Also, shameless self plug for Trash Planet. Though I am working on an update for the game which will be out in early to mid December, so I don't know how that factors into the timing for Misaos.

I had to double-check the gamepage for Trash Planet because, for some reason, I thought it was a commercial game. Turned out I was wrong.

But if we're going to do shameless self-plugs, I kinda wanna throwdown...

...Heaven's Gate for "Summoner of Sounds". With the game only having 61 downloads as of this writing, that doesn't feel particularly promising. That aside, since I structurally cannot nominate my own game, I placed my nomination for that on WaUTaH.

I mean there's a demo Misao...

And the thing about yearly awards is that even a meh thing can win if it's better than whatever else is available! :V

Aside from "Most Promising Demo", there is also a "Best Short Game" award. "Best Short Game" could coincide with "Best Event Game", as event-games tend to be shorter.
Well... I guess if shameless plugs are okay now, I released a demo for Soma Union, the sequel to Soma Spirits, earlier this year. It's probably an okay game.

I just wanna quickly chime in here: this is great! This is probably also, the only time where self promotion should be encouraged and permitted on RMN because the whole idea is to round a list of games representative of that year. So years from now, we should be able to go back to this thread/the winners thread and see all the highlight's of that particular year.

Last year it was impossible for me to get every single game mentioned for 2019. So when someone wanted to self promote their game, it helped me a lot because it ultimately meant less work for me - But obviously, games that already have reviews and comments will fair better than ones that are self promoted ones, simply because there's more info and that info's been verified - Maybe one day when RMN is popular and has a steady flow of traffic again, we won't have to resort to these methods, but for now, because things aren't automated - this is the fastest way to get an idea of what games were released this year on RMN.(sort of similar to the fill in the blanks thread kentona use to do)

So if you have a game that hasn't been reviewed or commented on that's been released this year that you want us to check out; speak up now! Things move so fast/slow here on RMN, this is probably gonna be the only time, we're gonna even know about it this year.

But yeah, keep up the good work guys. This is great! :thumbs up:

Agent Ape is on board, so it probably is worth an audio nomination too!
I’m glad I helped open the shameless self promotion Pandora’s Box.
Ok, since it's now encouraged to recommend your own games, let's do this :P Glad Luke Daimont was already recommended, honestly, that's already much more than I expected :D Anyway, without further ado:

Luke Daimont: Absolute Mayhem

A SHMUP platformer made in a week for the Trials of MZ event. Got to second place, well, sort of? Got voted to the top 3 and only got 2 points less than Game with no Name, largely because Liberty didn't score my sidescrolling level graphics that high (which is perfectly understandable :P). Got the best score in Engagement though! Also added a bunch of improvements since the original event version, like a slightly better boss fight and collision detection.

Amarok's Howl

Made for the Kill the Cutie event, in about two weeks after I abandoned my previous project. The most notable thing about it is probably that Sedna legend, which caused quite a reaction during the event stream. The game is sorta based on Inuit mythology. The basic gameplay is that you need to rescue 11 people, who are located around the Campus and their exact locations are random. You also need to sneak around and run from monsters, who patrol the maps without having a rigid patrol route and can detect you more easily if you are dashing or moving. Improved it a bit since the event version, adding a few enemy types that would make it more dynamic.

Now, to recommend a few games made by others that weren't discussed yet:

Feed Your Pet

A candidate for that hedgehog category.

Scar of Shadows

For the demo category. The combat is really fun.

Cuties & Clues

I think this also deserves to be highlighted.
I wish I got to play more (or any) RPGM games this year... and thanks to those of you who played Shooty and the Catfish! I don't know if it got any nominations this year but if so then thank you! Was funny that it did really well over on itch.io but didn't really get any traction here. Ah well, maybe next project!

I'm happy to hear this thread has the approval of LordBlueRouge. And don't worry about shameless self-promotions! Hell, I was doing it post 3!

*Edit: I kinda want to see a game mentioned twice before updating the list in the OP. Mostly because that's the minimum number of nominations a game needs to have before it can be voted on during the voting phase. Which I think means Soma Union gets added, as well as Shooty and the Catfish? I don't have the time to double-check right this moment, but, I will try to go over this thread either later today, or sometime tomorrow.

To jump in on the shameless plug train, Christmas Card is probably coming out sometime in december as well, given I manage to finish on time.

I second Exile’s Journey and would like to mention that I also released a nifty little demo this year: Daliah's Cave Quest Demo

Woah, that's my very first shameless plug! I feel so dirty :D

Okay, I think I've complied a short-list of games that could use another mention that aren't already on the OP listing. Note that I'll be adding Exile's Journey shortly after this post. Let me know if I messed up otherwise.

Skydancer
Two Strangers Survive the Zombie Apocalypse
Labyrinth: Derelict Abyss
Sa Ilalim ng Gabi
Throne
Relqiquia the Prototype
Saga Crew and the Spire of Mana
Matchmaker Carol
Arcomage Ace
Toothy and the Fantastic Sandwich
Trash Planet
Heaven's Gate
Amarok's Howl
Feed Your Pet
Scar of Shadows
Cuties & Clues
RMN Christmas Card 2020 (Currently running event! Please use the event page if you haven't signed up yet!)

*Edit: Good call. I'll add...

Daliah's Cave Quest Demo

...to the list of single-mentions too. ;)

Yeah❤! This is why self promo is important, we would've missed this gem entirely. Thank you for mentioning this iddalai. This looks great.

If things go as planned for 2021, I hope to start earlier like late October early November, so games like these that often get overlooked, will have exposure and a better chance at the misaos, near the end of the year.

I've released five games this year alone. Maybe they're worth a look for you.

The biggest game I finished this year is Port Traventor.

Then there are slightly smaller games that came afterwards: Alchemistress Vivi and Dragon Unleashed.

I also made two minigames that are part of my Jack Street series. 21 Jack Street and Jack Street Poker.

Looks like the short list of one-off mentions is becoming not-so-short! I will endeavor to continue to keep track of them as best I can.

In so doing, allow me to throw down...

...Heaven's Gate MZ. To be fair, I thought the Trials of MZ games were all really good, and I'm certainly more than biased here.

I'm sorry, but how aren't KO Cupid's demo, Age of Myth, Tales from Zilmurik and Heroic Tale VALUE! not on the list yet? :v

Nah, just messing with y'all. But really, those four games seem legit. KO Cupid was inspiring for me even from the demo. Age of Myth has got to be Piano's best game yet. It's a blast to see Tales from Zilmurik, Corf's fifteen-year-old labor of love, finally completed and on Steam. And the updated and expanded Heroic Tale feels like a real sleeper hit (and I still need to complete the new content ;-;).

Tales of Zilmurik, being a commercial game, would not be eligible for Misaos. If it was, I feel it would be a strong contender for "Not Dead Yet".

The other games you mention are fine suggestions! Would include them on the main list if I see another mention!
This thread has been great for helping me discover games I didn't even know about. I finished downloading quite a few that I am eager to try.
