Description

Friday the 13th is coming up and it coincides with the date of the next Release Something! Day! Talk about a coincidence!

So, some of you might not know what a Release Something! Day (RS!D) is. Basically, it's a day where you release something - anything! - in order to get feedback from the community. Release Something! Day used to be a regularly occurring event in the days of yore, back when the community had a sticky issue of never releasing any games or demos (because perfectionists I guess?). RS!D was created as a way to encourage sharing, collaboration, feedback, and content in the community. The aim is to truly try to capture the spirit of releasing something. It is not about prepping a major release, or making something in a fury to have something new to show for the event. It is about showing your works-in-progress, getting feedback, and checking out what other people are working on. Like a snapshot of RMN's development community.

What kinds of things can be shown? Music, tiles, sprites, graphics of any type, gameplay (videos of gameplay tests are good), tech demos, demos - even completed games (but don't strive for a finished product; that's not the point of RS!D). Let the feedback work for you. Although, there are some limitations to RMN's event profile - only game downloads can be submitted to the "official" event submission. But that's okay! I will manually compile all of the other types of submissions and update the event page.

So, some of you might not know what a Release Something! Day (RS!D) is. Basically, it's a day where you release something - anything! - in order to get feedback from the community. There will even be a podcast covering the releases.

1. If you are posting a game demo or download, make a Gameprofile (if you haven't already), upload the file, and submit the download to this event (by clicking the Submit button in the upper left)
2. If you are posting other media (like screenshots or music or graphics or videos) submit it to the site like normal and then post a link to it in the comments

There will be a badge worth 10 MS for releasing something. Best feedback givers will also get a badge worth 20 MS. Because the feedback is what counts this time.

There might even be a podcast!

I'm gonna release something too!

It’s not this, is it?

Anyways, I’ve been thinking about this for a while and if it was really the right time or not to show anything about this said game, or even talk about it, considering I originally wanted to wait until around April or June before dropping this massive bombshell on everyone again – but I think it’s about time to finally showcase something on it, considering this game will finally be patched up and completely done sometime this year, and I’ve been working on this since late 2013 and I haven’t really said too much about it since this time, and it never really hurts to at least get a little feedback on it in the meantime. I mean, it’s been so unbelievably long since I’ve last shown a screenshot for anything, and I really got to get over what happened with this game all those years ago. I mean, it should be all ancient history now.

So yeah, I’m in. I’ll probably release a screenshot and maybe something else as well. A game page would be nice, but I’d like to at least keep to the script and make one in April to around June so I got enough stuff to stall talk enough until it's done. I do have enough materials to make one at this time, but it’s probably best to wait a little longer.

But I’m happy to see the Release Something Day event finally return after a two year hiatus since the last one. Now, unlike the previous years – I can actually enter this one for realises this time! Yay!
:creepy kid: Seven Days.

Also, anyone get the reference (Unicorns vs Narwhals, I mean)?
Post your 'something' here on the day. And no, it doesn't matter what it is.
it starts in 6 days give or take
 Signed up (due to time difference) 4 minutes before the day ends according to this time.
I didn't sign up just because I already make releases semi-regularly OR DID I
Well, I suppose there's a non-zero chance I might actually start sequencing a music track rather than just bashing parts of it out on the keyboard every now and then for shits and giggles. Does it count if its not really intended for any game project I'm working on? I've been thinking on and off about doing a sort of public-use music pack to try and shake the composing rust off, but haven't felt the urge to really start it.

Also, do we submit everything on the 13th, or is that when the judging happens, and so we submit beforehand?
Okay, I'm gonna update my game, and come up with something cool.

Maybe I'll update some battle mechanics. I just found out about this so it's gonna be tight.

My first upload is just to submit the game, ignore that one.

Oh right. Your time is 11:56. Great, I'll just update it on my own time.
Just remember - it does not have to be a game. Too many games will probably send the podcast back in the timeline due to having to play them all. ANYTHING will do - screenshots, music, video, etc. Working on custom tiles you want feedback for? Sprites? Anything like that? This is the perfect event for ya!

But hey! Fun, fun, fun! I'm gonna release something too!

Well, I know Ebeth is in FINALS HELL, and won't be able to do anything with Myriad Cypher until after this event concludes. Glasses and Jeroen... I should probably try to contact them, and see if their schedules align with this.

Konae's Investigations would then be my back-up plan if Myriad Cypher is a no-go.

I'm gonna work on Chapter 2 of Tales from Zilmurik and release a progress report on the 13th.
Ooo, a week to prepare a tech demo? I think I can manage! ;)

I'm finally able to work on my project back in 2013 (it was on hiatus), can I still submit my project? (demo)

Yeah! Myriad Cypher isn't done, right, so you still have plenty to release for that!

If this were a bit earlier, I might have been able to stave off Legacy Reborn for this. As it stands, I guess I could aim for Konae's Investigations.

Which is the game I submitted for the 2013's Release Something? Darigaaz, that's just plain sickening.

*Edit: Wait a sec. Myraid Cypher?

Coolio,
I have something something. Time to make some gamepages.

Can be an event released (like unofficial event)?

I was wondering, did 2013's Release Something entries ever get judged or anything? The achievements/badges were never given out either, if I remember right. That doesn't really motivate me to participate in this one, even if I somehow had enough time to figure out how to get Catharsis out of a completely unplayable state before the deadline, haha.
hahah fuck! Really?

Well, I am running this one so you can be rest assured that I will be doling out the achievements in a timely manner like I always do for my events. I've got a pretty good track record for that.

This is perfect, I am waaaaay overdue on my Holmes vs Moriarty Issue 2 work.
I'll try to finish the second story by the 13th and post it as an Article. That work?

That's totally a something!
