit button in the upper left)
2. If you are posting other media (like screenshots or music or graphics or videos) submit it to the site like normal and then post a link to it in the comments

There will be a badge worth 10 MS for releasing something. Best feedback givers will also get a badge worth 20 MS. Because the feedback is what counts this time.

There might even be a podcast!

Now I don't know if you're talking about the user or the game engine whenever you say Unity.

I'm talking about the actual user: Unity. He/she was helping me with some battle charsets but due to real life circumstances, I couldn't respond back in time to comment on the latest round of charsets he/she sent me, so they felt I lost interest. (which wasn't true, i was moving jobs and location of my entire family, so this had to take a seat on the backburner) But Unity up and moved on and got embroiled in a ton of other projects to the point he/she can't help me anymore. Now I'm looking for someone to continue where he/she left off. Or if Unity can whip those last three up.
Kentona... >.<;

We deliberately scheduled it for Friday 13th because Friday 13th/RS!D #13...

you doofus XDDD

(that said, the page and banner are all kinds of pretty so... :D )

ive got two info bites

expect something probably broken but definitely playable.
I was thinking that there aren't many things with XIII in it for RS!D XIII, and it was the return of Release Something, so Release Something XIII: Something Returns was conceived.

And then on the 6th I was like "herp fucking derp FRIDAY THE 13TH WHY THE FUCK ISN'T IT ALL JASON AND CHAINSAWS" but I was already committed (as the night before I made the banners and whatnot, and I don't have photoshop at work to make new ones on my last minute realization).

OH WELL. opportunity missed.

(and I am pretty proud of my banner on the event page here tho)
Might make a thread dedicated to just feedback. That way peeps can just hidetag away for each submission and actually discuss.

Quick question, where is feedback supplied, on this thread or via any possible gamepages that go up as a result?

Well, I may not release any actual demo since it'd basically be one huge empty world to explore with no NPCs of note or quest events to follow, but there would be plenty of enemies to find and defeat! But I think I'll rather go the route with Amulet of Fate by posting a video with what I have completed, show off everything and then tell players what's left to finish. I think that's a good compromise.

If Unity would come back and finish the remaining three battle charsets for my monster sprites/PCs for the Arena, we could be a team. :D
ok. i've already learned how to release something.
now I need to learn how to release something good.

I'm going to release something for this. I'll try!
It's just Bank Gothic iirc
I might as well toy with these Lightning Returns custom systems I started doing a bit ago; would go just brilliant with the banner. xD
Also, what is the font's name you use for "SOMETHING RETURNS" in the logo?

I'm gonna release something too!
It’s not this, is it?

Anyways, I’ve been thinking about this for a while and if it was really the right time or not to show anything about this said game, or even talk about it, considering I originally wanted to wait until around April or June before dropping this massive bombshell on everyone again – but I think it’s about time to finally showcase something on it, considering this game will finally be patched up and completely done sometime this year, and I’ve been working on this since late 2013 and I haven’t really said too much about it since this time, and it never really hurts to at least get a little feedback on it in the meantime. I mean, it’s been so unbelievably long since I’ve last shown a screenshot for anything, and I really got to get over what happened with this game all those years ago. I mean, it should be all ancient history now.

So yeah, I’m in. I’ll probably release a screenshot and maybe something else as well. A game page would be nice, but I’d like to at least keep to the script and make one in April to around June so I got enough stuff to stall talk enough until it's done. I do have enough materials to make one at this time, but it’s probably best to wait a little longer.

But I’m happy to see the Release Something Day event finally return after a two year hiatus since the last one. Now, unlike the previous years – I can actually enter this one for realises this time! Yay!

Monopolo?
O shit, I am going to have a busy week (next week).

Still, this event coincides with me reconsidering my old project (or did you guys read my mind?); so I am gonna try to release something for the HYPE TRAIN. Maybe.
I'll hopefully be releasing some graphical stuff and also announcing an as of now seeecret collaboration project with somebody on RMN. Exciting!

Great excuse to get to grips with Unity.

Huzzah!

IIRC, the last Release Something! was when I put out the Lily prototype... I jammed like hell to get it done in time, I'm really hoping I can do the same with this one :)

I'm pretty sure I could get some screenshots in a week.
