Just a question: I didn't play all those games and I think I won't be neutral if I did only vote for those I played. Is that fine if I'm voting regarding what the game page says, or is it possible to vote only for some awards and not others?
Yup! That's what I do since I haven't played like 99% of games.
Also, I don't come often to read this topic, but I guess the best event game could have had a good match with Cuties & Clues. There are probably others (I didn't play), but this one works well independently of its event. Sorry I didn't mention it earlier.
Nomination period's over, sadly.
author=Darkenauthor=unityBeen meaning to, I'll let you know what I think.
Did you get a chance to look at Weird and Unfortunate, Darken? I'd love to hear what you thought if you did so.
Thank you so much, I really respect your opinion as a dev :DDDD

Hello,
I'm voting (thanks to the one who helped me find the poll!), it wasn't that obvious.

I think it's pretty common to vote even tho very few people have played all games, tho I'd be interested in hearing what other people think.
As for Cuties and Clues for the Best Event Game, I feel like it definitely deserves to be a contender in that category. In fact, looking at what showed up eligible on the final vote, I feel like we've failed a little. I enjoyed reading this topic and even thought "yeah, so-and-so game deserves to be on the list" but, and this is critical, I didn't go nominate them and assumed it was a given that other people would.
This was really stupid of me, but it seems to be common; I think a lot of us did this. I wonder if it'd be possible to have admins add games they believe should have been nominated if there's a lot of consensus about their quality (praise on this thread, positive reviews, generally-well received, etc), especially if a category gets only one game nominated.
I don't feel like this would break anything or be unfair, because the voting would still determine the winner, it would just expand the options for voting.
Ok, it's done then ^^
This is kind of sad since the list obviously missed some games in some departments. I had some hard times for some awards, since playing a game is (for example) better to appreciate its humor or puzzles.
Don't cry, but in Most promising demos, you put Exile's Journey, but I think it's finished.
Good luck on all games!

If nobody played it how would they know to vote for it
Well, it's more about a game that's criminally underlooked. A game that makes the few people that do play it ask, "Why is nobody playing this? This is awesome!" That's the kind of thing I'm thinking about. Though, I guess a game like that might not have the exposure needed to garner nominations in the first place. WELP.

The "Best Game Profile" award is literally about the gamepage, itself, and would not require you to play said game. Most other awards do require at least some familiarity with the title so say one way or another.
The nomination period has ended, so, your mention of Cuities and Clues is a little late! I'm still surprised that only one game even managed to get nominated for "Best Event Game", and even then, it was barely able to get it's nominations!
*Edit: Exile's Journey may have a new download added in a demo period to present to players before it was marked as "complete". Or, I think it might be possible that the new download that constituted it's completion was added sometimes this year, but the fact that it had a demo at all also allowed it to be nominated for "Best Demo". I'm not actually sure if that's the case, but, I think I recall being able to nominate WaUTaH this year for "Best Demo", despite how the only download that was added was the final/complete builds of the game.
The system is not perfect, by any means. All we can really do is raise awareness of the loopholes, and to not fall into them, ourselves.

I agree with this 100%! the most important thing to do right now is to vote.
vote, vote, vote, vote, vote!
I don't want this to be a landslide this year, but honestly it could anyone's game at this point: New Eden and Stories from New Eden could sweep everything, which is kind of unfair. But, Weird and Unfortunate however can still win. BeetleNinja could still win. MoonSong could Still win, Therapist:Mind Manger could still win, a bunch of games could still win.
But it's really really important that you vote.
VOTE!

But it's really really important that you vote.
Absolutely. Maybe the thing you want to win won't, and maybe it never stood a chance. However, it will stand even less of a chance if you simply don't vote!
Also, allow me to remind the followers of this thread* of Liberty's promotion for that extra incentive, should one so desire it.
*This is probably my most successful thread in this particular regard! Thanks for following/reading!
Grats, we just passed it! 906 at time of writing.
Edited the opening post with the list of contestants from this post, plus Liberty's promotion. Thanks, again, Liberty, for helping to promote the Misaos!

There was never a demo for Exile's Journey. I released the full game and then followed up with a bunch of patches. So, to those reading this, feel free to nominate Shadow Seeker or Soma Union instead. :)
Huh. So, a game can be nominated for "Best Demo" even if it never had a downloadable demo? Thanks for the heads-up, and honesty, dethmetal! It's loopholes like this that users should be made aware of.
*Edit: Actually, I'm starting to think that what happened in regards to Exile's Journey was that the upload finished, then the game's status to "complete". Like, I'm looking at the time-stamp of when the download for Exile's Journey was done. It was almost 5AM GMT on January 1st. It seems reasonable to me to not flag the game as "complete" (or publish the follow-up blog) until after the upload was done. Perhaps the window where it would be considered a "demo" was mere seconds, but, apparently, that might have been enough?

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Well, personally, I don't actually think people should vote on any category where they haven't played every game. Voting blindly is WAY worse than not voting.
author=LordBlueRouge
:O as of this writing we just got 1000 votes.
2017 Had 1162 votes. It's still pretty early in the season (as it were), so, we might just be able to hit that!
Just played Shadow Seeker demo by KoopaKush and it was pretty incredible!
I’m gonna play and stream some other games too from this list. <3

Now THAT'S the sign of a successful Misaos!
We're about halfway through the month, and the vote-count currently stands at 1063 as of this writing. Voting seems to have died down a little, but, we might see another 50-100 between here and when it ends. I'm really interesting in the Game of the Year. I personally would like to see Weird and Unfortunate Things are Happening to win, but, I feel there's definitely contention between New Eden and Exile's Journey.
As something of an aside, LordBlueRouge had a nomination-count at 412 before the nomination period ended. I don't know if that was the exact final number, but, still, that's definitely over double the number of nominations, and likely double the number of users actually voting!

I honestly love years like this where there's no clear sweeper. It gets people to try out and discuss a variety of games and it keeps us all guessing.
There is a tie between New Eden and Exile's Journey in raw number of categories nominated. If the nominations, themselves, are anything to go by, they are in the top three in 7 (or so) of those categories. I feel there could be a decent split here, but, I guess we'll see!
I've done a quick sweep of numbers and things are looking heated! No spoils, tho! ;p
A reminder that if you show me your votes ballot (or even part of - enough that I know you've voted) you can go into the running for a GAME OF YOUR CHOICE from my 400+ games list.
Games on there include quirky silly games, big-name games and all manner of games in-between, so there's bound to be something to catch your eye.
A note that any game that does not fit a specific category (for example, a game that is not a demo in a demo-only category) will be removed during the end of Misao round-up! So keep your votes relevant!
